this got me curious, on the GWs site it shows photos of them running on an athletics track not around a park or on grass. Immediately behind Voldermort there was several players and the text says a couple of them came in close behind.

Whilst I am no expert running a time trial on a track presumeably with split times being given is a long way from running around the tan or princess park.

Maybe a little less sizzle in this sausage than advertised.

another photo of the group training looks like the under 16's.

Well yes the whole Time Trial could well have been photoshopped...nothing would suprise.

He's scum and I'll be quite happily maintaining the rage throughout the year but I hope we're not going to get a new thread every time he goes to the fridge or his sister gets another layer of terracotta colouring put on.

I'm the last person to believe everything that's said about Scully and his family but distrusting the word of John Quinn is a bit of a stretch. For one thing Scully has done times like that before and has excelled at a number of different forms of endurance testing in the past. What reason would Quinn have for lying?

He's from the giants, maybe its just the culture of the place.

WYL, you keep going....I'm with you.

His deceit and demeanour will smell for a long, long, time.

Cheers Jumbo. I will keep the flame burning don't worry.

Do you mean a bit like the group in your avatar, without the magnificent guernseys of course.

It's a long time since we have suffered such a painful off field humiliation. And this is another stinky chapter in the Scully saga. Are we passionate and emotional supporters? Not for us to play the issue with a straight bat. Thats up for the club to do. Some of the dryness coming from supporters on this issue perhaps reflects being all to used to and passive in accepting regular humiliations of all kinds.

Just as an addendum to the whole Tom $cully saga, I had to explain to a girl I had coffee with yesterday the whole T$ saga, as it came up in conversation and she doesn't really follow football at the moment...and at that point I realised just how pointless moping about the whole thing is now.

Let's just belt them Rnd 13 and be done with it.

The thing I take some comfort in is that it's not only Dees supporters who have a bad taste about the whole episode. A lot of non-MFC supporters also feel we got completely dudded.

What's more, many people seem to think that Scully isn't the sort of guy you would want your club to spend a lot of its cap on (ie, his character and his motivations are suspect). Better to invest time and money in players of Trengove's ilk, as they will bring so much more to the club, both on AND off the field. In short, players like Trengove can positively influence the culture of the entire club. Scully seemingly cannot.

The other great thing about this episode is that it's completely changed many people's view of the club. Prior to Scully's departure, I think a lot of people thought we were getting an unfair 'leg up' from the AFL - essentially because we were seen to 'tank' to secure the priority pick. We obviously no longer have that priority pick, and at no stage did the club actually derive any benefit from that priority pick - in fact, the way in which the Scully saga played out actually made it something of a millstone for us.

Add to this the disgraceful way in which we lost Scully to GWS. Now many people seem to think we were the innocent victim of an unfair system, rather than the undeserving recipient of the priority draft pick.

But here's the silver lining - we didn't actually lose anything. We desperately needed Mitch Clark. But for Scully's departure, there's no way we would have secured him. We also dodged a bullet in not paying a mercenary like Scully so much of our cap, which would definitely have resulted in us not retaining some other talented young players in due course. And we got two first round compo picks for him (same as Geelong for Ablett).

All good IMO. Makes me happy in fact.

And here's the rub for young Tom - he is simply going to love the professionalism of Laurel and Hardy (aka Sheedy and Williams) at GWS. Meanwhile we now have Neeld, Craig, Misson, Rawlings, Brown etc at the helm, arguably one of the best coaching teams in the AFL. If there's anything to make you laugh out loud, it's that.

Post-season 2011 is going to go down as one of the best ever in the history of this club. Mark my words.

Rev up fellow Demons!

It's going to be virtually impossible to let the "$cully" thing go . We are going to be constantly reminded about him by the media , his huge profile at GW$ , when he plays against us , how he goes in the Brownlow , his knee , his form , his father , etc etc etc . He is getting paid 2 million bucks in his 1st year and the media are going to be all over it .

I not sure commenting on him in a thread is bitterness at all . It's more letting off steam and wanting to know the real truth . None of us are absolutely sure what actually transpired in the deal so why not speculate ? When did he sign ? Were the AFL complicit ? Is his knee problem that bad ?

There hasn't been a sense of closure yet . That probably won't happen for quite some time . As an example , we will have to wait and see how our compo picks turn out to see if we got a fair deal .

I certainly don't feel bitter at all . I'm glad he is out of our Club . But it's not over with yet re the whole truth .

What needs to be put to bed is this wishful thinking by some on here that we have somehow "won" out of this fiasco. Get real! Any recruiter in the country will tell you they'd swap two mid-first rounders for the numero uno draft pick in a heart beat.

And again I'm with you WYL ... clearly there's not a whole lot wrong with the bloke's knee if he's belting out blistering times over 3km runs.

We got dudded, duped and ripped off. Let's not sugar coat it and pretend that we didn't.

That aside, in my opinion the far greater humiliation this club was on the end of in 2011 was this football industry wide slur that we play bruise-free football. Now that's something that should REALLY rankle us, and frankly we as a club only have ourselves to blame for it.

Until that problem is addressed at the MFC any amount of number one or first round draft picks won't make a jot of difference.

Posted

Spot on Range. I am not bitter about this at all as some think i am. I am glad to see the back of the $cully Corporation. But i do not like being ripped off and shafted in public as the MFC have been. So as more info seeps out comments will be made.

To run a fast time for 3k's one must have a fair bit of faith in that knee regardless of the direction. So how bad has it been all along?

$$$ talks.

I don't have anything to add other than when referencing the former Melbourne player, we should call him by the name coined by Cam

The GWS time trial was won by Dark Cloud

why are people still carrying on with this? he took the money and ran (quite quickly) and people need to let it go. imagine how many ron barrassi bashers there would have been back in the day if this site had existed. IMO there is more reason to despise bruce or mclean than there is for scully. at least gws has created an overnight millionaire. bruce and mclean bailed to go to clubs where they struggle to even get games now and i reckon they would both be close to our best 22.

haven't heard so much unconstructive whinging since nanna bligh got rid of the fuel excise, noones happy about the situation but you can't turn back time by complaining,

Get real!! RDB played in 6 flags, so not a good comparison. Nor is Bruce or Mclean, at least they bled for the jumper before leaving.

You are within your rights to forget the whole saga. But remember things forgotten quickly can happen again easily.

And...we have picked up a monster KPP forward, and lost a certainly morally and possibly physically suspect young mid.

LOL indeed ! GO DEMONS

The way I see it, the MFC has moved on and that's enough for me.

We have a new coach with many new assistants, many other changes to the football department including elite performance manager, David Misson, eight new players including a quality key forward in Mitch Clark and a new and different game plan.

As long as the club is focussed on the future without the dark cloud, then why shouldn't we have some entertainment at his expense?

No I reckon the blokes in my avatar are likely to just play for the love of the game and the guernsey.

I gotta agree. Running at a steady pace in a straight line isn't going to stress a knee as much as match conditions

Very true. I had a serious knee problem that finished my footy career. I took up track and field competing in 200m,400m and 800m events. Knee presented no problem because there was no sudden, twisting movements required.

All too true.

I guess I was referring to their youthful appearance.

For the love of God can everyone stop talking about Scully. He's gone, move on. He is of absolutly no relevance or concern to the footy club.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
