Back him or sack him.

We have backed him now it is up to him to perform.Or get out ?

Posted (edited)

Watts, Jones and Davey = Whipping Boys Central!

Don't see the same threads for Green, Moloney or Blease

Can't see how Davey is responsible for non existent defensive work at Clearances, but there isn't a thread about that.

It is easy to individualise, but really, who are you planning on replacing him with, and would it/they make that much of a difference?

He is still the best kick in out team by a distance.

Don't forget he is a B+F winner, just in ordinary form (like most of the team!)

sack davey,

I still remember when he threatened to leave MFC

now he is getting paid ridiculous overs when he cant even have a decent game in the forward pocket.

Draining the club of its energy and money. If its not done now, he ll become the T$ of 2012 at MFC.

What sort of statement is that? Davey denies it, Neeld denies it, the Melbourne Football Club denies it.

Agree. but there you go.....

Back him or sack him.

I think we are backing him publicly.

We have backed him now it is up to him to perform.Or get out ?

So would you send him to Perth? Or if you dont what message does that send given the past week? And if Davey is guilty of spread lies what does the Club do about it? I would prefer it if he performed. The outcomes are easier to deal with.

Great you cant sack a player just like that! Refer the Capuano affair and remember there are employment laws to consider.

Your axe to grind is not a plausible basis for dismissal.

'Backing' him is more than just saying 'we believe him and the story is dead as far as we are concerned.'

If we believe him then let's show the AFL we believe him. Start by rejecting their councilling for Davey. Then ask for Mifsud's axing.

Backing someone isn't meekly letting them get used by the AFL for damage control.

Geezzz Does he owe you money??? has he killed one of your family members.???? Have you actually met him or know anything about him???. Or perhaps his slump in form has you so very upset.. I could list lot of players in our side that were worse

Posturing is just posturing. It's just strutting around puffing out your chest.

I don't see the value in fanning the flames. I'd prefer the fire to go out so Neeld and the team can get on with playing football.

You are easily impressed.

No I am not easily impressed, I just prefer to throw blame at the people who actually did nothing at all.

We can't drop 22 and there were worse offenders than Davey.

To repeat myself, Davey was bad on the weekend... But there were others who were worse than him.

The talk of sacking him is ridiculous.

If I had a problem at work and went and spoke to HR in confidence about not liking my manager, they then told the manager, who then sacked me, it would be a massive breach of confidentiality and unfair dismissal.

If Davey did have a whinge to someone big deal. I’m sure everyone has complained about their workplace at some time, especially with a change of management. Judge him on what he does on the field and around the club, not on private conversations.

Pick him on merit. If his form does not warrant selection, he is not putting in at training, or he is a bad influence around the club, drop him. .

Maybe this club needs to puff its chest out.

We don't stand for anything, says Andrew Demetriou.

And when our coach gets called a racist with leaked info from an AFL source, and when the info is found to be false - the AFL blame, and order councilling for, an MFC player they call a liar, and if we just 'move on'...

Then Demetriou is right.

Selection will be interesting this week. Neeld backs Davey 100% off the field... but if Davey deserves the sack for Round 2 for his on-field form will Neeld go through with it?

If Daveys form/slump warrants a jog in the Magoos I reckon that exactly what Neeld will do. Neeld is NOT about to let outsiders tel lhim what he does or doesnt do. . I would imagine he would use the opportunity to ram this very point home.

I hope you are right - we all look at the games from different angles but I firmly sit in the camp that he needs to play 2's until he shows more desperation. I do not have the expectation that he dives head first into big contested footy packs - that has never been his go. i want him using his assets - linking, taking the outside handball, leading up and spreading wide.

( there was misreport in the HS article - they called him a star - it has been a while since he was a star)

You are splitting hairs on allocating blame. Given his poor 2011 with big question marks, given he has lost his leadership role and given MFC were in need of a good crumbing forward, his effort for a player of his standing on Saturday was as poor. He'd needed to fire a shot and he was apathetic with minute cameos here and there.

I think that is right. Neeld needs pick or drop on the same basis he would do under normal circumstances. To do otherwise would compromised his stated values amongst the playing group. I think the only thing protecting Davey is that Blease was dragged at 3/4 time and we do need a small forward in Perth. Who will that be?

We have already been on the front/back of the HS the last two days.. if he gets dropped.. I betcha we will be back there on Friday with some bs story about how Neeld thinks Davey is a rat and thats why he is playing in the magoos.

At which point Neeld releases a statement outlining the TRUTH. That Davey has his full support but currently his form leaves something to be desired and some runs in the Two's to regain it will be the prescribed course

Neeld has already stated he doesn't know, nor care who the player is. He will select the side accordingly given who he and the match committee think is the best course of selection for the West Coast Eagles.

Correct he just repeats that mantra.

If Neeld wont select/drop a player because of what the press think, he should retire/resign now.

I dont think that will be the case.

I guess that is why Neeld has said he supports Davey off field. So it eliminates any conflicts that may arise when Davey does get dropped.

And like many have said, if Neeld has any integrity or is serious about us having a crack then plodders like Davey shouldn't be playing.

Will become even more disillusioned if Davey gets a gig this weekend.

I'd be amazed if he was dropped this week. Although clearly not the player he was, we desperately need a small forward and pace is critical at Subiaco. I can't think of anyone else on our list who could play the role Davey is being asked to play any better than him at the moment. As Rhino pointed out, Blease was subbed out last week so I'd expect him to be dropped before Davey - I'd play them both over there though.

Can anyone please explain the logic of dropping Aaron (or any other player for that matter) for poor form, then not making them play for Casey?? Is he in fact being treated differently, or specially, or whatever you would like to call it, than any other player? We're any other "dropped" players taken to Perth and not told to play at Casey? Was he being "protected from the media", and if so for how long??

How can he regain form sitting in a plane?

I am a bit bewildered.

Was hardly a normal "omission" event mono so i don't think it's really comparable to a standard omission in other weeks. Was he listed as an emergency? Maybe he had no choice

Could be wrong but seem to recall he was put through a hit out while over there post start of the match.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
