Contract negotiations with Port reported to have hit a stalemate. Hard at it Victorian midfielder, who at 23 years of age is in the perfect age bracket to be a leader within a developing list such as ours. Definitely going to have the means to get a trade done, would really like to see us have a crack at him.

Dont think he is a leader at port but think he could be a valuable addition to our midfield for sure, nothing more than pick 12 though imo, only some fluff extra

I didn't think Clark was a leader at the Lions...

Absolutely. It was he and Dangerfield last year I wanted us to to turn Heaven & Earth to get to Melbourne... Dangerfield isn't signed, YET...

And Boak is a Must for us.

We also need to have another crack at Caddy.

Pity about Gaff.

Yes, just like we needed Salopek the year before. And Adam Thomson the year before that.

He's their best player FFS. No chance he's going anywhere.

It wouldn't be the first time that a club has lost their best player. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him move, but I doubt it will be to the Demons.

Why wouldn't he come to melbourne?

We have fantastic facilities, an extensive coaching team and will have plenty of cash to splash.

He is young enough not to be demanding instant success, and would be a magnificent addition to our insipid midfield.

Very underrated outside of SA.

We should go all guns blazing.

It has been mentioned by various media outlets that if he is on the move, Geelong would be the front runner.

That is a fair call, does anyone know if he is injured? only 1 game this season??

I know I'm dreaming, but what this team needs to do is suddenly have the plan click and come home with a wet sail in the second half of the season... then we would have no trouble bringing in the right players come the trade period.

Spot on. We can have the best facilities and offer long, large contracts, but the biggest pull factor to get star players to our club will be us showing some promise in the second half of the season.

I wonder if Mitch Clark would have come to Melbourne if we'd played like this last year.

Maybe.

I've notice Emma Quayle now questioning the so called "super draft" this year. She isn't so sure and now questions its depth. But she certainly believes its strong at the pointy end.

That can only be good news for us in the likely event we remain anchored near the bottom.

After the bye, I would hope that the "new game plan" has sunk in, the lead swingers and malcontents will have been dispatched permanently to Casey and beyond, and only those with a passion and commitment will get game time. This should bring at least some promise of ongoing success as we approach the end of the season.

And, Mitch Clark came over despite our horrendous second half of 2011, so late season results clearly aren't necessarily a huge factor.

Not that it means much but I think the Boaks are Melbourne supporters. What the MFC has that a Geelong or Essendon will not have is teh possibility of 3 top 15 picks in the draft. Most likely Geelong and Essendon will be lucky to get a pick inside 18. No matter what Boak wants he will not get to either of these clubs. The other big advantage of finishing bottom 3 gives us pick 1-3 in the pre-season draft so you can threaten clubs accept this pick or get nothing for him and we take him in the pre-season draft.

It will be a hard sell but it depends on his true desire to move back to Vic.

One of the few I'd be willing to cough up what was required to get.

Geelong also have compo pick to trade. so 2 late first rounders, maybe one mid

Essendon dont know how to trade anymore, as seen with Caddygate

I would certainly hope we give it our best crack, especially if we lose/move on Moloney or Slyvia...

Name, games, Age.

Brad Green 244 31yr 2mth - retirement beckons.

Aaron Davey 157 28yr 11mth - trade for something.

Mark Jamar 118 28yr 9mth - like to keep, potential trade.

Brent Moloney 136 28yr 3mth - fresh fields beckons for brent, gone.

Joel Macdonald 111 27yr 7mth - may get 1 yr for depth, hard & intensity.

Jared Rivers 136 27yr 7mth - Keep, required for 2 years.

Colin Sylvia 125 26yr 6mth - I've recently given up on Col, the swans would love him I reckon. Trade.

Steph Martin 52 25yr 6mth - Steph, show something,,, potential trade out.

Lyndon Dunn 86 25yr - not for my list. gone.

Matthew Bate 97 25yr - 1 yr...or gone.

For me, I have 5 definite Outs. With more potential trades as well.

Green, Davey, Moloney, Sylvia, Dunn... players have made they're beds too comfy @ our expense.

*Early 2012 Picks (inc' comp' picks) for top young Mids, & trade for "a", 'Boak', 'Dangerfield', 'Caddy', Foley,

* I'd also look to try to entice some hard leadership, with trades or later picks, & healthy contracts to some mature players, a Chapman, JCorey, Heath Scotland,

I hope she's right.

We can deal strongly about the pointy end, & can find more blue collar hardness after that.

We don't need too much but we do need hard leadership from some old souls. our old salts are to windblown to steer this place.

The question is how much more than Geelong would we need to offer to lure him?

He's a Geelong boy and according to Damien Barrett they will be offering $500k+ a year. He'd be living with family and friends, playing in a successful side.

We might need to pay him $750k to lure him up the highway...is he worth that sort of money? Is he even a Top 50 player?

Posted

Only going on his 2012 season thus far he's performing at around B+ level which is infinitely better than any options we have currently. Don't think he's worth more than 450 K though. Averaging around 22 possessions and 6 clearances a game with a fairly low disposal percentage. (This may be due to a lack of support and the role he's playing though).

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
