If we start winning in the second half of the year, i'll scream!!!

By round 8, i'm going to be thinking draft picks......I hope we tank the whole year, and don't win a single game. That way, we get Jack Viney for a second round pick......

pick 1, pick 2, pick 12 and Jack Viney.......That's what i want!!!!

Well you can forget the Trade Table & the Free Agency process - you are then going NOWHERE. Hope you enjoy having this discussion because you will be doing it again in 3-4 years time.

Krazy, HOW dare you use common sense on this site it is not good enough so let this be a warning to if you do this again you will be banned for life!!

On a serious note the warning signs were there when Misson first started, he had his data from the Swans and the Saints and found that we were miles behind on running, core strength and physical strength and you can see that on the field and we will be a different side towards the end of the year.

How about this club wins some respect by playing hard accountable Football ASAP.

F#$%&k Tanking mate...it is a weak excuse...we have been burnt once already...Rather Badly...I would hope this 154 year old sporting club will have learnt some bitter lessons over the last 12 months or so.

Winners get Respect. With Free Agency Winning will attract names.

The Media loves Tanking...Do not believe all you read.

I believe there is still one vacancy amongst the recruiting staff at MFC, so assume all the gurus on this board, who can pick a Brownlow winner at 17 will apply for it!!!

Make no mistake about it! The first half of this season is going to be hard to watch... Let's be realistic... But I have faith that the 2nd half of this year we will start to see some serious improvement (barring our injury list growing) in the results... As Mark has stated, the effort is good... But he cannot come out in a presser and say "The effort is good, but our skills are the $hittest I have ever seen!" Which is exactly what he will be thinking...

exactly.

Krazy thread after the amount of [censored] Krazy consumes during games it's a wonder he can see the skillset let alone how bad it's been , hence the drinking I suppose....suck it up boys & girls as Apollo said to Rocky in III or was it IV 'a lot of folks are gonna owe you an apology after this fight'. Vengeance is a soup best served cold!!!!

circa 2012 there will be three ways to improve your WHOLE list

a/ recruit players either 18yo's or older

b/ trade for players

c/ Free agency

However, what you must understand you have a limited list size. So for every addition you must have a deletion. or if we delist 7 players we create 7 spots.

So who is best placed to assess that? Your recruiting manager who deals with just the talent identification process? - NO

No the person who deals with(coaches) your list on a weekly basis - pointing out the weakness & strengths of the opposition. But by sheer observation he will be identifying the strengths and weakness in his own list.

So he is perfectly placed come draft time to answer the following question

a/ Club x want to trade player y to us for picks x in the draft or player x - tick

b/ Player x is up for free agency - yes he can improve our list because player x on our list has the following weakness - tick

c/ Should we use pick x in the draft or should we not? How will that improve our list? - tick

d/ How deep is the draft? How does the player most likely to be avaliable at pick x suit our needs - tick

etc the questions can go on & on & on.

Oppostion Analysis - is a [censored] name - it should be something like COMPLETE STRATEGIC LIST DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - that has a complete understanding of your WHOLE list and ways to improve your WHOLE list - I think we will be in good hands with Todd Viney circa 2012.

Consider him as a bridge between your coaching team & your recruiting team. Its not all about getting the easy call right - the true win is when you get those 50/50 calls right. B)

The key is the AFL season last 26 weeks - you get 4 weeks annual leave - what do you think the "Oppostion Analyst" (terrible name) does for the other 22 weeks - play with his old fella? No the game has moved forward in 2012.

Totally agree.

Neelds great one liner sums this up.

From the moment he walked into the club.

"It's a clean slate"

Everyone's position is up for grabs. The FD will sit down near the End of the season and go through the list like no other season.

We have the room in the salary cap to be very competitive bidder at Free Agency.

We also have a few overpaid duds which will make room. And we will finish low enough to ensure we draft the right type of player.

The size and experience in our FD will ensure that this happens.

We haven't had a FD before that can do that.

Yes write off this year, but look for the changes for next year.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
