Who do you think will thrive under him? Personally I think Ro Bail will do well.

Bail, Jones, Morton, Watts, Gawn, Martin. Guys who will benefit from a definite role to play and a harder fitness regime.

Morton? Haha. You joke surely.

For some reason, I think Bate is going to impress us all next year. Or maybe I just like the thought of it being a great story. Either way, Bate is my smokey for this award.

I was going to list the players that I thought seemed lost because their role seemed undefined. But it's easier to list those who had a clear role: Jamar, Moloney, Rivers, Frawley, Garland and McKenzie (and to a lesser extent Watts). Everyone else seemed to be chopped and changed - and they are the ones who I think will benefit.

Jesus I hope Morton does, he cops so much on here, even in threads that don't even concern him.

What are you getting for Christmas?

Don't know but hope it's not a Morton.

Yeah I've got this random feeling as well, I don't think he had any confidence under Bailey (not Dean's fault, Bate played poorly for most of this time) but I reckon with a clean slate and a defined role could see him get back in the team.

Other than Bate I reckon Bail, Jones, and Petterd will take their games to the next level under him.

I hope Bennell but he has to average more than 5 possessions a game

To be fair - you can play well and still only get 5 possies.

Once in a blue moon, Cyril in the GF, Butcher 6 kicks 6 goals. To be fair, they were 6 possie games...

Bennell needs to average more than 10 possies a game or he's going nowhere.

Gysberts. Fitness is what he needs, it's what he's getting. Neeld can influence him like he did Pendles.

Morton. There's no grey area here, Neeld will make or break him. I think a defined role is what he has always needed, if he gets that he'll thrive.

The Fish, Clark. Permanent forward in his own, structured forward line. Will deliver.

Trouble is his tackle count was down there too I just don't think he played well enough to justify selection

Posted

Jones - the gap between his strengths and weaknesses will be less and less

Moloney - I expect him to go to the next level (could be in Top 3 of the Brownlow in 2012)

M Clark - Untapped ability, and will be a top pick up

Watts - Actually having a target to reach (through his work with Misson, and knowing what Riewoldt does). Jack is a determined young man, he will thrive.

I agree with the Bate predictions...I thought we had lost the Master, and i am glad he is staying...He does have talent, i hope now he has the right Teachers.

Jack Watts is the other one....Dave Misson will be the Watts Mentor...Jack will become elite.

Nev Jetta. Not the most gifted bloke on our list, but is an honest worker and will be prepared to do whatever he's asked. I could see Neeld taking a liking to Nev.

Agreed on Jetta

I also see Bate in the same catogory as he always seems to be trying to give his all and do the team things.

Olddee's mate, #7, shoud also show a bit more if he is given one role to focus on (forward or backline, not both).

imposters like Dunn will either flourish under a new coach or be further found out and kicked to casey!

Its fair to say they will all improve to a greater or lesser degree, sort of a blank canvas.

Very exciting for the future for what they will be able to do when fit enough!!!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
