Nah not at all Rob, we could even write some software that just erases old posts after a certain timeframe as well to keep the space free.

People may complain about losing old (and in their minds) relevant posts but with sites the Internet Wayback Machine that have been archiving sites since the early 90's you can easily go back and find pretty much anything.

I'm an 'ologist but I enjoy both sites as they both provide topics and discussion that a both entertaining and provide food for thought.

Hopefully Ology will be back up and running soon so both sites can be the premier discussion sites for MFC supporters.

I know stuff all about software programs and such, but am happy to donate some $$ to getting the Demonology Site up and running if needed.

cheers

Some very funny thread titles appearing on 'Ology but alas ... site still catatonic.

Our very RobbieF has come in for whack ...

I've copped and given plenty of them on Ology nothing new there.

I think our mate Rollo predicted the demise of 'ology years back when general discussion was banished from the main board. It was the reason I think that 'ology was an edgier place and it' s been in decline for years since and more so with Tim being unable to run it.

I still find there is great (infrequent) discussion there so hopefully posters will be encouraged to come over if it does eventually die! I don't think the argy bargy there was any worse than what it can be here and it needs to be kept in perspective that these are forums for 'discussion' even if it's sometimes purile.

The 'argy bargy' is certainly worse - or was a while back; I haven't paid much attention lately - on Demonology if 'argy bargy' refers to playing the man and not the ball.

As for the admin/mods splitting off some topics into a general board, I don't think that had anything to do with Demonology dying; in fact, I reckon it made it better, because the footy topics were getting washed away by so much other stuff.

Conversely, I do reckon the moderation decision re: the Locker Room has made Demonland a poorer site than it was, though.

Thanks for the heads up; pretty amusing.

I like Picket Fence's 'post' the best.

Talking to Smithy yesterday and it appears that Tim doesn't want to hand over the reins; if he did the site could be resurrected and new members could join. I know nothing about IT but there must be hundreds of posters that no longer post and if they could be purged from the system then surely that would free up space; or is that too simple?

If tim can't keep up with it due to illness, why won't he give it up...we can promise to name the Footy Forum in his name as an honor. :D

I agree. At the very least he could hand over the ownership temporarily. I could help with the hosting and theres plenty of tech savvy lads to sort it out.

I get my sons to show me how the remote works for the (colour) tv. I can't provide tech support but would pay a subscription to get Demonology back up if necessary. Thanks to Tim, who I have met, for the enjoyment I have been afforded since 2005.

Also thankyou to the guys who run this forum, I should contribute here as well.

How do posters create new posts? Every time I open Demonology I get a list of topics but when you click on one you get the 'unobtainable' message. Do you need to be a computer whiz?

Agreed.

Always enjoyed both sites, though post more on 'ology. This year I check here less as just want one board for footy during season.

The site has tech problems. No-one can post except it seems a few members who can only post thread titles. That's it.

Also, I could be wrong but I seem to recall that the site's been unable to accept new members for several years owing to another, unrelated tech glitch.

Hatchman - I think Rollo is stuck in a cupboard in the Wayback Machine. No one's seen him for a while. Can you have a look?

Interesting that quite a few of us have made the leap and are posting here daily. It reminds me of the end of WCW, after it was bought out by the WWE. Most of the talent went to the new product - [censored] whats the alternative??

Of course TGR will be like Sting and will never be seen in the merged product.

Please don't mention "mergers" here. It's still a bit of a touchy subject.

I know TGR was banned from here in the past but it wasn't for anything serious like murder, so I don't see why he can't come back at least in the interim until we can get 'ology off and running again. I'm even prepared to cop an earful about why Terry Wallace should be the coach if it would help.

Hmmmm, seems to happen here quite a bit but perhaps not descending into quite the same level of vitriol. IMO there were posters on 'ology who should have been banned but were let run riot.

Even with the volume of posters here I find a lot of the topics go stale pretty quick and some should just be pushed off the front page straight away. Having everything in one spot is a way to keep it ticking over. Perhaps I'm lazy but I usually can't be bothered going on the locker room or general board here. Over at 'ology if a topic didn't interest me (footy or general) I just ignored it. Simply comes down to how each person uses it.

I doubt there's enough of his own posts for TGR to satisfactorily quote himself on here. His fingers must twitch over the keyboard when he reads the Morton threads though.

Indeed.

I don't think Demonology mods could ban people though; they technically couldn't enforce a ban because Tim decided to reinvent the wheel, write his own forum software and then suffer circumstances where he wasn't able to finish it. I remember blokes being asked not to post. As expected, that wasn't always particularly effective.

Even with the volume of posters here I find a lot of the topics go stale pretty quick and some should just be pushed off the front page straight away.

They get pushed off if posters decide the topics are stale and stop posting. At the moment the front page only shows threads that have been posted in within the last 13 hours or so, which is fairly current without threads disappearing from the front page too quickly IMO. The splitting of footy threads between the 'Melbourne Demons' and 'Locker Room' forums has certainly had an impact though.

Having everything in one spot is a way to keep it ticking over. Perhaps I'm lazy but I usually can't be bothered going on the locker room or general board here. Over at 'ology if a topic didn't interest me (footy or general) I just ignored it. Simply comes down to how each person uses it.

While some of it comes down to personal preference, there are also usability issues like I've mentioned before. If you have too many topics flooding a forum then threads don't get a chance to breathe because they're pushed off the main page before people pay attention.

Disclosure: IIRC I joined Demonology first, and although I went through a stage where I read both, I preferred the footy discussion on Demonology for a fair while. However, the constant sniping between Demonology 'personalities' derailed most threads and so I slowly drifted over to Demonland. I haven't read much on Demonology for a fair while and can't remember the last time I posted there.

There's always the the Bigfooty boards. Not sure what the pro-wrestling equivalent would be though!

Well, we welcome all comers here, assuming decent behaviour is adhered to...

All forums develop a community over time and obviously that has happened at Demonology.

Demonland may have a different community but I don't think anyone can judge the calibre of the footy talk as both sites would be comparable.

You quickly learn who is worth reading, who is not, and who is just trying to get their kicks by baiting people.

At least if you're new to BigFooty now you won't be saddened by the shambolic redesign they've just done (but to be fair the functionality of it is better).

I remember WW1 and then a couple of decades later they brought out WW2... in fact, 'ology and 'land forums occasionally remind me of both ;-)

Big Footy is definitely TNA. Home of the battler, idiot and the washed up. (and Supermercado).

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
