More injuries than I was expecting to see this far into NAB Cup. Big one's obviously Michael Evans out indefinitely, guess he just watches on in the stands for a year and then we let him go after that.

Rough way to end your career before it's even started.

A bit unnecessarily narcy i would have thought.

And by the by we'll see if that list is halved in two weeks - how often does a a 2 week injury magically blow out to a 6 week injury (see Jurrah, amongst innumerable other examples over the last few years Melbourne).

Also how did Evans hurt his back and why is it indefinite?

It's alright Sloonie, we can be friends again.

Dunno about Evans, think it's just one of those things. He's been nursing the injury since the few games he played last year and guessing it's just not getting any better.

What are our options with Evans? He had some promising games last year.

I know we can have one 3rd year rookie. But I would like Lawrence to have that spot.

Can we delist him and then re-rookie him and keep him for another 2 years?

It just amazes me that at this time every year we have a long list of injuries and several long term.

Disappointed to see Evans out for long term as I hoped for him to be my improver this year. Hope we can keep him at the club even if he doesn't play much this year. I think he is very talented.

This is the largest inhury list at this pertinant time that I can remember. Especially with back related injuries. Maybe the weights have got to some of the lads.Evans was training early, running laps etc..

Jurrah's injury not worrying me-he cannot sustain a long football season anyhow- so to be right in a few weeks suits him.Agree with Redleg- Evans is the one that concerns me- thought he could be a carrier of the ball.Hope he recovers shortly and shows his wares.

Not much, they dont perform the surgeries, simply organise for a specialist to do it

Last time I checked Surgery was not an exact science.

Sometimes some bodies do not respond in the hoped manner.

I would put this down to MFC luck.

When there are patterns it is not luck.

Melbourne seems to have had a bad run for a while now. I'd like to hope that it can be put down to the previous fitness staff and coaches, and we will start to see a change. Hopefully the high level of players unavailable it a hangover from the previous staff and players getting used to new training loads, and we start to see the patterns change as the year goes on.

Maybe start by recruiting players that dont have injury concerns as youngsters. That would be a good start.

Any fracture may fail to unite whatever is done to it initially . Further surgery , including a bone graft , usually needed .

While I expect this sort of nonsense in the tabloids, I have to say that I find it a little disconcerting that the "staff writers" (whatever that means) at the AFL site, see a need to sensationalise our injury toll by using a headline "Massive injury toll for Demons" and then go on to say we are fast "reaching crisis levels".

When we look at this "massive toll", there are in actual fact just six players who will not be available for selection in round 1 and of those, only one would have been a monty for selection (Jurrah).

Leigh Williams (back, four weeks).

Aside from rookie Evans, the long term injuries mean that Magner and one other (assuming Spencil is listed as long term) will be promoted, and it would have to be said that Magner would probably have got game time ahead of any of Gawn, Spencer and Taggert even if they were all fully fit. Williams, being a rookie, was unlikely to be considered for selection in the immediate future anyway.

Great pity that Taggart is injured.He would have played first round. Gives the opportunity for Magner, Couch and Nicholson to fit out spots.

Yeah it is. And for it to happen in a dull scrappy game against GC at the [censored] end of a dismal season gives it added poignancy. I remember seeing him come of in discomfort and thinking hell i hope hasn't broken his wrist. The post match reports seemed to suggest it wasn't that serious but for it still to be an issue 6 months later is a big worry.

One positive is that he has been able to work on his aerobic capacity and i would presume his overall strength, at least in in his legs and core (obviously limited how much upper body work he can do). I don't reckon he'll take long to get his ball handling skill up to speed.

Make no mistake he is an absolutely key player for us. In a team lacking real a graders or players with an X factor a fit, firing LJ is vital
