Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In the past he has been a reliable solid player but not a game changer, i think that will change this year, and it will catch some teams off guard.

I remember reading before he was drafted that he lead his side in the TAC cup as the most dominant player on the field.

Itching to see some of that in the AFL because he definitely has the confidence and will be much more used to the tempo and speed by now.

the Hawks midfield has some solid performers and I guess trenners game will be affected by the support of our core?

I agree, though i think Neeld has some good midfield smarts about him (based on his past) and may have some good contingencies up his sleeve.

Good variety of players at his disposal also.

probably need to refer to the squad as in the other thread, but hoping Trenners can lead the team to victory

Is JT carrying an injury? Osteitis pubis, perhaps? There's no run, no lift when he tries to jump off the ground and no power in his kicking. Looks a lot like Luke Ball when he had OP - all guts, but unable to deliver the quality we are used to.

He does look slow out there, has no burst at all. Was never a speed merchant but I don't recall him being a slug either.

There's no lift when he jumps because our coach put the weight of expectation on his shoulders by making him a co-captain.

This is where the "Like This" button is unhelpful. I need an "I agree, but I don't have to Like It" button because your point is well made. To say I "Like This" may give the wrong impression.

How does giving someone the captaincy decrease their leg speed? Interesting logic but I'm sure one of you will find a way to explain it ...

When you are under pressure to perform RR, and if you are putting extra pressure on yourself, which I have no doubt Jack will be doing, you lose confidence if things aren't going how you want them. It can get to a stage where you have convinced yourself that you are operating at 100%, but might only be operating around 80-90%.

Let's not forget, the kid is in his third AFL season, he was crucified by the umpires last year and that had some impact on his game. He is now seen as a leader at the club, when let's face it, while he has got leadership qualities he out of anyone has to work the hardest to lead successfully so early in to his career. As he is considered one of our better players, he is no doubt being tagged (I don't see what happens off the ball - someone could keep an eye on that and let me know how much other teams are working him over).

Personally, I'd like to see Jack starting in the centre square more often, and basically be given a licence to do what is natural for him. I have no doubt he can be a game breaker, but at the moment, he is looking far from a number 2 draft pick. But, Neeld is so determined on teaching this team the basics of defending, which he claimed they have never been taught, I can't see any of our players being given the opportunity to play with the creativity that has happened in the past. I hope he knows what he is doing.

I'd hate to think what's going on in his head at the moment. What a time to have the burden of being Captain thrust on your shoulders. He knows that as Captain it is up to him to provide the leadership that is so desperately missing especially as the team is performing so badly at the moment. But like everyone else he is still learning how to be a player and the new gameplan etc. The pressure he must be feeling must be massive. I still think it was too early to give him this burden. A lot of experienced players have had bad seasons when first appointed as Captain and that can be in teams performing well. This one is in a deplorable state at the moment and there is a distinct lack of onfield leadership from anyone to lift the team when it starts to fall behind. Not that that alone would be enough at the moment but it would help. I thought Beamer's return gave us a lift in the middle when it mattered. But too little too late.

I started a thread last year talking about his lack of pace, tonight he was run down by Goddard. He needs to work on his first five steps urgently otherwise he will go backwards. Yes, not all great players are quick but it is seriously hampering his ability to impact games.

Groin by the looks of it, or maybe OP.

He has no power.

Maybe adductor surgery booked for the offseason?

Looks like he has OP. He cannot push off and accelerate and he has no penetration in his kicking. Some of his set shots this year have been embarrassing. He's my favorite player, but he is definitely playing injured. If he weren't captain and we weren't on the ass end of the ladder, he'd be resting or running round in the VFL.

I made this comment after attending the swans match lat week. He has definitely lost a few yards from last year. Is it because he has bulked up? I don't know, but if he is injured I don't understand why we are risking playing him! Still, he had a far better match today than the past few weeks.

If he is injured they have to get him off the park, it isn't doing his confidence any good at all. Grimes can lead alone for a while, I think he is doing well so far.

I think he is only two or three kilos heavier so shouldn't be that.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
