Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

GAME DAY - Round 2

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd kick off Gameday early so we can actually talk about footy instead of the other stuff that's been in the media.

I think it's fair to say there are a lot of pessimists around and probably rightly so after our last half last week and the sombre mood that seems to be pervading the club.

On the other hand, we have 22 blokes out there. What if everyone of them played at his best?

Here are the midfield match ups taken from today's Herald Sun:-

Cox v Jamar

Kerr v Trengove

Shuey v Magner

Priddis v Grimes

Gaff v Watts

Rosa v Jones

Then there's the second ruck of:

Naitanui v Martin

And if you compare attacks v defence, we don't match up too badly.

Yes, we need to be at our best and we don't have the star factor but I'm not buying into a 24 goal defeat either.

I was thinking this the other day, I'd like to see Martin "tag" Naitanui if that is possible with ruckmen.

I agree. He has the athleticism to go with NicNat and if he does, we have a tall enough defence to cover the Eagles forwards IMO.

Frawley, Sellar, Garland/Rivers, Martin vs Kennedy, Lynch, Darling, Cox/NicNat

I expect a win today, might not get it but i still expect it. Naitanui plays poorly against us for some reason.

What's the definition of insanity again? Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results.. :)

On a serious note, I refuse to believe we are incapable of matching it with teams like West Coast. I am not expecting a win - quite a way from that actually - but I still feel our list has enormous latent potential that just needs to be harnessed.

It's weird I always do as well no matter what reason says.

Run watts with naitanui.

I dont know why you would tag Natanui the limited possessions he gets are usually second efforts at the stoppage. The only difference for mine between us and West Coast is how well drilled they are and stopping Priddis and Kerr. Dont give them easy ball through the midfield and we should put up a decent effort.

It's not just against us. I don't understand why everyone rates him so highly. Averages just under 12 disposals a game 1.6 marks and 0.6 goals. The most impressive thing about him is his 3.6 tackles a game. Watts is beating him in everything but tackles and hitouts, yet everyone seems to think he's a dud.

I know it's going to be a tough day at the office. I hope can come away with something from this afternoon's match - maybe we can match our contested possessions from last week and finish in the positive against the Eagles, and we also up our workrate off the ball and get a big boost in our uncontested possessions.

We got thrashed from the first minute in the corresponding match at Subiaco last year. Let's see if we can stay in the contest till at least 1/2 time.

Given a choice i would prefer to start a season badly and end well, rather than the reverse. Go dees.

While I would be thrilled to pull off a win, I don't expect one and won't be all that worried if we don't get one. I just hope we show some improvement and some fight. If we give another insipid performance it could very easily be a 100 point margin. That's something nobody wants to see.

Who's everyone's tips for sub today? I know Ricky has been dubbed "supersub" in the past but I'd like to see him play the whole game. Bennell is probably my tip, although if Davey somehow ends up playing I'd love to see him come on as sub once everyone else has slowed down a little, would be great for his confidence if it went well.

Oh and if Sellar does line up at HF I'm actually excited to see how that goes, i like the idea of some stronger bodies around the forward line with Sellar, Clark, and Dunn hopefully working together.

Agree with you there. Bennell should be sub. If Davey does somehow end up playing, I won't be watching.

This is such a cliche these days. Everyone uses it and it drives me insane.

Stef out for Tom McDonald. Puts alot of pressure on Jamar. Bate sub again.

Bloody hell... Give Bate a go, why can't one of the inclusions be a sub?! Tough gig loosing Stef, gonna be verrrrry interesting having Clark, Sellar, and McDonald in the team... Clar will ruck a bit now I'm guessing while McDonald goes forward and Sellar may even take one of WC's tall forwards.... hmmmmm... intrigue

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
