I had a look at the training session this morning at Gosch's Paddock. It was just terrific to see 3 guys who have been missing in action all year. Jetta, Gawn and Evans were running laps and finished with kick-to-kick (3 players in a triangle). Max looked in very good shape and appears to have bulked up a bit in the upper body. The official injury list has Jetta and Evans returning in 4-8 weeks, with Max out for the season, but it looks like he should be fine for the first day of pre-season training for next year.

Petterd was mostly walking laps. He's officially out for another week so he may have to wait till the next Casey match on June 24 to get some matchplay. I didn't see Bartram, Fitzpatrick, Jurrah, Viney or Taggart anywhere.

Today's session was relatively short - not much more than an hour and finishing at 11ish, and consisted of a handball session, a short passing session, and some matchplay. The movement out of the backline was good with some effective run and carry from Blease, but we struggled to hit the targets on the forward 50. I'd also like to see them score goals in their matchplay. The play seemed to stop once the ball got into the forward 50. In contrast, the Collingwood players were finishing off their work in the adjacent oval.

The highlight was the full-on wrestling match between Jade 'the snake' Rawlings and Jack Watts. Both players would be fined by the AFL in

a real game. Rawlings used a lot of his extra weight to advantage.

Frawley Blease and Martin are listed as 'test' but they all got through the full session this morning.

To summarize today's session in one word - noisy. They were in good spirits this morning. No surprises there. Go Dees.

The interesting this you mention is about Gawn, and being ready to go for day 1 of the preseason. I heard an interview with Lenny Hayes, and if he lost confidence after his knee reco (it was on the back of the discussion of Menzel doing his in his first game back). Hayes said the biggest thing for him was that because he did his early (round 2?), he was ready to go for day 1 of the preseason, so had a lot of cinfidence by the time he was playing his first match. He felt it was a lot different than doing it half way through the year, where your first decent hitouts would be actual practice matches/NAB cup games, and he'd imagine that the confidence level would be a lot lower.

The fact that Max has had his 2nd reco, but will hopefully be fully fit come day 1 of preseason, will hopefully make him a bit stronger and most importantly, have a lot of confidence when he starts to play NAB Cup, etc.

Garland was probably more in midfield, b/w mid and backline. Watts still down the back.

Saw this as well and thought it interesting how intense the exercise was. I thought there was a bit of 'mongrel'-baiting going on and Jack certainly seemed to be taking it seriously. Rawlings was physical with all of the other players he was working with but,IMO, not as physical as he was with Watts. No harm done, all will help him become a better player. To put it in a context, Jack had a kick-to-kick with a 5 year old girl at the end of training and didn't king hit her by way of compensation.

Also pleasing to see Jake Spencer getting a deal of one on one attention by various coaches.

One other thing that I've noticed is how quiet Moloney is during the sessions by comparison with previous years. Obviously, it's still hurting and the sooner he gets fully over it, the better.

Geez this guy can't do anything right by some people here... They'd tell him to pipe down and let the leaders lead if he was still vocal or they'd tell him to get over it if he toned it down a bit to leave room for the leadership group... Far out

Maybe he's finally realised that senseless shouting, pointing at no-one at stoppages, and general chest-beating behaviour have no place in Neeld's new playing environment. Hopefully he's understands the path back to the leadership group is through actions and work ethic, not by bullishly barking orders at younger players.

Give the bloke a bit more credit than that mate, he tries just as hard as anyone, he is very open about how proud he is as player and MFC person

Glad to hear it. That's one of my biggest criticisms of him. I know that I'd hate to have a guy like Moloney barking at me all day long, and I've got a feeling that a few of our younger players would feel the same.

I think it's a matter of balance. I think it's good that he's toned it down a notch or two because it allows others to have some impact and, frankly, this season his performance on the field (up to last week) hasn't been that great. Having said all that, I would be really happy for his on-field leadership to continue to return in line with his performance. I can understand his feelings & reaction but he will want to be remembered as a winner and a key part of a great team. Everyone knows that he's capable of a bit more and this week, more than most, I will be really happy to see him soar.

I know Nathan Jones wasn't dropped from the leadership group but the example he has set for everyone else has been phenomenal. I see Beamer as being a player with similar abilities who needs to use NJ as his benchmark.

Good call. No further comment from me other than to say that the reason I included the remark in the report was that, for a while, I wondered if he was injured because I hadn't noticed him at all in over an hour. I finally only spotted him as he left the field. That would never have been the case in the past.

Malthouse has said a few times that leading into Queens birthday he'd send the scout to check out our training.

Specifically to focus on our talk and exuberance apparently according to Malthouse whenever we were up and about, chatty, exuberant he knew they'd win that week cause we would have ran the race before getting to the starting line.

Any truth to that philosophy do the players build it up and burn out cause its our guranteed big game where as for the Pies it's another week.

Malthouse consistently said it was our grandfinal a cheap shot sure but is it completely baseless?

Only recently Eddie threatened to take our sponsors, take the QB game off us, steal our players and shag our mothers.

Sure feeds the "Them against the world" mantra he preaches to the black and white unwashed.

Also feeds our desire to roll 'em on QB.

but i don't see why he thinks he can call the shots on who's home game it is.

King dick, thinks he has the power to dismantle a club, take our sponsors and home games.

I recall him saying on SEN that perhaps melb doesn't need these home games as melb obviously have a lot of cash now,

so we would give the QB to you eddy? The club that stated they are a multi million dollar business?

Hope the boys have fire burning in their bellies to flatten the pies.
