Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Changes for Round 5 vs St Kilda

OUT: J Macdonald, T McDonald, Sellar, Dunn

IN:: Grimes, Petterd, Martin, Sylvia

We can't carry both Joel Mac and Bartram, with the quality of disposal in our back half. Joel's disposal and fumbles have gone from just bareable to terrible this season.

Tom Mc has had a stint and shown a bit (some running flare), but needs to go back and dominate at VFL level and work on his disposal and decision making. Again, too many poor disposers in the back half.

Grimes won't add much in regards to disposal quality, but is quality reader of the play, wins one-on-ones and sets up play better than both of these two.

Really desperately need some run and decent disposal across half back. C'mon Strauss, get fit and back to the form you showed just before the leg break. We need you. Alternatively, Blease, get an attitude adjustment and switch on.

Not sure why Martin was dropped after one poor game. Sure, his worse is inferior to Sellars' best at this stage, but I'd rather him in the ruck and pinch hitting up forward, or back on the resting ruckmen, than Sellar. Sellar to stay in if Clarke is rested due to neck or concussion.

I really think we need to stop picking and dropping Petterd and Dunn with such regularity. Saying that, I'd drop Dunn for Petterd, as I think he has more upside. But for god's sake, let one of them have half a dozen games in a row and try and find some consistency.

Sylvia picks himself, if fitness rumours are true.

Out: Lynden the fraud Dunn.

Has anyone noticed how his chase only starts when his opponent is beyond reach.

He put more effort and energy into pestering Murphy than playing footy.

He put more effort into bumping his opponent after the umpire has signalled time on than playing footy- tough guy.

In: Petterd

Actually ditch my last post. I don't even know who's available. Is Straus ready? Is Blease going to have a crack? Ahh deckchairs on the Titanic, we are going to lose the next 8 anyway

Not sure why you bother to comment Sloonie. You're very very sad

Out- Sellar, Dunn, Jmac, Clark (if unfit)

In- Martin, Petterd, Davis, Fitzy

Whoever's moronic decision it was to drop Martin when there was no proper VFL game on should be shot. How are you supposed to work on your game when you have no means to do that?

Dunn should never put on the red and blue guernsey again. Period.

Petterd will be his replacement.

Jmac's disposal is a disgrace and an advantage for the opposition.

I want to blood Davis and I want to give Fitzy a run if Clark doesn't pull up. I'm not expecting a win anyway- might as well get some games into kids. Yeah we're at that stage allready ffs!

Spot on about the lot especially Davis give him a run whats the worst that could happen?

OUT; Macdonald, McDonald, Dunn (Clark, McKenzie).

Macdonald's disposal is verging on Auskick stuff. Unbelievable.

McDonald needs to learn how to tackle correctly.

Dunn needs to either switch to boxing or figure out how to get a kick, because if he's just going to mouth-off all day instead of play footy, then he can just p*ss off.

IN: Grimes, Petterd, Sylvia, (Martin, COUCH!!! FFS!)

Grimes is our co-captain and is an obvious "in" despite his sometimes woeful disposal. But since he's replacing Macdonald, it'll be "like for like" in that department.

Petterd is always the first to get dropped, but when he's mentally "on," he's a ferocious tackler and a great, versatile marking option.

Sylvia, who's finally fit and available for selection. Gives us everything we need in the midfield, and is one of our only top-class players.

If Clark is injured, he'll go out for Martin.

Couch obviously tried to crack on to one of Neeld's daughters, since he can never find a spot in our side, but I think he should be given a run. McKenzie played pretty poorly today, IMO, and needs a run in the twos, so maybe he could make way.

Sylvia is definitely back in for the match against S tKilda, he was fit enough to play this week however missed due to serving first round suspension.

I overheard a bloke ask him at the footy today " when are you back" to which he replied "next week". You would have to think that it would be straight into the seniors, not Casey. Hope so!

Sellar had 2 possessions at 3/4 time. Not good enough. Unless we have a specific defensive role for him next week, he shouldn't play.

In: Grimes, Petterd, Martin, Sylvia

Out: Dunn, Macdonald, Sellar, McDonald (even though I love him and think he'll be great)

Not sure if that leaves us short on defenders. Depends if Tappy goes back next week.

Neeld has said Sylvia will play next week after being avaliable for today, but because the club is turning into the professionals that they are, Neeld made him sit out his club-based 1 match suspension after recovering from injury.

What are everyone's thoughts on this? Fair enough? Or did we need him back asap

Yep, make a statement!

We aren't going to play off for the flag this year. So let us put the dog before the tail, otherwise we'll be perennially going backwards.

The team ethos first.

Bit hard on Tom McDonald. The only way he'll become an AFL footballer is getting him up to the speed of the game and its wrong for anyone to blame him for our 'backline problems'. He's played a total of five games.

Sending him back to Casey will just give him an easier time without learning the pace of AFL and what's required.

I believe Nicholson had to serve his club suspension after returning from injury.

What's good for the goose.......

Clark has tweeted he's alright. Hopefully available next week. Thought he did the number proud.

It's a shame Dunn couldn't follow his leadership down forward and instead ran around mouthing off like the muppet he is.

Out: McDonald, Macdonald and someone.

In Sylvia, Grimes and Davis

I'd love to bring Strauss back ASP to get some decent disposal into the backline, but I don't think he's ready yet. Give him at least one game at Casey to find his feet again.

Sellar seems to be a popular choice for the third out. I can go with that as much for balance as for form. We are too tall and need to get a few more running players into the side.

If Mitch Clark is out because of his neck, Martin comes in to play the same role. He won't take the marks, but at least he'll get in there and fly at the high ball.

Agree he certainly isn't to blame for our backline problems, but his disposal and decision making isn't helping, piled on top of the poor disposers and inconsistent decision makers we already have in our backline. Not sure we need a fourth dedicated tall in the back half, and Chip, Riv and (an admittedly down on form) Garland, plus a pitch hitter in Sellar/Martin are our best options for now, I believe.

Also, I don't necessarily agree that the only way to develop him is to keep in at AFL level. Like you say, he's played 5 games. From my experience, it is sometimes better to give inexperienced players incrementally larger tastes of top level footy, rather than leave them in too long, particularly if they are copping confidence-battering beatings. From memory, he was very good in his first few games, a little flaky last week, and one of our worst this week. I'd get him to head back to a more successful VFL side with a communicated expectation that he should be able to dominate, whilst he still has the injection of self-belief that he probably got competing at AFL level. It just might solidify his confidence ready for a return. Just my view, of course.

Tom was really bad today. There's no getting around that. Yes, he's only played a handful of games, but we can't have that sort of disposal in our back half. If we had ready-made replacements I'd be saying to drop McDonald, MacDonald, Bartram and Garland, because they are all terrible kicks. Sadly, we don't have anyone to replace Garland and BArtram, so they have to stay and we just have to hope they play within themselves and stick to long bombs down the line. We DO have players to replace the two Mc's, so they can go play for Casey for a while. Tom can come back if and when he shows improved decision-making and disposal.

Magner had Boyd under his thumb all day, but he didn't act like he was 4 goals up, getting his dirty mo in everyone's grill every time the ball got within a 2 metre radius. Agro is one thing, but back it up with some skill and accountability to your team.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
