Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Barry Prendergast gone

In MFC I trust . Thanks and good luck Barry.

Obviously things go on out of view. Everything has its season and now this one has ended. So be it.

All a bit odd though ...but hey life goes on.

Remoulding continues

Pretty late for a change in recruiting now, seeing as though Barry may have had certain players he was gonna look out for this year but then again another one of many axings?? in the MFC. I wonder who we will pick up, any good recruiters anyone?

Apparently, a move has been on the cards for a while.

BBBP following in the footsteps of Ron Barassi, Peter Smith, Greg Wells, Mark Riley, Brock McLean and Chris Johnson and will cover the forward scout position left vacant by Brett Munro's move to Gold Coast.

He's done a very good job at the club but it was probably time to move on. For those posters concerned at the timing, the national draft is in November and any realistic candidate would need to have a working knowledge of the draft pool available so when is it a better time to change the position?

Whatever, I doubt very much whether it's going to change our first pick in November.

I don't think Mark Neeld want Barry prendergast in MFC?

and Barry resign because of that.

Or because he wants to advance his career?

There's always a million reasons these things could be, I never understand why people always look for the biggest conspiracy theories first when there's usually more simple answers.

I suppose it seems odd, But only in terms of timing. Once the Rookies were in the bag the big job of the recruiters is over for the year. It would have made some sense that Barry packed upand went then as the Caoching caousel seemed still in full rotational mode. So he goes now with a view to coaching... or whatever. It really doesnt matter. Theres still a whole swag of our recruiting in pllace , am sure another more than capable replacement will be sought and got and the world keeps turning.

No club ever keeps everyone.

Go Dees

If the guy wants to move on to new challenges, good luck to him.

Good job, well done. Thank you.

No surprise here. You just had to read between the lines of his interviews during draft time to see he may not have had as much control as previously.Timing on this is probably good for both him and club. I think most of us could have achieved what he did with his top 5 picks but I think over coming years his expertise will get acknlowledged with the development of less conventional picks as Gysberts, Howe and Gawn.

All the best Barry.

Quit (booted?) and joining Carlscum.

Given the arse because he's crap or because it's time?

He's already worked at two other clubs before Melbourne. He's been at Melbourne for four years. What do you expect ... that he'll stay at Melbourne for the rest of his life?

And where is the actual info that he's been "sacked"?

No doubt BP was peived last draft- Neeld basically took over telling the recruiting staff what to get.BP had put in a lot of work when he deemed it was not necessary.

That too, but I can't blame Neeld for coming in and insisting we select what he saw was needed.

His job isn't to keep BP happy.

That said, BP has been very good for us in the past.

We were able to secure some decent players late in every draft he oversaw.

A senior coach relies on 2 people the most - Recruiter and fitness man. I actually called this many months ago in trade week when I said our list decisions so far have reflected Neeld being very conservative with draft picks and not giving Prendergast too much to work with. That was reflected in the national draft and rookie draft. Maybe that is still reading too much into it but I think this would be a pretty mutual decision by both parties.

I'm not sure who the number 2 recruiter at Collingwood behind Hind is but I wouldn't be surprised to see him appointed pretty shortly. Oh and the timing is perfect, this is a recruiters quietest time in the year. There are no games to watch or draft camps or drafts for months. If Neeld axed him before the drafts this year then that would have been crazy.

Spot on.

And I thought the "Conspiracy theory" thread was stupidity / madness at the time, but you were bang on with that too.

Whatever, I doubt very much whether it's going to change our first pick in November.

If we activate our compo picks and finish in the 8, would not our first pick be the mid round compo pick that we don't have to use to acquire Jack Viney? i.e. we could get Jack with our regulation first round pick..?

Those questioning the timing... think it might somehow be linked to the timing of the Carlton position becoming available? Just maybe?

I think it's more that everyone's Christmas dinner is well & truly digested, the new year has begun and we've recalled players from summer holidays to begin the New Season.

The timing is very good for us IF there is a good time, but they say change is Inevitable, just like climbing a ladder, changing feet one @ a time.

Ed it: Oops, unless you unfortunately a Saint supporter, where they try to climb moving only one foot. They don't like to change U see. LoL.

Whatever the reasons for his departure, he must go with the "thanks and job well done" tag. Agreed you don't have to be Einstein to pick great players when you have very early picks (some clubs have still stuffed this up!)but his legacy will be the astute selections later on in the draft and in particular some cracking rookie selections. As the club moves towards its 13th premiership and players such as Bail, Howe, Fitzpatrick, Jurrah, Nicholson, Tom Mcdonald, Evans, Davis, Gawn, Taggert, Tynan and Sheehan come to the fore, Barry's name will resurface and people will want to shake his hand!

I made the point that Taggert and Tynan were the only players chosen by Prendergast at the last draft. The other 6 players plus Clark were recruited by the FD and Neeld.

I am not saying it is right or wrong, but I am saying that it would leave a taste in the mouth that would warrant a career rethink.

My personal opinion on how we drafted this year is that it should be done like that in the future: stop picking speculative kids at around 50 in the ND and go for proven older players at state leagues or recycled players from then on.

But this is a different argument to the news today...

I still don't believe he left because Neeld 'forced him out' but I do think that the leash he was on in November and December contributed to his departure.

It would be great if the club could poach Stephen Wells from the cats. He has a great track record with picks from early & late in the draft. Hes also been great at spotting great footballing talent opposed to what you might call athletic types or project players.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
