Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

INJURY LIST - Round 2

Our injury list atmo, for Rnd 2.

Ricky Petterd (leg) - test

James Strauss (concussion) - test

Jake Spencer (knee) - 1 week

Lucas Cook (groin) - 2 weeks

Liam Jurrah (wrist) - 3 weeks

Colin Sylvia (back) - 3 weeks

Jordan Gysberts (ankle) - 4-6 weeks

-----------------------------------------------

Michael Evans (back) - indefinite

Neville Jetta (ankle) - indefinite

Rory Taggert (back) - indefinite

Max Gawn (knee) - season

I wouldn't take Petterd to Subi after a couple of weeks of soreness in the Legs. give him a week @ Casey to settle.

Same with Strauss. Only played one VFL game I think.

So the others have to come from last weeks Casey Team. Sellar, Couch, TMcDonald, Morton, Bennell ?

Frankston, Box Hill and Williamstown that's 3 to me. Week off almost could be a blessing in disguise.

I'd say that update is purely speculative, plus Gysberts isn't even on the list so taken with a half a grain of salt.

Possible that they got the Gys and Magner confused, I suppose.

Quite easy to do: same style, build, intensity.

In all seriousness though, I will be very surprised if Magner doesn't play this weekend. It looking like one of those injuries that will maybe hurt a bit after you do it and maybe the next day or two, but he's a tough cookie and I'm sure will be able to shake it off.

Yea they have rutten in there as injured during the preseason back in round 2 but he played last week and they have Rory Thompson from the GC in there twice with two different injuries...not sure I'm taking too much notice of this one...

Curious.

No Dan Nicholson and no James Magner on the injured list.

Nicholson missed last week but isn't on the injury list although at least on Internet poster has stated that he heard Nicholson say he was likely to miss another couple of games. He was seen a fortnight ago at Casey Field wearing a moonboot (& stating it was a precaution).

Right?

Magner limped off with what appeared to be an ankle injury.

One of these blokes is in line for the this week's Mystery injury of the Week come Thursday night!

How about the MIOTW award Jack?

It might provide I little light relief in what is shaping as a depressing year.

anyone know what 'hurting his ankle' means?

Sounds to me DC like he hit it with a hammer.

But Juddie's grandmother reckons he did on purpose so he could escape the trip to Perth.

But what would she know!

I hope none of these players use all these early career injuries as an excuse for poor performances later on in there career (Sylvia).

If it is an acceptable excuse then we should not be drafting players who may be prone to injury.

I would hate to see a 25 yr old Gysberts running around whinging about his poor possession count because he wasn't fully developed yet due to allot of injuries early in his career.

It feels like every year our injury list is quite substantial which then turn into excuses.

I don't recall Sylvia using early career injury as an excuse... do you have a link to this information?

Theres a video DC of Misson & Burgan, discussing the injuries. Said Gysberts is like Jettas but not as severe. Jettas I assume required a full reco of the Ankle.

Gysberts they said, wasn't as bad & they don't believe it needs surgery. 6 weeks is the outside estimate, hoping towards 4 weeks.

Strauss appears significantly under done given only one game to date after his horrendous injury

I hope so. I get no comfort from his absence from the injury list.

We dont know anything about his injury and his age may have little to do with it if the injury is serious.

Agree. We should have foretold the future and known he would have done his back. Bloody BBP! Here were the comments on his selection at the time. I am sure you felt otherwise but remained silent.

http://demonland.com...b-rory-taggert/

I'd be quite happy to see them take a go slow with Strauss, after such a serious career threatening injury. And it still is...

Thanks for the link (to an almost 2 year old article)... after reading that, I would argue that he was NOT using those early injuries as an excuse at all... he was stating facts and was using that time he had lost as an incentive/motivation to improve himself and indeed it was at about that time that he did start make big steps towards improving his game... osteitis pubis early in his career and more recently interruptions in the form of a broken jaw/cheekbone(?) and now a major back injury are hardly fabrications to be used as excuses - for some they would be almost career ending.

End of the day it is a 'reason' for slower development both mentally and physically.

Whether people want to call it an 'excuse' or a 'fact' or watever it is, its still the same thing and i hope that other players dont bring this up later on in there careers, guys like Grimes (who i dont think will as he is already exceptional), Gysberts (Could possibly), Petterd (Dont think he would either), Gawn, Taggart, Jurrah, Tapscott, Blease, Strause, Cook, Bail, Jetta, ect.

How are we constantly having a majority of our recruits off the park for so long when they are still infants in there career.

Only ones off the top of my head who i think have not had these issues are Trengove, Watts, Frawley, Jones, Howe and Bartram and look how far ahead of the pack they look already.

End of the day it is a 'reason' for slower development both mentally and physically.

Of course it was a reason!! Are you telling me that osteitis pubis would not hinder your development? Are you saying he should make no mention of this in an interview where would have been asked about such things? The main thrust of that article was that he was using those setbacks he cited as motivation to improve himself and he is spot on when he said it was time lost that he wished he could have back - it wasn't an excuse, it was a very honest piece of reflection on his part.

As I said, that article is two years old and the past two years have probably seen the biggest improvement in his game - so he was as good as his word. Unfortunately fate has intervened and he has been struck another injury blow... but I suppose you will take the view that he is likely to use that as a reason for any substandard performances he puts in later this year.... sorry, but I really do get sick of all of the unjustified rubbishing that players get on this site.

Read and think before posting.

My next post mentioned that i thought Grimes was exceptional.

Not allowed to talk about injuries in an injury thread now? If your going to make attacks without looking into things properly then you bugger off.

Its exactly what a certain fella at the AFL just did and look at the stir he kicked up.

You can post what you like, but unlike you, I am a more positive person and don't bag players every week

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
