Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Players who will thrive under Neeld?

PRIME

Recommended Posts

.....Cale Morton is far and away the most bagged Demon. This is mostly because he has been labelled as 'soft'. I believe that Neeld's no-nonsense approach will either make or break Cale, but with Misson on board he should be able to significantly bulk up, and I think it is likely he will become a very good player for the MFC. He has the tools, he just needs the guidance.

The player I'm going to be watching the most closely this year, though, is Col Sylvia. For too long he has been able to get away with not playing to his ability, not taking professional footy seriously, and being a 'passenger' in most games against top 8 sides. Neeld has shown that he isn't going to take any **** from Col by already suspending him for one game. I think this will be a major wake up call to him, and he will work harder and become a potential Bluey winner in 2012 as a result of Neeld's hard nosed attitude.

Couldn't agree more re Cale - it should be definitely his 'make or break' year coming up. Your confidence "...think it is likely he will become a very good player for the MFC. He has the tools, he just needs the guidance...." will, I expect not be widely shared. You say he has the tools - certainly not the body, or the oomph!

I also agree that this will be Col's make or break year.

For too long both the above have 'got away with' inconsistent efforts and performances.

If Neeld is to retain his widely accepted credibility we will need to see these two put up, regularly, or be shown the GPS coordinates for Berwick-Cranbourne Road until they do. I doubt if they willl be offered third chances - maybe seconds but not thirds.

I agree with make or break comments regarding Cale, although i think that all Col lacks is consistency at his best for longer. He is one of out best players but could be one of the leagues best if he can become consistent at a higher level...

He will always have a spot imo playing at his current levels, Cale will not have a future playing at his current levels

You're absolutely right. Neeld needs to find a way to change his attitude and make him have a desire for the ball. Will be very interesting to see if this can be done.

I think Morton moves really well and just manages to find the ball, if you watch his highlight reel from this year its not as bad as some of the things people say about him. Can potentially be a very handy wing/hff.

Fine, nothing wrong with the way he moves....maybe he should aim for the olympics? 400m?

The hightlight reel is fine....its the lowlight reel that is long and disturbing.

I think Neeld would really want to have a strong impact on the top 6 to 10 players on our list. Get them moving toward being "stars" or well above average footballers. Its only then will MFC improve. And as these players improve they will make others around them better than what they are.

Too many what Neeld to have phoenix like impacts on fringe players. And he may well but some of those mentioned even if they play at their best will still find them as mid range NQRs.

Must have been in another life. Johnson could always kick 60 mertres on the run hardly a candidate for worst kick in the AFL.

Agree with both points but who are the 6 to 10 players you think he should concentrate on?

I think- Frawley, Grimes, Trengove, Jurrah,Morton, Nicholson, Sylvia, Watts, Gawn &Tapscott. Not necessarily all top players now, but the nucleus of building for a premiership team.

At Collingwood, they managed to turn the worst kick in the league into a reliable (although awkward) kick - Ben Johnson.

Therefore I would hope to see the ordinary kicks improve out of sight and even the players where kicking isn't their strength make noticeable improvement.

Bartram, Grimes, Bail, Nicho, McKenzie, Petterd, Joel Mac, Martin, Fitzpatrick, Spencil etc

If he can turn Bartram into a serviceable kick then we'll win the flag in the next 2 years, cause if he can do that, then the man can work miracles!

The players that will probably do best under Neeld will be those that win a lot of contested footy. Last season our best contested possession winners were Moloney, Trengove, McKenzie, Jones, Sylvia and Bail.

Bartram wins contested ball, so will probably do quite well. I think ball winning will be at a premium, even at the expense of silky kicking skills.

Mono - Without question the lowlight reel is long... very long, but surley there is still potential there, without knowing too much about anything that goes on in house, maybe its just morton isnt up to it, or maybe he will do as this thread sudgests and thrive under a new coach, fingers crossed, but i would love to see more of evans anyway...

Only time will tell, and I am sure he only has this year to prove it. Unless he really hits his straps 2012,meaning becoming one of the first selected every week, I doubt he will be here 2013.

All very well to talk of 'potential' - like Newton for seven long years?????

I believe Daniel nicholson will have an outstanding season next year

This kids looks amazaing

in nearly every article about someone training the house down his name has come up

and his leadership has already been talked about

he might not be a star in the future but he is exactly what we need and I'm glad we have him

Players that have earned a pass mark under Neeld me thinking I know how Neeld thinks are:

Clark

Jones

Nicholson

Grimes

Frawley

Howe

Rivers

McKenzie

T McDonald

Watts

Any wonder we're 2-15?

Fixed!

FWIW I reckon Neeld would have Sellar, Trengove and some others as pass marks. Also depends on the definition of a pass (which is completely different than asking if they have had a better year this year to last.)

Has Jack Watts thrived? To me Jack Watts has been extremely dissappointing, OK he has done well playing down back but this guy was drafted as a forward, in a year that we have been crying out for forwards Jack Watts is playing mainly as a sweeper down back. All our back 6 get a lot of footy it is down there enough. Watts had a run of games last year at CHF which to me are still the best games at the club, putting him down back hopefully will teach him something but I want him back forward next season.

If we talk about thriving, you have to improve, to me only 4 players have improved Jones, McDonald, Grimes and Howe. It will be interesting how Sylvia bounces back after his first real poor performance in the last month, if we plays 3-4 more good quality games you can say he has had his most consistant year.

But McDonald and Grimes have been playing in the backline instead of the forwardline and the midfield, respectively. By your logic, they too have been extremely disappointing. Could it be that you are holding Watts to an unrealistic standard?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
