Wha tI don't understand is your patting on the back that we picked up a player, with pick 11, that is better than Brock McLean. Yes, I understand that we got pick 11 for Brock, which is where we chose JG, but I would like to think that we got the better end of that deal. Put it this way, if Carlton offered us the last pick in the rookie draft and picked me, I think the MFC would still be in front.

I suggest you stop reading all the poor training reports about gysberts. We have all seen them. So he isn't the Feb running champion.

Look at the facts...he has two rising star awards. he gets the footy. at the start of his career Anthony Rocca was often critscised for looking as though he was out of breath. Did that stop him from going on to have a good AFL career? NO.

I wouldn't say that Neeld had a set on players, although I would say that he has a 'set' of attributes that he likes players to have. Attributes that I dont think Gysberts has.

I'm not going to say he's a star but I will say that I believe with a good run without many more injuries he could be a strong 200+ player for us. I believe it enough to have put my money up and buy his Reach NabCup Guernsey I don't think we've seen the best of him yet.

Absolutely love this kid and can only see huge upside in him.Knows how to find the footy,is an excellent kick and his clearance work is outstanding for a lightly built youngster. Everyone talks about $cully,trenners and Martin in that draft but 'the gys' at 11 was an absolute beauty!

Thanks for your suggestion. I actually take the training reports with a grain of salt. This thing I find most interesting about training reports is the different drills the new coaches have implemented, and what postions certain players train in, and the times some of our so called "elite endurance" midfiedlers are running in time trials.

I judge Gysberts on his footy to date, and the potential that I see in him. It's not my fault I believe his potential isn't as high as some on here, and think he has a lot of areas tha the needs to work on for him to reach the status that a few of you beleifve he will.

And while receiving 2 Rising Star nominations is a good effort, he's not the first, and won't be the last to do it. I believe Blease will receive his 2nd this year, and I have more upside for Blease than Gysberts. Jones is also another player who has received 2 nominations, and I'm yet to see anyone on here say that he has reached the heights that we think Gysberts can reach. Jones is a very good player, not elite, not a gun, etc.

I don't think the Anthony Rocca comparison is some of your best work.

I think that if the Gys dosn't change the way he plays and his intensity then he will turn out to be only an average player.

I am really hoping that he gets a bit of grunt into him.

Right now, could you imagine him in the midfield against Buddy Franklin? His going to need to get to the point where he needs to be able to contest top line midfielders in marking contests, tackle them hard and chase them down otherwise there is no point having him in the first 22 if he can't do this.

Gys would get flicked off like a fly trying to tackle an oncoming Buddy. Fortunately I think players such as Moloney, Magner, Jones and Sylvia wouldn't.

And get a pair of rose coloured glasses some on here seem to wear. Billy's view is more than reasonable, and one that I agree with. Ball is in Jordan's court now, so let's hope he can prove those of us wrong who are a little more reserved in our praise and expectations for him.

I for one like what the Gys has shown to date. He is a possession winner. A true midfielder that our list lacks. He needs time to build his motor and body size. I don't care that he is not a training champ (at this stage). He is a footballer who knows how to get the ball and use it. He has shown more on the field than some of our more higher profile picks.

The jury is still out on JG's future as it would be with someone his age etc.

But I firmly believe he has shown way more than TS so far at senior level.

After a fantastic debut few games, he has for various reasons not set the world on fire since.

With the arrival at the club of the likes of Magner and Couch, Jordan is at a bit of risk of things passing him by if he doesn't really produce on a regular basis this season. Hope he doesn't, but there is the risk.

thats the exact reason why Gysberts won't get much if any game time this year under Mark Neeld in my opinion. Mark wants results, not to develop players who can't even tackle opposition mid fielders. He will need to develop at casey while his body and technique matures.

I like Gys but this is just my 2c into why he didn't get to much NAB game time. I don't mean to put the guy down as i hope he turns out really well but i honestly don't think that this year we will see to much of the Gys.

The whole point of this though is that i do not think Neeld will give the Gys much gametime until otherwise. Personally I wouldn't want to see opposition midfielders running around flicking our mid fielders off the ball or running right past them.

Gys has alot of skill but until he has the urgency, body and improves the defensive side of his game, i think he will see alot of time at casey.

And yes, i know there are bigger issues, but its nice to talk about other things sometimes that arn't being spammed all over the newspapers.

On the subject of tackling...at 163cm Tony Liberatore is the undisputed tackling king.

From Training reports and many comments on this thread this boy does have some attributes. There has been much discussion about development and I believe here is a case in point.

Throwing him in front of Franklin may or may not develop him. I would think the support of players around him would indicate wether that is a good or bad thing.

Certainly there are games where the opponent and the structure of the team on that day could be suitable to allow him to benefit from his existing skills and improve them and other occasions where he may be sacrificed to be developed.

I like The Gys he is a talented youngster and with the new coach and fitness team he will only improve. With his size and frame I think he is more likely to be a Pendlebury/Thomas type rather then the more solidly built mid fielders.

Last time I looked Moloney, Sylvia, Magner and Jones had all celebrated their 21st birthdays some years ago. Comparing apples and bananas arent we??? You have only backed my comment about development...Hmmm. And Tapscott is a large frame with issues about his game that at um 20 he needs to address through developement.

And Gysberts isnt the lost Cockatoo Collins triplet either. Glad you have cashed your chips so early
