It will be interesting to see how this is played out. Collingwood was said to be under salary cap pressure this year and had to "lose" some valuable players this year. We know that GWS has a swag of room within its cap (Scully gets $2m in 2012 and only $1m in 2013 - that alone frees up $1m). Assuming the Pendlebury camp hasn't already accepted a GWS mega deal in the October window of opportunity then he'll certainly receive one soon (and possibly his pet dog is about to become the AFL's highest paid club mascot too!). Eddie' s reaction will be worth seeing.

I'm aware that GWS has salary cap concessions, but do you or does anyone else know exactly how much and for how long these concessions are in place?

It will be very interesting to see what happens when all GWS's young players come out of contract.

Yeah, I get the feeling that teams like GWS and GCS are going to be hit badly by the "home sickness" factor.

I think GWS moreso than GCS, since GWS is a much more undesirable place to live. It would be hard to not enjoy life on the Gold Coast, and being professional footballers I think many of them will realize that it comes with the job.

Just heard on SEN Pendles dad say he would be a Pie for life. All this is a beat up

So Pendle's dad's just been offered a position as head caterer to the recruiting officer?

If you believe that after what we've all experienced this year, then you haven't learned anything.

He works on oil rig so has 6 months off every year, so would be perfect to watch games and be a recuiting officer

A bit like Mitch Clark maybe. Money talks and GWS will have the same amount as other clubs soon enough. Whether GWS turns out to be the basket case many are suggesting (or hoping) will determine who wants to stay and go more than coin I reckon. Interesting to see if their top players do in fact take a cut to get outta there.

I know one for sure who will not!

I heard that too, sounded like a really nice guy. He maybe telling the truth, but $$ can talk. Let's just watch this play out. Pendles statement yesterday was very wishy washy

I agree with Eddie's aggressive approach.

Eddie is a disgrace. He made these comments on his radio show............. how does he front a national football channel (Fox Footy) as someone supposedly interested in promoting the game when he has threatened to destroy an interstate club. His continued unwillingness to recognise that he has a fundamental conflict of interest is shameful

For once - although I hate GWS - I absolutely agree with Sheedy for having a crack at.him

Eddie - you are either President of one club ... or a balanced media personality. You cannot be both

I heard Sheesds response to Eddie's outburst on radio. Eddie is a fool on this one, he should have stayed absolutely quiet. It was he who got the $cully saga rolling on the very same show. He is responsible for all the heat it brings on his own club. Eddie doesn't learn & this time I think he will get bitten. Sheeds may be senile to some, but he could still eat Mc Chins for breakfast with AFL backing.

Should have shut it Ed, but it's too late now.

WJ your arithmetic is wrong - $cully will only get $800K for each of the last 5 years of his 6 year $6M contract. This leaves GW$ with at least $1.2M extra in salary cap PLUS the retirement of its assistant coaches on Junr, Cornes Brogan etc will free up more $$$$. It will be good to see Eddie suffer.

Would have happened anyway.

this way the faithfull see him going in to bat for the Pies.

I will be very surprised if the deal is not already done just like last year.

Eddie knows that too.

As long as he's coming out of contract this will alway be a question from reporters and Eddies swipe at GWS won't help matters.

There are ways of doing things O.D.and regardless of whether a deal has already been done McChins has shown his hand way to early IMO, not that I care!! Bring it on!!

M Chinn has stated through the media that Eddiewood will be aiming for 100,000 members by creating a "love us or hate us" campaign, I think this is the start of a carefully thought out campaign. By encouraging the "common" Eddiewood supporter to start crying and join up.

Not sure that Eddie is on the wrong path.

The Pies just made 3.8 million profit

They will probably have 80 000 members next year.

They will win the GF or will go very close.

They will give us a licking in 2012

So far in that story I cannot find too much wrong in what eddie is doing as President.

WE should be doing that badly.

Don't disagree with any of the above OD but as far as Pendles goes I think he has gone too hard too early. Time will tell & we shall all observe.

I think Pendles is gone and it doesn't matter what Eddie says.

Hopefully by June it will be racking the pies and we can pull a surprise win.

Not so sure. Malthouse, Neeld, Watters all gone ... new first-year coach, been to the well one too many times? Interesting that Rawlings had the choice between Pies and Dees and chose us.

Sure, Eddie has done well, but they're the Man U and Barcelona of AFL, so it's not all that unexpected.

Will not matter they have a very good playing group.

Similar things were said about Geelong this time last year and they won the GF

Because they have good players who are committed to the job.

Pies are the same.

Could we get him by swapping a first rounder?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
