Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

First post guys, not sure if it has been posted already, but heres an article by Mick Malthouse that is quite insightful and worth a look.

Cheers

Good first post MM. Really fascinating article, especially this bit:

"We designed the no space, no pace concept and challenged our players to absorb it. They took it on board and we lived by that code for the years that Mark was the midfield coach. It showed me that tactically he was very good and very sound. He understands why things are done in football and why players are rotated through certain roles."

No doubt Neeld is trying to implement this "code" at the dees. For our older midfield players such as Moloney this approach would take time to get your head around given they had set up much more offensively under Bailey. Might explain why we have struggled with clearances. We were noticeably better Sat night with this and now that i think about we were pretty good at stopping players like Stanton and Watson getting the easy, clean take always that can hurt so much

We had a lot more Jamar to Maloney last year, but perhaps that's in least part due how they set up because we also had heaps of times where the opposition would take the ball from the stoppage time after time with the same ease that Malthouse notes he wanted to ensure the maggies avoided (eg kerr in a straifght line and a pass to Embley).

I also liked Malthouse's point about the need to be patient. Sage words indeed. When was this article written, i couldn't find a date?

Great article - and I loved his final philosophical quip: "The ox is slow but the earth is patient" (no apologies to Mr Schwarz :-) )

Hopefully some especially here will get of MN's back and let him whip our team into shape, and succeed.

Great article. From the sidelines, my sentiments exactly.

I also like this quote - "Put simply, their recruiting has been poor."

I know it needs no more air time on this site, but some of our recruiting decisions have not exactly been the percentage plays.

cheers MM. I agree with watt you say.

But can't we call a spade a spade, at least while were learning to trust our administrators to do the logical footy things & cull the list the correct ways.

It's been a long time since we could trust our administration to do the right footy things.

It's been Dog eat Dog for us, or cold Pies on colder Winters.

This is a very thoughtful article, defending his old mate. I do agree that MFC at times seemed to stand for everything but football and I do think the Keystone Cops could have managed better than many of our past administrations.. I am somewhat more dubious about the detrimental effects on the AFL coach's families though. That lies more with the incredibly low standard of sports journalism in Australia, sometimes makes Women's Day look positively profound. My main concern with the patience approach is that I only have one lifetime, at least in this incarnation.

I find myself liking Malthouse more and more ever since he left the filth. When this guy talks coaching, you listen.

I would've thought most switched on people would have paid attention to him even when he was coaching Collingwood.

He has been making insightful commentary for years now.

Good article. I think Mick has struggled a bit with the line between opinion and sensationalism this year, a lot of it due to his new employers exploiting his obvious relevance.

Anybody that has a crack at Stephen Milne the way he did is ok with me though. ;-)

You want your first-round draft picks to be 10-year players and the likelihood of that happening with some of the players they have chosen over the last three of four seasons is slim.

Not sure about this bit.. Although I think it is a truthful read, that I mostly agree with. I also wonder how much of it is just MM looking after his mate.

I never said I didn't pay attention to him at Collingwood, Jose. I merely said I am liking him more without his Collingwood hat on and he is free to be alot more impartial. Most of his exposure he used to have was through the match pressers where his arrogance and dismissiveness became a constant theme.

Still resorting to the insults I see. I guess me being less switched on foolishly thought you'd woken up to yourself in that department.

I'm just saying that you obviously missed all the salient and impartial commentary he gave throughtout 2010 and 2011, of which there was a lot.

It's to you how you interpret it.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
