Now I need to know if I'm the only one who gets seriously frustrated with Brian Taylor's commentating. Last nights game between West Coast and Hawks, I couldn't believe how many ridiculous comments he'd make, totally irrelevent to football. I'm all for a good, rounded commentator, but seriously annoying! I was sure Richo was getting frustrated with him, right from before the game when BT contradicted him a couple of times, then during the game when Richo made a good point about forwards marking with arms outstretched giving a chance of a free kick, BT just couldn't get it and would just mock him instead.

Cometti? Mcaveney? even Sandy Roberts, where are you?

Posted

yeh he jokes around a fair bit. if you find him funny then it's entertaining, to others it's probably annoying. i reckon he's ok, bit of a different style

It's like he's trying recreate what he had on Triple M and is failing miserably.

The other commentators aren't interested in engaging in his byplay.

He gets the odd chuckle out of me but by and large he is an arrogant [censored] whose become worse over time. Richo was undestandably getting annoyed with the way BT would treat him like an idiot when he was making legitimate observations.

What I will say is that, at least he's accurate. I'm watching my cousin's son play (Luke Parker) and of course, want him to do well. So far, Commetti has called him Kieran Jack 4 times. Just gone half time.

Don't like the guy, can't take a stab from anyone without resorting to some sort of personal attack. Would be happy to see him off the air.

its this which gets me.

He is seriously bad. The fact he got the gig at 7 shows where their coverage is at. Amateurs and circus clowns!

Disgraceful was Billy on Triple M today. Kept making the bloody 'Melbourne need to be loud, go number nine, go Dees *clap*' in the first half when we were garbage, then in the 3rd when we got a run on and the roars went up with the shocking umpiring it was like we were nonexistant!

Posted

I was a fan of him when he was on triple m but he was really garbage last night. Partially ruined the game with his commentary. I'm really not a fan of him or Hamish McLachlan on tv. Dennis and Bruce are by far the best TV commentators

Posted

Not as bad as Eddie or Der-wayne.

Always just listen to the ABC stream. Thank goodness for Whateley.

BT is quite entertaining and he was giving reasonable assessments of what Melbourne had to do to stay in the game. If you want sledging dressed up as commentary try Mark Maclure and to a lesser extent Stan Alves on ABC when the dees are down, they really go to town.

Darcy was worse last night. He called Gysberts about 100 times when he meant McKenzie. Now it's fine the first time, but eventually you'd think you'd get it right. Richo was probably the best of the commentators last night, he actually added some fresh ideas. It seems Maxwell's main job was to validate that Scott Watters and Mark Neeld both coached at Collingwood and that StKilda like dropping men behind the ball. Makes you wonder if as a current player he will ever add anything new.

BT got off to a pi$spoor start pre match when he introduced a miked up Melbourne captain as Jackson Trengove and about a minute later as Jack Trengrove.....i dont mind BT's over the top commentary, but that is pretty disrespectful and ordinary stuff really.

All the commentators talk way too much anyway . That would be ok if it were radio .

I used to like that red button you could press on foxtel . Mute the commentators and just hear the crowd noise . We don't need commentators when we're at the games . I don't know why stations insist on the "play by play" commentary . Surely they realise we can see what's going on .

I believe we need less "commentary" and more in depth and behind the scenes stuff . For instance we often have no idea who is in the forward line . A widescreen view would be better as well . The coverage of Soccer is generally done a lot better . Not that I'm a big fan of that sport .

BT at least adds a bit of colour and humour .

I loved it when he was on Triple M however I'm not a fan of his CH7 work. Constantly calls the wrong names in a lot of games!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
