I somehow doubt that when assessing potential draftees, your physical condition and medical history carries much weight with AFL recruiters

Hips are Hips mate. Load bearing.

And when they are damaged they do not work as well.

No doubt you are well versed in what happened to yours & what was the treatment & outcome

Can you just stop pretending you have the first clue about Toumpas injury & prognosis

Or at least change your name to Dr. WYL so we can all be sure of your expertise

put it this way BB, every team that passed up Ollie including GWS and the Bulldogs are seriously regretting it

he is easily the best player from that draft and imo better than O'meara

Seriously ???....better than O'meara.. 2013 Rising Star WINNER Got on the park for all of the two seasons v Dimitri just 18 games......well...just 18 games and nothing really to write home about.

Better ?? I'll differ with you on that one SPR

of course he is. And that is why Todd Viney should have known better. Sadly Todd has soured his name a little for me because of this. We had the inside info above all other clubs, but recruited a kid who had just had double hip surgery.

I had Physio for 10 years as a kid because my hips were shot.

I think that is why i am so bewildered by the decision.

It will be a miracle if Jimmy gets his pace back, his hips are damaged.

I had heard that Toumpas was drafted under the insistence of Neeld. It just wouldn't make sense for Todd to want Toumpas after seeing Wines up close for so long and being Jack's best mate etc.

No...but Dimitri's SHOULD have !!. It wasnt a state secret

no it doesn't at all i agree. The truth will surface one day.

But Todd was head of recruiting at the time.

I've never seen any evidence of this and I reckon it's a Demonland rumour that's only grown legs here .

People forget that Todd & Jack spent a fair few years in Adelaide. Toumpas would have been right under Todd's nose as well & I'd imagine Jack & Jimmy playd a fair bit of rep footy together

Hips are fine WYL but my back is stuffed & has been for a long time

However, that doesn't make me an expert nor does it give me any further insight into the decline of the likes of Jacka or G. Lyon due to back injuries

Mine yes. But I'm not so presumptuous to think I would have no idea about anyone else's though

Much like you & Jimmy's hips

So you think the club just ignored it ?

The knowledge of his hips was there. ( for anyone dilligent enough to discover)

Melbourne chose Toumpas.

Seems silly doesn't it.

Someone certainly didn't give it enough credence.

Ignored ? As good a word as any to describe the stupidity.

GTB...once your back's damaged its never the same. Goes for about 99% of backs, mine inclusive. Doesn't mean you cant do things but the upper level of ability drops a peg or two.

FFS BB, you're smarter than this

Do you truly believe the club wouldn't have had this fully assessed ? That they wouldn't have investigated the long term prognosis on the kid's condition ?

Heard from who? Me? The bloke at the pub? Viney? Jimmy?

Jeez, I was told by Eade's sister in law that he had the Adelaide job 24 hours before Collingwood announced him as 'The sorta Malthouse replacement'.

Quite possibly from Demonland - I'm not claiming it to be fact but it does seem to have some kind of conceivable validity if you look at the scenario.

It could quite possibly be one of the hundreds of urban myths that have sprouted around Neeld since well before the end of his tenure.

This is the era when facts are often scarce on the ground in cases when people want to sheet blame home on one individual.

I have a feeling that Jimmy will turn out to be a good player for us.

I remember a few years ago when plenty on Demonland wanted Nathan Jones traded.

Wonder what those posters think now?

You're the one making assumptions.

and they are ??

All ive put up are a couple of facts.

Toumpas medical history was/should have been known

and We picked him.

Remind me Red about the injuries Chunk had that took all the shine and polish off of him before he got started ??

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
