Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What is a good supporter & what is a Bad supporter, & can you actually tell from one meeting where you haven't even sat & had a conversation?

I could easily say that supporters who do nothing more than total blind support, have stifled this club, aiding apathy..

Theres good and bad in every thing in this world. depending on your perspectives around things.

Maybe IF we were a little more hard to please, we wouldn't be in a situation where we haven't won a premiership for 47 odd years of footy.

I reckon this is overstating the effect of supporters on the playing group.

Melbourne supporters have always been self deprecating.

If all you heard from your colleagues in your workplace were whispers of your complete lack of ability, do you think this would have a positive or negative effect?

The Players are the only ones who can change this.

Right or Wrong Supporters pay their $$$ and want to be entertained...That's how it all started....

Some of these people would sterilize & homogenise all sports.

Sport is all about competing. Competing is an aggressive act. Life is all about aggression to get things done. Harmony is lovely & I'm almost, Buddhist, but still IMO, aggression is necessary in life.

To over protect is to disarm, & IMO that can have bad after effects.

It is not about sterilizing or homogenising.....it is about what is the point of personally abusing somebody, unless the person doing it is the type of person who will get a rise out of a certain appendage by doing it.......and aggression is necessary in life,,,,really...that is a nice indictment on modern society

When i take a four year old to a game of footy and sit in what is supposedly a family friendly area and the idiot with the dreadlocks and goatee yells out "Morton you weak gutted c..." it's a bit much.

I get as excited as the next bloke but some need to temper thier excitability and consider those around them..

And if you happen to read this post mate, pull your head in.

Can someone fill me in why Melbourne supporters were booing Milne after his 500th? I understand if he did something that game like Montagna or Goddard did, but it was a good effort for a small forward to hit 500 goals and the booing that ensued wasn't a good look.

Not from your Colleagues. This Would be Corrosive.

But if it were from your clients, it would make you work harder to improve.

We're Not the colleagues.

We are the clients of the club. We are the ones with the hopes of the outcome. We are the ones they continually try to sell us the message. Why, do they have to try so hard, to sell to Us?

Because it's been mucked Up so much in the last 40 odd years, the supporters, the ones still surviving &/or still around, are sceptacle & we are rusted on.

I wonder if over the last 40ish years, we have become so conditioned to only having one or two players to cheer on, we now accept that & look to the next young thing to look too hard for hope in them. In the end we an cause them to Not Fulfill they're potential through our focused attention on them.

It's they're for all to see,,, Re the Sydney Swans, just how well they go in the shadows of the AFL.

The same can be said & has, re the Melbourne Storm players, away from too much public spotlight, allowing them to breath & to develop at they're own pace.

It's not abusing a person. It's abusing a Footy Player. It isn't personal, & I'm sure they wouldn't abuse the person over personal Issues. But then again some may have a slight against a Milne for off field antics.

They don't like him & don't respect him for what he's done in the past off field.

It's a healthy outlet for people to get they're frustrations & pent up feelings off they're chest.

Fair enough, be prepared to cop it back when Jurrah plays though.

FWIW I've got young kids and am doing my best to instil a love for the red&blue and it players .

I've taken them over to the race after a couple of games to get a closer look at their idols and some of the abuse the players cop is not acceptable.

I realise many are frustrated but please , keep it in perspective.

God knows what the kids are thinking .

P.s. There isn't club out there that their supporters don't turn on their own when they're getting done.

That was one of the joys of footy for me when we had a decent side , listening to the opposition fans turn on their own players.

Nothing annoys me more than supporters who get upset when people make negative comments.

I never abuse our players and never will, but I get annoyed when we do stupid things and I express that frustration. I'm an emotional footy supporter and I make no apologies for that.

I don't swear (loudly enough for anyone to hear anyway :P), and I will stand and cheer everything good that we do, so if me expressing my emotions annoys people then they can stay at home.

If you want to watch in silence watch it on TV. Otherwise harden up. Our players hear worse from our coaches everyday.

The main gripe is the frustration caused by MFC supporters who seemingly take joy out of the failure of our team even in the face of improvements that they would likely demand i.e. effort, skill, passion. This is not a call for sterilisation of the game. There's nothing better than the ball moving to a throw-in at a key moment in the game, and the Dees supporters rising as one, in a passionate, often expletive laden, unidentifiable and often non-understandable roar of encouragement...It often seems that this helps the players (but it's easy to overrate the affect of crowds on professional sport). This is what we should aspire to. True, this can't really happen when we are being blown out - but no one is suggesting that we all should not be angry at poor performance. There's just far too many out there who seem to prefer to smirk at on-field incompetence, than get fired up by hardness at the ball or great goals or great acts of courage.

I understand your indignation, but balance in life is most Important..

Of those sides I bet many are successful sides.

Ours without the bagging, well, we haven't gone very well. It depends on what you want I guess.

Of the ingredients of a successful side, I think a great Off field culture of Non acceptance of poor form, But also definitely not accepting, avoidance of physical contests,,, & short stepping to the contest.

IMO a balance of Strong Onfield Football Values, followed up by a supporter base who want them to withhold the Old Tradition of Going When it's your turn. And having a Red Hot go at the contest.

If some cop some verbally, OK. As long as it's not about personal things. Like family or race, etc.

If it's about the footballer, I reckon it's alright.

Just like it may be a politician your heckling.

Yes he has.

And IMO , any-one who goes out of their way specifically to abuse players from behind the the safety of the fence is a coward.

i really respect the way you respect the opposition

you would be a good one to be next to in the trenches, showing the enemy so much respect

yes. good sarcastic point.

"the trenches"? neither of us were there, obviously, but how right is it as an analogy, do you really think?

maybe we should R-rate football, to protect the naive who think they can take their kids to something so clearly about hate and annihilation?

Yeah maybe we should treat our players with R espect and they will treat us with respect - win-win from both sides. If we abuse them I think we are fair game for them to abuse us when it counts both on the field & off the field come trade & draft time.

Easy concept for all to understand around here.

Maybe everyone can respect each other Dr! Why confine it to our players and others children

If they want to get on board we are happy with mutually respect. But we know from experience's old habits die hard.

There is light at the end of the tunnel we are investing & importing good footy people & ideas across the whole spectrum of our football club, but no more band-aids. We have had enough of the noisy minority.

There BS & "politics" has held us back, this is now an inclusive club not an exclusive club. We are not here to "make friends" it was always going to upset some. This is about our kids and leaving them a better MFC than we found it.

These changes had to be made or we where destined for the pages of history- Jimma has the balls to stand up - we are not going to let his legacy be a bump in history.

I reckon it's about 50-50 what you've said there. I think some blame has to go to the players, but really the reason the club is suffering is more the AFL than anything. We think we have it tough, consider the NFL which has absurd amounts of money. They still seem to run one of the most even comps in the world. It CAN be done. But the AFL seems intent on making the rich clubs richer. Under that duress, we were always going to be in this situation.

That aside though, Morton has been a waste up until this last week in which he had 20-something touches, showed a tiny bit of ticker and everyone's suddenly on his side. He's still entirely sub par. I watched the game with WC supporters, and they thought it was laughable that MFC supporters were positive on Morton. Given his talent, intelligence and skill with long kicking, as well as his time in the game, 20-something touches ONE TIME is not good enough. Not by their standards.

Davey is changing the way he plays the game, which is a courageous and humiliating thing to do. I love it. He's stopped niggling at contests and is playing the ball and the man. One day soon he's going to get his rib cage crushed, but I'll love him for it. And the fact he will have had a very good AFL career when he retires some day.

Watts had one bad game, but still deserves time and last weekend aside, is making good movements.

Your mate in the crowd was a bit off, but not that far. All three aren't producing enough.

I dont want to tell you how to parent, but how about spend more time with your kids than the amount of time you spend on here. I dont think your role is to create a kid friendly culture by spreading a mantra on here. Nor do i dont believe you are spreading Jim's mantra and spreading a kind of MFC peace for the better good of the club. This club has always been inclusive IMO

To be honest, i really dont care for other peoples kids and i dont believe that football is essentially 'Not Kid Friendly'. I witnessed similar and worse 'Bad Behaviour' as a child in a time 'political correctness' did not exsist. Akunana. Its was also in a time our teams performance was equally, if not more, terrible than it is now

i have never had a problem with you on here either and still dont. I have noticed behaviour from you that is less than respectful of others and dont believe you should expect respect from others when you have not been a model of behaviour yourself.

Lets agree to disagree - Yip I have NO respect for many Melbourne supporters around here you are 100% correct. They are ignorant lazy that live in another era. They are not footy people you only have to read what they write. I have no problems with that. But are we onto them - you betcha we are.

PS this is not an inclusive club yet people have been rejecting it for years- staff, kids, players & many more.

I've re read it & I still don't see what I've missed.

Maybe you kind enough to articulate what it was I've missed.

The point is that firstly the kids don't need to hear it.

The second is it's hard enough to get these kids supporting the dees without rabid supporters blasting our players with all the words your mum told you not to use.

Or maybe like gidon you couldn't give a toss about the kids or families.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
