Who cares about MCC vs MFC whatever.

We had 33K at the game tonight to farewell one of if not out most favoured son of the last 50 years+

It was our home game and i dont really want to guess how many turned up.

If we dont find some members then we wont have a club in 20 years time.

Master Demon in our defence, about 5-10 thousand of that 33 thousand that attended today were bulldog supporters. We outnumbered them greatly, and cheered extremely louder too.

I think there were closer to 2000-5000 doggies supporters there. No lie. There were stuff all. We had a pretty dominant Dee's crowd last night. I am both MFC and MCC member but always sit in the MCC. Not because I think I am elitist or anything like that. Usually because it is the most MFC dominant area of the stadium. Thats a fact. It would be nice if more MFC members sat in the old 'red seat section so we could be united on the wing as one supporter group.

I spoke to CS about this some years ago at one of the Youth Summit's. He told me at the time that teh MFC was looking at moving the MFC mmebers backt o the Northern stand and Olympic stands.

I've never really had any inclination to join the MCC purely because I just wasn't interested, nothing against it but just not interested. I used to sit in the outer and then the red seats; even when I joined up as a member of the redlegs I still used to sit in the red seats.

I've seen families grow up over the years and kids become parents bringing their own kids to the games it was a great atmosphere. I joined the Legends club and sit next to the members area about 5 or 6 seats away and it's a great view from there, and I can understand why some want to be members but I'm happy where I am and see the same Melbourne supporters there week after week.

To each to his/her own I don't care where anyone wamts to sit, it's just the attitude that sometimes goes with it that annoys.

Well good on you Robbie for finding a spot you're happy with.

I don't usually sit in GA, and subsequently don't have a preferred spot, so I usually end up with the leftovers.

And they're probably the leftovers because of the undesirables nearby.

But that has been my past experience.

FWIW I came across an annoying [censored] of a bulldogs supporter yesterday too in the MCC and had to tell him to shut his mouth.

The thing is that no one wants to lose their membership, so it ended in a civilised fashion.

In GA I'm not sure I'd get the same outcome.

I've been an MCC and full MFC member for over 40 years (thanks Dad).

I still go and sit with friends on the outside from time to time but prefer the view from the mezzanine stand within the MCC just in front of and handy to the bar.

Remember that the Football Club is a sporting section of the Cricket Club and wandering around the members section one is reminded of the fact at almost every turn,

The portrait of the "team of the century" in the passage way at the rear of the long room (and viewable through a window in the long room), the bronze door outside the dining room depicting the Melbourne Football Club, the MFC display on Bourke Street, lower level Members Stand and the new David Neitz bar on level four.

There is also some nice MFC memorabilia inside the committee room! And of course we have the Albert Chadwick Room and just outside the MCC area there is the Jim Stynes Function Room. No other football club has a real presence within the confines of the MCC.

Among the sporting sections of the Melbourne Cricket Club (tennis, bowls, golf, hockey, baseball, lacross etc) the MFC has along with cricket the most visible presence.

I understand the MFC supporters are in the majority within the MCC membership (but still under 25%) and that Essendon supporters come next at about 12%.

Years ago before the football club broke away from the cricket club, support for the football club was as high as 50%. But since then cricket club membership has trippled and with more and more people applying for membership (I think the waiting list is about 200,000) the member profile has changed and diversified.

Anyone who thinks the MCC is 'elitist' has rocks in their head. How could an elitist club have almost 100,000 members, and only cost $600/year in fees??? ANYONE can get on the waiting list, and anyone can enter the stand as a visitor, for the same price as general admission. If it's elitist they are doing a pretty poor job of keeping people out. Anyone who is a sports fan in Melbourne is mad not to be a member IMO, or on the waiting list. All you need to do is attend a few finals matches to get your money's worth each year.

Demons supporters still have the largest representation for MCC members, so whoever said it's Collingwood made that stat up.

As has been pointed out, half of the MCC demons supporters have an MFC membership, and they sit in the MCC so don't even aborb any resources for their fees other than a scarf and calendar. Additionally, as has been pointed out, the MCC provides financial assistant to the Dees each year.

All you say is true, but I think the MCG staff police the loutish behaviour a lot better in the MCC, and I prefer that environment for watching the football.

I believe the MCC has agreater proportion of Collngwd members than Melbourne supporters. I think I have read that they have only a minority of MFC members and they would probably contain similar proportions of all clubs supporters as the general population.

Its the same thing when you go to the snow, There are as more other teams scarves on display than there are Melbourne but we will always be disparaged as snow bunnies. (I have indicated to the club that we should leverage of this perception and try and attract the snow crowd to join us)

I wear my colours and my allegiance proudly wherever I am and I respect any supporter for any other club who does the same.

I have always welcomed the passion and the banter that support generates.

I know that I have heard comments within and outside the MCC Members that are considered foul or unwholsome. I try to treat them all with a grain of compassion and know that I have made comments that have been perceived as foul .

I always try to think of context and recall to others that often foul language or inappropriate behaviour is a consequence of frustration and is unintended Its why an apology is often the best course of action

With regard to foul language I often remind people of the context and intent There is no better example than the word bugger

In terms of the MFC-MCC supporter conversation, I always find it funny how people "bash" MCC members who support the Dees.

Pretty consistently, the MCC is quite full - often with MFC fans as was the case yesterday. If Melbourne has 23,000 supporters in the MCC, then I'd say about half of them attend most weeks.

If Melbourne has approximately 160,000 other supporters, I'd say about 10% of those attend most weeks.

Note: this is only my personal opinion and may be skewed because I sit within the MCC. Someone who sits in the Southern stand may have a better view.

Unfortunately the history of the football club is inexorably linked to that of the cricket club and that's a fact we must live with.

Yes it takes maybe 20 or more years it's well worth the effort.

I have a friend who became a member at the age of 68. He put his name down when he was 50! He reckons he has maybe 15 to 20 years of membership to enjoy!

If all our supporters in the MCC and AFL members who don't buy MFC memberships (not the $50 donation type) spent that money on MFC memberships the club would be in a much stronger position. My family used to be AFL Gold Members and are now Tridents members. The way the AFL treats us I couldn't support them anymore than I had to. If those in the MCC had the same thinking we would easily have 40K members and would be an extra few million dollars a year better off.

Not sure what you're getting at here? My point is if those with MCC/AFL memberships (who can't afford an MFC membership as well) bought an MFC Premium membership instead it would go a very long way to helping our club not only have more members but having more cash to invest in our club and team. The other issue is with regards to the "exclusivity" of the MCC which as pointed out is where a lot of our history is however this excludes many members/supporters and would-be members/supporters from being a part of the MFC.

MCC and MFC used to be the same entity...they split in the 70's or 80's.

I'm an MCC/MFC member. The MCC prides itself on history. I believe the MCC has started giving more to MFC.

What a nonsense - there a lots of other clubs that have their home at the G . The MFC offer lots of different levels of memberships and "clubs and rooms " like the redlegs etc with different levels of facilities that has nothing to do with the MCC. I would suggest that our attachment to the MCC plays zero part in influencing or attracting new membership.
