Was checking out Mitch Clark's mark on the AFL - Mark of the Year gismo and thought we've had a few entries this year. Counted them up and we have 6 of the 21 contenders this year, with then next best tally being 3 (Carlton)...

Whooo Hooo

Go Demons.

And Liam is ... back?!

Last year, in spite of some competitive results, I couldn't see how we were ever going to be good enough to compete for a premiership. This year, it feels different.

I can see that there's a plan and that all of the players are trying to play to it. I have seen some genuine improvement in a number of players however some are still struggling. I see that our skills with the ball are improving. We have recruited an effective spearhead and a good inside mid in Jimmy We have a professional and competitive coaching team + Dave Misson.

As as PRB said, LJ is back and seems to have improved his defensive work rate.

Def not all bad.......just (???) need to get some results on the board.

What a shot in the arm a win would do.....Confidence......

I can hardly wait........and I guess there'll be a few players who would also be just hanging out for it. Can you imagine the pleasure that Mitch and Jimmy M will get from their first win?

That's the "Buy in" only the players can get that win. Whatever they are doing now is still not enough. Harder work (more spews!) whatever it is. The hard part is some of the older players can't or won't take that step into the unknown.

Or will they...15 weeks to find out. I want to be suprised & even wrong. Anyone who plays AFL has Guts, only some thrive on it.

Another bright spot is we can't fall any lower and it's all up from here...

Tex Walker doing well in the coleman, but should come back to the pack with his unfortunate suspension.

Spotted an article where North's Scott noted that the player's effort had been 'un-North Melbourne-like'.

Aside from being a bit unwieldy as a phrase, it got me thinking. You can't say that Melbourne have played an 'un-Melbourne-like' game for many years. Certainly not in a bad sense!

Even in the better days, we were never consistent enough to establish a reputation for anything positive.

In a way it is making me think of the new coaching panel's job. To get them playing 'Neeld-like' football whether they like it or not, (which I gather mostly means relentless contested efforts and hard running to get to contests and zones) and to establish that n the club culture so that failure to do so can be called 'un-Melbourne-like'.

surely you are not including the 50's/early 60's as those "better days" being "anything positive"?

A tiny bright spot?

I think Mitch Clark has been a revelation. He's still only 24 and will be a real positive for years to come. He has established he can convert from very few opportunities this year. I don't know our inside 50 stats but I'm sure they aren't flash. His five against WCE is a stand out as was his four against Geelong.

Just imagine what he could do if the ball started to visit our forward line more often!

Also Mitch Clarke has been 8/1 and 9/1 respectively to kick the most goals from either team for the last two weeks running and has done so on both occasions..... might come in a bit this week as Sydney tend to spread their goal kickers, but hey reckon he could be a good thing again.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
