If you look at it in that sense, yes, he has but it was all a part of the same period of Tuck's life. If we accept that after losing his place on Hawthorn's list, he knuckled down and rehabilitated himself, now is the time for that second chance.

Yes I tend to agree with that view. His case also differs from Fevola and Lovett in that he doesn't appear to be a serial nong whose actions hurt others as well as himself.

I'd like to see him get another chance.

I'd like to see him (Tuck) get another chance and I'd like it to be at Melbourne. The rookie draft is always a gamble, but at least with Tuck we're guaranteed to gain a bit of maturity and experience to our list.

I know the same could be said about Fev and Lovett; but personally those 2 disgust me, and regardless of talent, I never want to see them in a Melbourne jumper.

People on this site need to get there head out of there ass.

Firstly Trav Tuck was pinned using GHB. Not ice, crack or anything else the above posters clearly know nothing about.

If it was buddy or hodge who got sacked you lot would go find your local dealer to get them in the side.

If he is good enough he gets on the list, if not he doesn't - simple.

GBH is a killer drug.

Not entirely sure what the point of this sentence is. ^^

Regardless of anyone's personal opinion of drugs; if tens of thousands of members are forking out their hard earned to support a club, they have every right to have a certain expectation of the players and their commitment.

With Travis Tuck it isn't as simple as, "If he is good enough he gets on the list, if not he doesn't"

why not?

its this thinking that keeps Fev off lists despite kicking bags in the VFL.

if he's got his [censored] together and says he's clean and healthy and dedicated to the MFC then why not pick him up as a rookie?

that is of course dependent on if he is good enough.

seems to me that if bate and taggert (nicho, tappy, petterd maybes) are going into the midfield then we could probably hold off

until next season when we get viney and co. using our compo picks in a much richer draft pool.

despite what i just wrote, would prob take nelson and/or sheehan ahead of almost all other options

There's your question and answer right there. The very fact he has to plead his case and prove that he has his [censored] together proves that he is no ordinary player trying to be drafted.

I do agree though, that if he is good enough he should be given the chance.

Also, Fev is at the end of his career and has been given the boot at not one, but two clubs, for consistently stuffing up. Fev & Tuck = Apples & Oranges.

Travis Tuck? The 'Iceman'? Come on. Any player who has the talent to play at the top level and throws it away by using is a complete idiot. We have had great luck in unearthing talent via the rookie list that may have missed their chance due to an injury or bad luck. But instead we look at a guy who had his chance but wasted it by shooting up and not putting in the hard yards on the track.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he gets his life back on track and finds a way to enjoy footy and perhaps even make a career out of it again. I just don't think it should be at the expense of one of our rookie list spots.

The problem I have with this view is that it lacks objectivity. If you remove players who make life mistakes from your thinking A. You don't have many players left to choose from and B. You don't choose the best person or player for the job.

Depending of course on who else may be available, IF and only IF the inevitable face to face with he coaching panel convinces them that he has changed his ways and really wants to commit, surely a rookie selection is low risk with at least potential for high gain.

If not, well I am sure that he won't be missed.

I was wondering what had happened to Travis Tuck and about the fact that no club seemed to be interested in him.

Apparently, we still are - Dons set to draft Liston winner.

Melbourne is tipped to take a punt on former Hawthorn midfielder Travis Tuck. Paul Satterley, an assistant coach at the Demons, was a big fan of Tuck when he coached Werribee last season.

Tuck was the AFL's first player to register three strikes under the code's illicit drugs policy. His manager, Liam Pickering, said he was optimistic Tuck would find a new home as a rookie.

And good luck to Shane Valenti. He's such a hard worker - he really deserves another chance!

I was wondering that myself, especially with Satterly on board.

Is he still training with werribee? I haven't noticed him with us.

'The Sunday Age' this morning reports that Melbourne is interested in signing ex-hawk Travis Tuck as a rookie in this Tuesday's draft.

Tuck registered 3 strikes under the AFL's illicit code policy. The report indicates that our forward development coach - Paul Satterley - is a fan of Tuck.

25 yo former Demon Shane Valenti may also get rookied by Essendon.

There's a thread on the Trengove Draft site.

The article was written by the Age's VFL writer. He could have inside information on Tuck or alternatively, he's based what he's written on old news. If it's the latter, his journalism is sloppy.

I hope we take a punt on Tuck, because I see little downside to the selection. But those wondering about him getting another chance may have to realise that there's a pretty good chance that he just isn't good enough.

I heard he trained for Werribee last Friday and hasn't spoken to any club as yet !

I would like us to pick this guy tomorrow.

I agree but I'd take Fev as well, but BP can't take them all.

Posted

If we were keen to draft him then why wouldn't he be training at the club?

I doubt there is any other clubs looking at him. Wouldn't we want him to get as much training into him as we could?

Ducks and drakes perhaps? Sometimes it's in your interests not to be 'too interested'.

He ticks some good boxes Travis. 188cm, 88kg, 24yo, strong body, hard at it and seemingly determined to give his all.

We need more size, strength and quality in that 23-25yo age group.

Would actually also be happy to see Valenti re-rookied by the MFC, particularly if it disrupts Essendon's plans.

No!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't that mean you're disrupting both clubs?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
