Top of the line coach, knows coaching job is available, openly courted, declines to go to Perth and deal with the mess that is the Purple Club.

Premiership coach, ex-player, offered five-year massive deal, rejects to stay at his club.

Triple premiership coach, coming out of contract end of season, refusing to coach in 2012.

Premiership coach, cushy media role, refuses to coach.

I want to know why despite all the draft picks and all the [censored] that we've had to deal with over the last three years our club is clearly rated as not good enough to be worth a half decent coach and we seem to be destined to cop yet another untried assistant.

Striker you muppet, this says nothing about the MFC. It is now known that Ross Lyon sought out the Dockers, who have offered him $7.5m/5 years. 2 Things, i) There is no way we could afford $1.5m a season and ii) It is now obvious that even if Melbourne threw the kitchen sink at Ross, he still wouldn't have come, as it seems he had made an agreement with the Dockers 5 weeks ago.

This situation says nothing of Melbourne, more-so the character of Ross Lyon and the Fremantle Football Club. Go back to digging your hole of pessimism.

What do people think of this twitter in the last hour from Grant Thomas?:

I'm hearing Burns is going to coach Melbourne and Neil Craig is Director of Coaching. Eade Director of coaching at Crows. Cards are falling.

They just mentioned that on the footy show.

I believe Garry btw, his body language was sound. Convincing even. We made no deal to Lyon so he didn't turn us down- we spoke to Lyon's management about availablity SHOULD he not re-sign with Saints.

Little did everyone know Lyon was already looking after himself.

Garry says he is very confident we are where we need to be in looking for a new coach and I believe him.

No i did not, i think Garry is ok.

If we did not offer Ross a deal then there never was one.

Garry said "We are very much on Track"

Fine with me.

If he was never made an offer, then he didn't reject us...pretty simple really. So no judgement on our club from him. Given the speed of this its been planned for a bit. They sealed the deal with Lyon and then booted harvey. Thats even low for a footy club. And I wont be surprised if it was done by the players as they rally run Freo.

Now, Let me get this straight. 5 weeks back Ross L decided to leave the Saints, didn't tell his manager, but bypassed everyone and found himself on the end of a phoneline that stretched across the Nullabor?

He said to who, I don't know, have you chaps thought about getting rid of your current, and taking on me'o?

Why, Oh, I don't know Ross, let us think for a second, 'tick', Yes, OK!

Have you spoken to anyone else, No, No one else I want.... I want to move my family over here,,, away from Melbourne.

The crowd goes, Aargh !!!

I agree he had all the look of a man who knew exactly where he was at.

Very confident and not waver in his voice look straight at the camera.

I am after that interview even more convinced it is MM.

I said early I had not seen one grain of evidence that the MFC had made RL an offer and GL said that tonight.

It is MM and I will believe that until someone else is annnounced.

I saw what looked like a glimpse of disappointment when they were introducing the show, but the interview segment with Barret eased my concerns. He looks on top of it, definitely.

SMF please change your avatar I seldom get round to reading what you say cannot get my eyes lower than the LH Top corner.

Now what did you say?

Oh yes I agree with your last sentence.

I'm not concerned about what tonight's developments say about the MFC. I'd revisit this thread though if Mick Malthouse takes the senior coaching gig of a club other than Melbourne for 2012.

You need to question Lyons Character who walks out of his club for a better pay offer Mercenary!

Even his own mgt team have dumbed him, what does that tell you!

Would you want the MFC to pay him 7.5 mill over 5 yrs???

Umm I tend to speak my mind, I try not to mince my words.. I'm kind of conservative- I try to use logic in assessing situations.

You haven't missed any gems unfortunately.

I'm glad your heat is fine. :P Ahhh.. why am I bothering... it's not like you are going to read this..

Sometimes you have to go for the simple option and just LOL.

Ross Lyon looks like a ruthless and slightly weird operator out of all this (I knew he couldn't be trusted the moment I saw him wearing a skivvy at Draft Camp back in 09  )

Nothing like a good sense of humour you really need it to be a Dees supporter.

Yes I did read it I have put a small piece of tape on my glasses.

What avatar!

Surely he would also be relieved to be away from the constant attention of being the coach of a high profile club with many recent off field issues and high expectations in the home of AFL. He must be looking forward to a life out of the spotlight while ALSO getting the big bucks.

Looks like ST Kilda got Tom $cullied.

Back to the OP, why does this have to say something about us? It actually only says something individually about each of the people involved.

The OP was a little premature and emotionally charged drivel.

Insecure poster, reactionary excitable post.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
