Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

An Old teacher of mine always said. "You've got to speculate to accumulate".

So if you don't risk there is no reward.

Every player we draft is a risk, and hasn't that been proven time and time again.

Melbourne aren't much good at punting.

As a medium forward with good athleticism and poor endurance, how much better could he be than Jurrah?

Because that's who he would be competing with for a spot.

As I have said previously LJ can play up the ground and can crumb as well. This kid is also taller so I am not sure it is LJ's spot or nowhere. The other perhaps more important factor is that he might not be up to AFL standard. However if he can play as his results seem to indicate and he can adapt to melbourne life he might be a steal as a rookie.

I would say there is very little chance that we will draft Manson and it has nothing to do with race or racism (sorry to those that want to see it that way) it will be based purely on reliability and dependability.

Sure he has ability, but reliability and dependability he doesn't.

I have a gut feel this guy is too hard of work Redleg.

Appears as thought they have been unable to keep him in Perth or Darwin.

Don't like the chances of him staying in Melbourne.

I cannot imagine him playing at Casey in July.

I don't think we are going to take him.

The last thing this club needs is another flashy, undisciplined, skinny player to whom we are obliged to show the greatest empathy and support every time he wants to p!ss off home because the big mean coaches at MFC are trying to get him to be accountable defensively.

Would not last a heartbeat under our new coaching regime.

I'm beginning to think that Manson may need to play a couple of seasons in either the WAFL or NT and show everyone that he has the commitment to actually work at it before anyone is ready to take him on. Despite his obvious talent, he's not doing himself any favours with the way he conducts himself. I think at the moment that i'm pretty much 50/50 on him. I won't be upset if we Rookie him, but if we don't bother I won't see it as a huge loss. It's obvious that he has the potential, and if he were to move to Melbourne and decide he loved it and wanted to put in we'd have a winner, but what are the odds of that happening?

How much better can anyone be if they have their horizons expanded and are taught to work on their gift?

I think a lot .

We've made worse choices with white kids from the APS system .

I'm not going to use the R word but some of the posts against recruiting this kid are taking stereotypes and embellishing them with reflections of Wonna fresh on their minds .

Waylon ,Aussie and Jurrah are three different people with three different levels of ability and application to give the club (or not) .

Lets not lump them in together with lazy generalisations as I have seen here before .

Oh! really?

This is not an issue of Black versus white, although some want to make it that and turn it in to a thread about racism, it is simply about recruiting a player that has shown some disturbing traits and doesn't appear to have the discipline to play AFL football in the big league.

There have been many players that have been taken on potential and turned out to be less than adequate and we can't afford to spend hard won resources taking a chance on this kid who may want to go home for a couple of weeks after the first month here.

No this isn't a matter of race it is a matter of common sense something which some on here lack.

This kid has freakish ability and can kick 10 goals straight . All the rest is speculation based on generalization.

Classic fear of abandonment issues amongst some here .

Yes he can kick 10 goals straight but in what type of competition?

The speculation is based on reality and it wouldn't matter what the colour of his skin is or what his background is; he has to demonstrate that he can be relied on and to this date he hasn't shown that he can.

In a competition where he outscored Fev without effort .

So hes above VFLs best player without one Afl season.

Nothing to do with generalizations. The kid has been quoted saying he wanted to be a part time footballer. If he were to be judged only on his potential to kick bags and influence games then he would have gone first round, but his attitude is terrible.

With his talent he could be one of the stars of the next 10 years, with his mental attitude dunno and as someone said before can't imagine him at Casey in July, he might freeze in the pocket!

Out of interest, where is this "quote"? I have seen the article where his manager(?) discussed the fact that any club investing in him might want to bring him into the fold slowly so that he can "acclimatise", but I don't recall seeing any such quotes attributed to Manson himself.

But after his first day, being physically tested and questioned by club recruiters at Etihad Stadium, Manson broke down. He wanted to go home.

At home, in his community of Billiluna, nine hours' drive inland from Broome, Manson spends his time playing football with mates, helping "fix fences and things", and hunting.

"There's lots of hunting and fishing," Manson said.

"We go to the creek, split up and look for goanna and all that. Anything you can find.

"I love playing footy. Sometimes I can't be bothered playing and training. Sometimes I want to quit.

"But (for the) love of the game I keep trying."

Claudius has called for a staggered approach, balancing time between Melbourne, Perth, and back home. That way, he could adjust, slowly. Maybe.

"If he was to go to a Melbourne club and relocate next year, immediately, as most draftees do, I would go as far as saying he wouldn't make it," he said.

"He wouldn't get through one year."

Yes Old55... that serves to reinforce my point; nowhere in there is he quoted as saying he wants to be a part-time footballer - if anything he is saying that he is trying hard to apply himself more "for the love of the game".

A better player than others already on the list.

Adding to your accurate post - and maybe developing a super star.At least we have had the experience of settling LJ now, and his fitness has definately improved, all be it slowly but surely. If we got Manson, then able to settle him,who knows what that might create.like Cook-it might be put him away for a couple of years for development..

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
