What is this Skype thing? Please tell me more.

Not sure if your being facetious or honest?

Anyway, > http://www.skype.com/intl/en/home

Talk via the 'Internet' through a phone call like situation, through a microphone or a Headset, with, or without, WebCam...

I just talked to my neighbor setting it up & then he brought in a friend from the US, a 3way chat, or more than that if you wish. Conference call?

Would make the Team Selection fun... :)

If you like skype and want to chat with randoms might I suggest chatroulette.com.

That's if you like seeing people getting friendly with themselves every 3rd click.

???????????????????????

??????????????????????

What?

I'd like to chat with my friends on Skype, & with my footy friends as well on my footy Skype account. Voice beats soundless Typed abuse.

And still use d'land & d'ology as well.

Never worked out skype. Is there a good website or discussion board that can teach a beginner? I would like to use it O/S & i plan to travel this coming winter.

It's easy WYL. A technically savvy person like yourself will handle it easy. Easier than joining Demonland.

My Grandkids call me almost every night on skype whether we are here or overseas and it costs nothing except the cost of the wireless internet.

I have a son in Townsvile and we have a chat on the weekend, and at other times and once again costs nothing. You only need credits if you want to call from Skype to a phone line that doesn't have skype.

Sorry, I was being facetious, but I still do appreciate you taking the time to answer on the off chance I was being honest :-). I actually use it on my iPad when I'm traveling overseas...before i leave i purchase some credit on Skype for calls to landline/mobiles and then just pop into a Starbucks or similar place with free wifi, and call my home phone to talk to the family for next to nothing. Calls are always crystal clear.

yep. I've wondered about skype for years but I didn't know anyone who used it, so it went under the bridge. Till now, as I've moved interstate.

I think you can see I struggle to pick out a tone in text... I'm Not great with words, written. But seem to be able to differentiate re speech, the patterns & tempo's and tones to understand what a persons getting at.

Text forums are too open to abuse & misinterpretation.

Skype is sensational, & as you say cheap & clear as Alexander Bell.

I've used skype for about 5 years. It's a free, easy download to install. You get free skype to skype conversations, including video if you have camera & broadband & there's a fee for calling peoples telephones. I love it with friends & family at home since I moved to Los Angeles. You can make conference calls, but not sure how many will work at once. Cheers.

G'day to you too & thanks for replying! LA's getting nice now, coming out of winter. A lot of pretty girls do come here, often for the entertainment business, but I've been faithfully married most of my time here.

Apologies for my late reply, ...just now spotted your post so will adjust my preferences to know if someone quoted me in future :)

I'm O/S and use Skype to video-chat to family and friends back in Australia. Have never spent a cent on it and it is always very clear.

I think Apple computers offer a similar service called iChat, but I think it is only good for Mac to Mac calls.

You can get Skype (and MSN Messenger with video) for Mac OSX as well as for Windows.

Thanks Rob Mac, I hope business is good.

I've never been to the States, nor LA of course. Is it like 'Surfers', the weather?

I haven't been to Surfers since 1974, near when I moved to London, then to the US. I visit my family in Melbourne, but LA feels similar temp to Surfers, but drier & unfortunately more smoggy from what I remember then.

Your Dion tune is blocked from playing in the US, but I've played "The Wanderer" many times :)

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
