All the commentators talk way too much anyway . That would be ok if it were radio .

I used to like that red button you could press on foxtel . Mute the commentators and just hear the crowd noise . We don't need commentators when we're at the games . I don't know why stations insist on the "play by play" commentary . Surely they realise we can see what's going on .

I believe we need less "commentary" and more in depth and behind the scenes stuff . For instance we often have no idea who is in the forward line . A widescreen view would be better as well . The coverage of Soccer is generally done a lot better . Not that I'm a big fan of that sport .

BT at least adds a bit of colour and humour .

The incessant zooming in on the player with the ball, particularly at frees or marks, while we see absolutely nothing of the strategic placements ahead of the play pisses me off no end.

Yep , spot on monoccular . Nothing like being at the games hey . Most of us have now got these huge , oversized widescreen tele's and we still have no idea what's going on down the ground !

And often the commentators don't inform us of that either . There too busy carrying on about a "wonderful" handpass .

Cheers

Couldn't agree more!!

Which is why I love going to the games. You can see what's unfolding down the ground, look at players off the ball. They have this damn technology now- let us chose the camera angle we want- I would have it level 2 wing for the whole game damn it! I hate it when they zoom in on the player with the ball- it detracts from the spectacle of the bgame!

Great call!!

no need to make the cheers small, sing it loud!

The replays, shots of coachs, players spewing up or B grade celebs when the game is going on really, really annoys the hell out of me. Last night when Jordie smothered Goddards kick and other stuff was going on and it was all missed in real time then they had to try catch up with a replay and still didn't do justice to what was happening. It's really amatuer hour and I don't think the producers have a good feel for the game.

Any thoughts on Ling's commentary?

He mentioned something about how much he’d like to see Melbourne take some risks in the last quarter and take the game on.

If you're going to lose playing conservatively and keeping to the structures, you may as well risk loosing by a few more goals attempting to get a run on.

Neeld does want them to keep to their structures for a greater part of the game than the estimated 85% that they did agaginst the Saints. It's unlikely that they would have deviated from the game plan, but Ling no doubt knows a bit about playing in a good side that can be down in the last quarter and still get up and win.

Maybe we’ll see some of this in a few years or so... hopefuly.

BT’s hilarious, there are far worse comentators, and they also aint worth creating a thread for.

BT got off to a pi$spoor start pre match when he introduced a miked up Melbourne captain as Jackson Trengove and about a minute later as Jack Trengrove.....i dont mind BT's over the top commentary, but that is pretty disrespectful and ordinary stuff really.

Edit: spelling

At least he corrected himself, unlike Richo(?) who insisted on calling him TrengRove throughout the match!

BT is going down the Rex Hunt path of inane twattle. I am glad I have Foxtel without the ad breaks. Channel 7 is too unbearable. I always think the best commentators are the least noticed. If I have to pay any attention to them then I am distracted from enjoying the game.

The way he goes on about the "mick turner football factory" down at the falcons irritates me to no end. He mentions it basically every time I hear him commentate. They are best mates and mick turner...well the less said about him the better (everyone in geelong knows that he is not a good person)

Great article, summed it up nicely.

And I found one of the Kirk speeches mentioned...

Wow, I hadn't seen that before. That was horrible.

Rohan Connolly sticking the boot into Channel 7's coverage. And he is absolutely spot on IMO.

Wow! That article perfectly sums up everything my wife and I have been complaining about all year!

Thank God someone else finds Bruce and Dennis's little act insanely annoying!!

They are like two old men talking about tattoos, lame personal jokes and who every player supported as a child.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
