Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Still one of the best tap rucks out there.

I see a transition to Gawn in a few years time as first ruck but that should take care of itself hopefully.

I don't want to see a 23 year old Gawn leave because a 32 year old Jamar is keeping him out of the side.

But, on the other hand, a 32 year old Jamar would be handy when we are challenging...

We'll see how his body holds up.

What were his stats re tap to advantage? He often got his hand to the ball, but I felt this year that most of them went the wrong way. Whether that was him, or that those at his feet couldn't get the job done, I dont know. Good but not great 2011.

Interesting you think so because the exact opposite is true for 2011 Jamar is one of the best:

HO HTA %HTA %EffHTA

Jamar 29.2 12.1 41.4 50.9

Cox 28.0 10.5 37.5 44.8

Jolly 24.8 9.8 39.5 54.0

Mumford 32.8 12.8 39.0 50.1

Rush had a solid season without reaching the highs of his AA year (if 2010 was 9 out of 10, this year was probably around 6.5 imo). He seemed to have less impact around the ground and was certainly less telling when resting up forward. More importantly however, his tap work seemed less influential, perhaps because he is becoming more predictable to opposition mids (although he continued to have an excellent understanding with Beamer). I may be wrong, but it seemed to me that he may have lost a bit of spring post-PCL, or at least lost a bit of confidence in the knee. This, plus the loss of match-fitness during his 7 weeks out, would be part of the reason he didn't have the season we were hoping for.

Edit: spelling

Looked like he couldn't get off the ground at the end of the year. Hoping his body allows him to return to his best in 2012.

His injury early in the year was a blessing in disguise as it allowed both Martin and Gawn to thrive under the added responsibility, but ultimately you'd still prefer to have your best ruckman on the park.

Heres hoping a full recovery stand ups to solid preseason. Jamar will stil lbe our pivotal ruck for a while to come. Max will get his time in the sun. Undoubtedly some role shareleading to transition as time goes on.

He and Beamer early on in season 2011 were like milk and cookies, tom & jerry, rocky and bullwinkle, torvil and dean....you get the drift.

Very good tap ruckman, great on his day and when he went down, Beamer couldn't wait for his return. As Nasher stated above, whilst absent it proved a blessing in disguise for Martin especially to come into his own with confidence and game time and the introduction of Gawn.

I hope M.Jamar has a good off-season and a injury-free and fit season in 2012.

IMO is to trade off Jamar to Adelaide after this season while he would still have decent value.

SOme may disagree but we have martin, gawn, fitzy, even pencil spencer incase of injuries...

In saying that another year like 2010 and he could be a big player in the premiership race for the demons...

Unless he wants to go, I think we should just keep him and we might find the careers of Jamar and Gawn compliment each other and in 3 years time Jamar might be near the end as The Gawn Decade © begins.

And even if Jamar is still at the club, it doesn't mean Gawn cannot be first ruck or play ahead of him. I just think that Jamar is such a great tap ruckman that I would like to have him show Gawn how to go about it.

As someone ("furious d"?) said in another thread, trading someone just because their currency is at its highest is the dumbest of the dumb ideas. Jamar is still young enough to be part of our premiership side, so as long as he remains better than Gawn then he remains in the side. If he later becomes surplus to requirements then by all means trade him, but we're not there yet. Obviously he'll have less currency then, but he'll also be less important to us.

Some people are getting way too excited about Gawn right now. Jamar is still far better than Gawn and will be for the foreseeable future. I think Gawn is a really exciting prospect but he's still a long way off, so let's not count our chickens before they hatch.

Jamar is streets ahead of all other ruckmen at Melbourne and at least half the ruckmen in the comp (many put him in the top 4/5). I don't think anyone would dispute that. Gawn atm is just a promising ruckman with plenty of time up his sleeve and learning the caper.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
