Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Without wanting to criticize any of our players, who do you expect will be on the trade table/delisted over the next few weeks? (more interested in discussing who we think will be moved on, than any disrespectful pots at players we think deserve to go but we know will stay please)

As and example, IMO I expect either Bate or Dunn are likely to be moved on, but not both. Both can fill similar roles, but neither are in our best 22. Keeping one for back up to Pettard, Jurrah, Watts, Green if injured is ideal, but the second would be superfluous. Bate played a few good games in early 2009 (or 10...it's a blur) before being injured, and would be great if could get that form back. Dunn showed some good passion this year, and some diversity in the roles he can play. Thoughts?

Who else to we expect to see departing?

Would like to see Bate back for another year after his success with Casey and in the last couple of rounds. I think he could really thrive under a new coach and game plan.

I think Dunn has played his last game as a Demon, while Warnock also appears to be gone.

Campbell I think is an obvious delisting given the progression of Martin and Gawn. McNamara has been on the list forever yet seems to be stuck in the VFL, so I think it's time for him to go as well.

It will definitely be interesting to see what happens over the coming weeks.

Unless a suitable trade partner becomes available I cannot see Bate and Dunn playing elsewhere. It is hard to know what Neeld thinks when it comes to required players. Our rookie list will get a new look, but our senior list has some question marks over it. Agree that Warnock is gone- he wants out and will find a home.

Players in the gun/on the table might include: Maric, MacDonald, Wonna, Bartram, Jetta*. Bate could be offered up, but unsure of his currency.

Nicho and Evans are the only rookie listed players I can still see playing next year.

* Have heard Jetta is considering heading back home to play football. Is out of contract and is weighing up options. Comes from a close family friend.

Bate. Although I am a huge fan of his, he showed little at AFL level until late in the season. But I reckon a new coach may spark something in him. Keep him.

Dunn. Delist. Has a huge body and is an excellent kick for goal but is a terrible decision maker and has no other AFL level attributes. However, look what Malthouse did with Leigh Brown.

Maric. Keep him on the list and see if Neeld can make a small forward out of him.

McNamara. Delist. This should have been done at the end of 2010

Newton. Delist. Pleeeeaaassseee!!!!

Campbell. Delist. Four ruckman, three of them already very capable at AFL level.

Warnock. He is an AFL standard player and will get an opportunity elsewhere.

I hope we don't lose Jetta or Wonna.

Unsure about Bartram. His defensive pressure is so good, as is his ability to get the ball, but his kicking...!!! Anyone remember the ruckman from the PIes, Manson? Bartram gives me the shudders every time I see him running through half back ready to deliver.

These 3 are rookies M38, so your wish may be granted, however, we will still need to move 2 senior listed players on. If Warnock were to get traded, as he requested, then we still need to find one more player to shift.

One would assume it would come from the top 3 names you mentioned.

I can't see Neeld getting rid of Bartram. By his own admission, he'll have certain non-negotiables that he will be able to see players do (or not do), I would bet that Bartram would be in the top 3 at the Club in consistently performing in this area. Sure, his disposal is a bit iffy, but assuming the coach likes the way he goes about things, he'll play more to Bartram's strengths, rather than isolate his weaknesses.

Neeld as talked about roles within the team, Barty is a very disciplined player and I'm confident he'll play his role.

Dunn is hard at it. I would like to see him at the club in 2012.

Is he?

He sure does like to jumper punch...

But I rarely see him do any bullocking work for a tall forward, which he claims he is, or a tagger, which they tried to turn him into.

In fact, I have seen more short steps to avoid bullocking work, than the bullocking work itself...

He's a good bloke but Petterd and Jurrah do all that he can do, but a quite a bit better.

Dunn, Bate, Warnock, Maric, and possibly a couple of names we haven't thought of will be put up.

It's footy, it's life.

Bate and Dunn, though playing similar roles, to me are completely different players. Bate is no where near as gifted phsically and athletically as Dunn, but is a good honest footballer in that he has certain things he does well, and he does those thing consistently well IMO. By that i mean, his leading at the ball and his marking while usually being a reliable kick for goal. Dunn on the other hand is more unpredictable, but also potentially more damaging as he has got a massive kick, and seems to have decent instincts around the goal. He's also a decent mark but where he differs largely to bate is that his work rate is not as high. Bate is not as quick, but he still works hard, and has shown an ability to win the ball in the middle. Dunn has not shown this ability in the middle at all. Last year I was rapt with how Dunn was playing and would have said Bate is on the way out. Now my view has changed as Dunn had the opportunity to really breakout this year. Instead he played average football at Casey for chunks of the season and took a big step backwards. On that basis I would rather keep Bate then Dunn as he reflects more of the attitudes that i think this club needs. Dunn, on the other hand, seems to just be selfish.

I would like Maric to be retained as he has shown the capacity to be damaging with his disposal into the forward 50, and around the goals. We just don't have enough players on the list with that skill set to move him on.

Warnock is gone....he's requested a trade so lets move on.

Newton.......rookie listed......has never fulfilled his potential and hopefully with Cook having a strong preseason and with Martin's development he will no longer be needed. Though he showed some positive signs this year, i think it's time to say fairwell to Newton.

McNamara, has shown some good form at Casey and is still young, but to me he just doesn't have the polish to play in the middle or up forward, and things obviously didn't work out for him as a defender. I really hoped he'd do well when he returned but I can't see him reaching the required level at this stage. However, if this years draft crop is really that poor, then I say we give him another season. He's young enough.

I hope we can keep all the 'brothers' as I love Jetta's attack on the ball (that bump on Harbrow when we played GC was gold) and Wonna's enthusiasm, forward pressure and goal kicking.

Campbell has been a good player to have, but with Spencer likely to come back fit, and apparently having made significant developments before getting injured, Gawn, Martin, Fitzpatrick and Jamar all as rucks, I don't think we have space for Campbell. Although Fitzpatrick is being developed as a forward, which could mean we have space for Campbell on the rookie list again if needed.

Aside from this group I am unsure who else we could delist as the rest of the group is still young and has a lot of promise. If I remember correctly Evans and Nicholson have already been resigned for next year so they aren't going anywhere. Not sure if Cameron Johnstone has shown enough to be retained though. Don't know much about him either.

Not technically a trade/delisting issue, but according to todays Age, Emma Quayle believes highly touted Casey defender Tim Mohr is likely to be one of the players GWS take as a pre-listed player (ie. They get a free hit on guys not on lists who have previously nominated for drafts, think Krakouer, Mzungu last year).

I would think we will want to create 4-5 spots on our list. Scully is one, Warnock will be 2, one of Bate or Dunn will be gone and I think Aussie might be offered a rookie spot. It wouldn't supprise me if Maric is looking for a new club but the change of coach might keep him around.

With the rookies I think we will keep Campbell, Evans, Nicholson and Lawrence this leaves Newton, McNamarra and Johnstone gone. We will have 2 long term injury spots on the senior list going into 2012 with Strauss and Spencer plus the nominated rookie spot so there opportunity for our rookies.

For those how think Dunn is hard, hard off the footy but not hard at the footy, big difference and I would rather have someone hard at the footy, I don't consider the other a hard footballer.

On Jetta I thought he signed for 2 years last year and his family live in Melbourne so I wouldn't expect him wanting to return home, I also think Bennell lives with them.

Your mail may be right about Jetta wanting to go back to WA but he is very much under contract until the end of 2012.

I'd be surprised if Campbell is kept beyond this year. With his niggling injuries, and the progress of Fitzpatrick, Gawn and Martin, I don't see him even getting a chance at a game next year. If he was recruited to help out with the ruck coaching, surely it'd be better to employ him as a part-time coach (or similar), rather than clogging a spot on the list?

Taking up 1 spot on the rookie list - hardly clogging in my view.

Would love to know the pay difference between a rookie-listed player and a ruck coach. I think it would probably work out very close. Might as well leave him where he is for another 12 months.

I want to see what Bate can do if left around the ball more often. He doesn't have enough pace for that lead up forward role and he has shown a little late in the season as a clearance player. Delisting or trading Dunn is probably fair. Newton/Campbell are the obvious delistings.

Not so sure about this. Spencer was only out for the season (= this season), and with Strauss there's talk of him being able to do at least half of the pre-season.

Agreed, we can't get rid of all our 24 Yr olds in one hit. Let the New Bater see out his final Year, before we make the final deecision.

Yep, and I wouldn't be surprised to see us trade one, either this or next year.

So I'd like to rookie another 'young long term ruck', this Year, who can spend 2012 in the Casey 2nds.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
