I think i know i solution to all our drafting problems

We don't have drafting problems, only people who have trouble grasping the realities of drafting.

Agree with the sentiments though - though perhaps I'd pass on the next Cousins! In regard to your list above, Adam Goodes went third round, at pick 43 ...

Saw Cook play in the VFL game against Collingwood last year at CHF. Kicked 4 I think and took several strong pack marks around the ground, he's got the goods.

Wasn't long after that he got injuerd and was out for the year. Lets just give him time.

Saw Lucas at my work the other week, seemed like a really nice guy.

What really surprised me though is how big he is (vertically). However, until he puts on a few more kay gee's we aren't really seeing his full potential. Darling had the physique to step straight into AFL footy.

So we obviously have the luxury of all the time in the world, like you know we have so many good players that we can wait 4 years to see if the skinny kids are any good

Lets hope the new football department have some idea at least and move on

Most posters know who amongst us thought the recruiting was good and who thought it was pathetic at the time

Not using the benefit of hind sight

Now we are hopefully going in the right direction underNeeld and he has my total support unlike P..sant Baily

Old Dee, you really do splash the bile about. I'm suggesting that you haven't seen him play because before being injured he was starting to show promise. He does need to bulk up but has a good footy brain if you watched the games last year and is a great set shot. Why do you insist on writing blokes off with 'I doubt he will be much use to the seniors this side of 2014' garbage.

Your posts are ill informed at best and deliberately negative at worst.

Similar to Rory, no longer on the injury list I noticed this week.

Fingers crossed he gets a start in the Casey development team this week and then into the Casey Seniors at CHF or FF asap.

I'm aware of that, and I'm a Howe fan through and through. It still doesn't justify Cook as a #12 pick.

I fairly certain if Tom Lynch were available Lucas Cook would not be on our list. They were keen on Tom

There were a few games at Casey last year where Cook showed strong hands and good goal-sense from long, accurate set shots. I see him as a Jarrad Grant type who won't be a pack buster but does have some footy smarts. He is by no means a lost cause. He will surprise a few here when fully fit.

Posted

I wouldn't mind moulding him into a key backman (he played CHB for NB a few times). His kicking is meant to be very good and lord knows we could use a few of those in our backline.

Posted

No point in judging Cook until he has an AFL ready body.Pointless exercise until then.

So given our problems with skinny kids whay not draft a ready made body its not as though MFC has the luxury of time after wasting 4 years in a problematic rebuild

We need players who can play leave the skinny kids for others they wont want them either

The demands have changed and recruiters must adjust Just like everything else at MFC we missed the boat

Jack Darling

I live in hope that the day will come when Cook lines up on and gives Darling absolute bath.

Until then...

I don't get why they don't put him in the gym and say " don't come out til you have put on 8kgs"

Has the footy talent. Needs the bod.

I haven't seen him for a while, but if he hasn't put on some considerable bulk I will dead set spew!

I think he will be a gun though. Has the potential to be better than Darling.

Get ready to spew Sloonie!

SawLucas at the races a few weeks ago, during the NAB cup. Pointed him out to my mate who's a Carlton supporter and he laughed at me. Said no way is that bloke an AFL footballer, he's way too skinny! This is during the preseason when they will at their biggest as they are in the gym 5 or 6 times a week!

Once again, every f*ing thread gets taken over by this mindless rear-view-mirror wisdom.

It's the nature of drafting 17 and 18 year olds - some turn out great, some don't, some surprise, some don't, some come on quickly, some don't, some rise to the challenge, some don't, some adapt to the rigours of AFL, some don't, some get injured and never quite recover, some don't, some deal OK with leaving home, some don't, some come off the rookie list to captain clubs and be champions, some don't etc. etc., blah blah blah.

Get over it. We took who we took.

in any case, these guys need at least 5-6 years before any kind of assessment, and I for one don't have any problem with Cook over Darling, which was a sensible, logical choice ... AT THE TIME.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
