Tom who? Seriously, forgotten about the kid already. As I'm sure most here have now.

do the doggie supporters feel duped now? compo for us was had to be bigger- given the #1 tag that accompanied the forgotten man. What did doggies get for Ward?

Doggies get one first round selection. My understanding is you get one selection, MFC that is after their first pick and one at the end of the first round. Doggies will probably get one after their first round pick.

Assuming no other team activates their own compensation picks, and Gold Coast don't get a PP:

- Pick 11 (mid first rd pick compo)

- Pick 12 (for finishing 8th)

- Pick 14 (first rd pick compo which comes after our 1st pick)

Think this is how it works, assuming mid first rd pick comes after all other team's picks who don't make finals...

Great. Trade all three to Collingwood for Pendlebury!

Cameron Schwab seems to reckon we will get compensation picks for "What's his face" that are along the the lines of what the Cats got for Gary Ablett - Hope he's right - thought he was quite impressive at the Melbourne press conferance btw - Our Club has shown a lot of class throughout this whole sorry saga and I'm quite proud of how we've handled it .

We were in a no win situation for most of the year and right at the end we could come out way on top esp if "Prima Donna Tom" has a shortened career due to his degenerative knee - I'll bet any money he reads these threads so we should let him have it !

We did mate - Band 1 compo, just like Geelong received for GAJ.

MFC takes it in the coight again we should of demanded like for like compensation 3 months ago in case the situation eventuated

yet we are asleep at the wheel and are shafted again.

I believe that our suckling at the teat of the AFL equalisation fund has us

running around like eunuchs.

I'll be called the doom-sayer but [censored] i'm tired of being a laughing stock.

I reckon what's his names knee was a ploy and not as bad as we were led to believe; GW$ would have put him through a thorough Medical, unless they are completely stupid, and would have made the offer subject to him passing it. I know the Sheedy is an imbecile but the AFL are funding you "know who's" wages so they would have had their grubby little paws all over this and they would have insisted he have a medical.

Sheedy apparently said that the agreement was in place all year so they would have done their homework on him.

"1st round pick" in this context means another pick directly after your 1st round pick.

So if you have pick 13, the compo pick will be pick 14.

"mid 1st round pick" means after the first 9 teams have had their 1st round picks (& compo picks, if used) you'll have your pick.

So if no compo picks are used by teams, that'll be pick 10 at best (allowing for priority picks).

Bulldogs received a "1st round pick" as compo.

MFC received a "1st round pick" and a "mid 1st round pick" as compo. Just like Geelong (not sure which one, but Geelong traded one of their compo picks last year to GC17 in return for pick 15 - Billie Smedts).

We suffered for several years because Gutnick took on the AFL and to be quite honest it did us no favours. You just have to suck it up otherwise you will find yourself playing 3 home games at Shittyhead Stadium and 3 or 4 games against Interstate at the G, or even worse a home game against GWS AT Manuka.

No club will ever get like for like in these trades....That's not the point of the excercise, and yes it sucks.

But to get 2 first round picks is certainly usable...

Tim & Barry have got to recruit their Asses of this year and next.

No point sooking...Take it standing up....choose wisely & NEVER FORGET

Confirmed on AFL Website two first round picks we will come out the winner here, provided we use them wisely. We must leave them to 2012 though.

http://www.afl.com.a...57/default.aspx

If we finish near the bottom next year, which I expect we will, we could finish up with, say pick 3 & 4 or picks 4 & 5 plus a pick at the end of the first round in 2012. That would be harder to predict as other clubs will be using their delayed compo picks in that year. But if the draft is as good as is expected we could have three top picks in the top 20, not sure if we will have to use one on Jack Viney but if we do it will be the last one in the first round, if not we get him as well.

You little beauty.

Why should we aim to be near the Bottom next year?? Tanking has done us no good....We need to earn RESPECT before Free Agency....so players want to come to the MFC

Lift your Game Robbie F....No more Tanking ok.demon_cool.gif

I would like to see us use them during trade week if there is anything worthwhile of offer... we need to inject experience, skills and strength at this point in time.

Maybe - but he's a "thinker" and thinker's often read a lot - I've just got this vision of his "Cheeseburger eating family" alerting him to - "Look what they're saying about you now Tom!"

I wasn't suggesting we'd tank that's my assessment of where we are currently at.

Do you actually think we will get better next year? I hope we do but I just can't see it and I reckon we'll go backwards.

Any improvement at the club will come in a few years time, currently we are sadly lacking leaders, the type that are prepared and capable of dragging the club over the line; in most games our leaders are more inclined to throw in the towel when it all becomes too hard.

I'm the opposite.

Draft or trade for 17 year old picks, or GWS / GC players.

No.

We need some mature bodies. The whole team can't be kids. They'll all retire at the same time!

With a Top Line Coach & his chosen assistants, this team will get better...quite markedly....They can play as we have seen sporadically....They must be taught defensive pressure, so we don't panic and leak at the first sign of competition....Most of that comes from upstairs...it can be taught well by good orators.

Aim Higher people, otherwise we will be Fitzroy Mark 2

If MFC happen to finish last next year, we could potentially get pick 1, 2 & 10? :o

I think you'll find we'd be effectively trading Scully for a couple of kids at least 3 years younger than him.

How would that make them the same age as our other kids, who are mostly around the age of Scully?

The issue has always been that we wouldn't be seriously competing again until kids like Trengove, Grimes, Watts et al were no longer kids, and were leading the club, with Green, Bruce, Junior, Davey, unfortunately gone by then.

Anyone who got ahead of themselves and began to believe otherwise, was kidding themselves.

I have been guilty of this for a while.

Nothing wrong at all with bringing in more kids.

Impatience doesn't get you anywhere.

So, taking into consideration the process of Father and Son selection for Jack Viney;

If another club challenges our selection of Jack next year (meaning we have to use a higher pick then they are willing to offer) are our compensation picks immune to this challenge?

I.e we don't have to use our top pick to secure JV.

Yes, compo picks are immune to Father-Son bidding.

I don't believe in pretending anymore I have a look at our side and just can't see the improvement, there's just not the talent there. We need Leaders and we need midfielders, lots of new ones, we have battlers and that's not enough. Look at Carlton and compare their Midfield to ours and they aren't even the top club in the comp. We aren't a patch on them and we have no genuine star, they have a couple.

Moloney - Battler

Jones - Battler

McKenzie - Battler

Gysberts - Very Good but disposal has been terrible

They all try hard but they are just not A grade footballers and are usually smashed in clearances when we play a side with a top midfield, or even a good one. Who is going to come in and solve that little problem for us? We have no one in the wings we have been recruiting forwards and backs but no mids. We may eventually put Trenners in there or Blease but they are not really there as midfielders.

Where is the improvement going to come from?

And don't say Grimes he is on the permanent injury list.

Could not agree more.

Especially the last two words

This is our chance to stand up O.D. We now have a reason.

Could be the best thing that ever happened to us. I wasn't thinking that yesterday, but i am now. Long as we get Quality Compo for what was done.

We use it wisely.....& NEVER FORGET.

Look at Trenners up there on the Banner....he loves it.

Scully never wanted to be a Demon...He did his time.

But the Club must never be shafted like that again. Notice this year not one Top Side lost a player....

We gotta get there.

If the compensation is the same as the Cats got for Ablett, then forget about getting any more!

Many are saying we shouldn't have got the same, so let's take them and move on!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
