The New Sponsors

Hoping Energy Watch will be around for a while. Interesting to see that their web site has been down for a day or two though. Hope this is not a bad sign.......

That is a worry, especially as the website is the cornerstone of their business. Like I wrote earlier, they have been spending a lot of money on sponsorships and advertising, hopefully the club got their money up front.

Sooo...we have named our co-captains today, yet still no sign of a sponsorship announcement. Great opportunity to announce our major sponsor too. Oh wait...we don't have one. Bugger, there goes that golden opportunity to get maximum exposure for a new investor - maybe we should've held off announcing the captain until we had someone on board.

Maybe we are much further away from signing/getting our new sponsor than some think. The leadership announcement was promised before the NAB Cup, suggesting we will not have the sponsor deal done before then.

And I'm telling you exactly as I have found it after 4 years in Rockhampton and 21 years on the Gold Coast mixing with many fans of all codes both in business and socially.

I feel sorry for you living on the GC mate. Lived there 3 years for uni, have an absolute hatred for the souless [censored] hole. Each to their own i guess. You sound like you have had a few Bundy's today Smithy. On the angry juice?

As long as you are happy telling yourself you have made the right relocation choice and justify it to yourself by the weather forecast, then good on you. How is the rain this time of year?

I have worked extensively with disadvantaged teenagers in Rockhampton, with Rugby League (or footy as they call it) being the biggest highlight in their life. Or if you ask if they are going to the footy on the weekend, they genreally go and watch the Comets (or Capras or whatever they are called now).

A majority of the Gold Coast are from everywhere but, mostly southern states. I've had a number of drinks/heated discussion with people of the Gold Coast about what is the true footy, I'm always outnumbered.

A true rugby league follower call it footy. Anyone else is in the minority.

Fair enough, we will agree to disagree then billy. Are you still in Rocky ?

Not at all Woey, just holding my ground - after all this is a democratic site ?

I moved to the GC as a mature person, maybe your view would change if a similar situation occurred.

There are sleazy areas in all cities in Oz.

The website is back up and running but I noticed they are now sponsoring the Melbourne Rebels too.

China Southern?...what makes you curious about them?

Theyre expanding, especially on Kangaroo routes. Largest Airline in the region wanting to gain a higher profile possibly . Just Speculation

Reports from twitter are saying that Woodside Energy have extended their sponsorship deal with Fremantle for a further 4 years, taking their partnership out til the end of the 2016 season!

Where do you get one of these sponsors from.

I do wish we can get someone we can have a long term arrangement with. How long have the Cats had Ford as a major sponsor???

Yeah good for Freo, this is due to them mining half the state, and i think i heard a few board members a very heavily involved at freo and woodside..... they would be getting a very good deal for it also.....

edit - or oil...we know the point im making

Similar but different to a few windfarms in country areas, they set up the farms which people hate..... sponsor the footy/netball club with good good dollars and throw a few jobs out, evryone is happy again

As a former denizen of Sydney, I would say that the four codes are referred to as League, Rugby, AFL and soccer. Footy is/was hardly ever used up there. The soccer people are trying to get everybody to refer to them as football, I say stuf 'em,.

and the announcement has been made...our newest sponsor!!! lol

EDIT- "don't drive like a demon" seems pretty tongue in cheek considering Sylvia's off season antics

Good to get them back on board, even if only in a more minor role...

Atleast we know the team is working their way through things

This second sponsor is starting to become as big a worry as the last time we couldn't attract a major sponsor. Hopefully a member somewhere in the world gets drunk and stumbles upon something, somewhere, somehow like last time.

Bit of a fail at the moment if you ask me and my confidence is low going on what the russian has said above. I'm tipping no sponsor to start the season.

it is not a fail.. It is an economic downturn with too many proffessional football teams in one city

I am sure the club is still fighting hard to win a signature.

Agree. The current admin do not have a good record with getting sponsors on board, and then keeping them. They really need to get someone at the club who knows what they are doing with this.

Of course it's a fail, we've been without a sponsor for months now and it doesn't appear as though we're close to getting a new one. I appreciate it's an economic downturn and am sure they are working hard but it is a complete fail at the moment if you ask me.

Last time we were lukcy that a long time supporter of the club stepped in and some bloke got pi$$ed in bar (or something) to land the other one for us. It's very concerning imo and is costing the club $$ each and every day it isn't sorted out.

We are getting better though.

We fell into both last time with Kaspersky's million (the one you refer to), and De La Rue getting us $700k at the last minute.

Now we got EnergyWatch to give us $2m so we are already ahead of where we were.

Would like to get that second one quickly though...

Waiting on a reply from B59 regarding this one RP!

I can hear it now "just because that's what we used to get doesn't mean that it's what we should, etc etc".

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
