I am a massive Watts fan but he really needs to be taught how to demand the footy more than he does now. Hopefully a new coach and game style will help our club move forward.

I have never been so close to using physical violence at a game of footy.

I had to sit in front of Collingwood supporters who decided to come to the Melb v GC game just to be obnoxious, abuse our club and barrack for the GCS way over the top.

Blease and McDonald look fantastic and in spirts Macnamara looked solid.

I felt kinda bad for Barty when Morton roosted it high into our forward line in the 4th instead of kicking it to him 30 yards out. But credit to Barty and his job on Yablet and he didn't kick the ball out on the full today.

It's not difficult. So far, we haven't been coached to play as a team. They play like individuals trying to do something called "teamwork".

We got smashed in the clearances because the Suns mids are organised & play as a team. Our mids are each trying to get the same ball. No system, no organisation, no structure.

Viney can't fix it in a month. It's only when we get a decent coach next year that we'll realise how badly we've been coached.

Exactly right. Our players are all over the shop with no structure and no overall "big picture" as to what their individual roles are in the team. Gold Coast were much better drilled than us which is an indictment on Bailey and our coaching staff over the last few years. Seriously the sooner we get rid of scrubbers like Mahoney & Royal and probably West and Williams as well the better off it will be for the development of our players. As an example, how many times do 5 or 6 of our players all lead to the same spot towards the boundary line making it impossible to get a bit of space. Any half decent observer knows they should be spreading and dragging their opponents away from each other to isolate them and have space for the ball to be put in front of them. But no, our mob plays like a bunch of under 12's with everyone running to the same spot to try and win the game off their own boot instead of playing as a TEAM.

Case in point 2; the ball is kicked long and high into the forward line at the Punt Road End towards Watts one-out. Green is about 20 metres away being double teamed. So what does he do? Runs straight to where the ball is kicked dragging his two opponents into the marking contest with Watts and making it impossible for him to take a grab. He doesn't even go front and centre just jumps straight into the pack trying to do god knows what. For an experienced 30 year old player, let alone a CAPTAIN, he should be smarter than that. A lot smarter. It is just the same rubbish time and again.

Another point. We clear the ball out of defense moving it quickly across to Watts about 40 metres out in the back pocket. So he gets the ball and looks up and what is there ahead? NOTHING but Suns players up the line while our players are all standing around like statues pointing to each other. So eventually Watts has to kick back across goal because there is nothing up field for him.

Seriously I reckon a monkey could coach this mob better than the so-called professionals have over the last few years.

I don't think I underestimate GC, in fact that's the thing that irks me most about the whole situation - really we should be miles in front of them in terms of development. Also I'm not sure I'd say they "kicked away" in the last quarter - GC won the quarter 5 goals to 4. Just lucky, as like last week, that we seemed to have something in the Gatorade at 1/2 time.

We had a first Gamer today, and Blease has played 4 i think...You take Sylvia out of that side and that explains quite a bit about our clearance efficiency.

I am not making excuses but i can see what was happening..

The GC set themselves up for a real crack today...The are an AFL powerhouse in the making, make no mistake. Bluey McKenna was no fool as a player, they are improving.

I have only seen the second half at this stage, but after all the turmoil of the last 2 months, i will take a 5 goal win.

As i will next week...Then the hard work begins for next year...we do have good kids who need a Top line experienced coach..Right Now.

This meant doing the simple things really, really well, including getting your kick off to an unmanned teammate if advantageous. Too many times today we witnessed experienced players wanting to take the ball back through traffic because of an apparent obsession with the corridor. In fact, once again it was the experienced players who tended to let us down. At least Blease, McDonald and McNamara looked like they were having a crack. Cale Morton on the other hand just swans around trying to make it look like he's getting involved - credit where credit's due, however, it was probably one of his better games of the last few weeks.

Brian Royal mentioned today at the Before the Bounce function that Todd Viney had challenged the players to absolutely stick to the structures they want to implement - sitting directly in front of the coaches' box I don't think Viney was impressed. A number of times there were fists flying against the glass. I noticed in a video they showed of the team meeting the week before the Richmond game that when asked questions by Mark Williams about tactics or the consequences of doing or not doing something that there was hardly any response from the players. It let me to wonder whether the structures that we are trying to implement are actually understood by the playing group. It's that old teaching philosophy - make your message clear enough that even the dullest student can understand it. I just hope we're not making excuses and that we don't find that some of the players who we thought would form the core of our challenge might not be up to it after all.

It's more about being realistic than pessimistic. I don't think you'll find anyone disappointed that we won, it's just the way we went about it was a reality check about how far off the pack we are.

Yeah you're right. We're the best team in the land. We have the best players who go in 100% at every contest and put the fear of god into their opponents. We are the best coached, best drilled side in the comp. It must be just some shocking coincidence that we will finish in the bottom 5 teams for the fifth year in a row.

Factor into the above the transition the entire club since 2007...and also a change of coach, that is a lot for a young group to ingest

2011 has been a let down but there have still been positives. Jeremy Howe, Blease, The Tapp...a new coach would love this list.

It's conventional wisdom that you play a player to increase their trade value... In Cale Morton's case I reckon it's been the opposite. His trade stocks have plummeted with every senior game and would have been higher if we'd voluntarily placed him on the long-term injury list.

Last week i'd have agreed but this week he was good - excellent evasive skills displayed and good disposal.

As much as Nathan Jones can be frustrating, can you imagine what our season would look like without him? He keeps on going, he always has a crack, and plays the same game win or loss. Gotta love him.

Tom Scully has not shown any signs this year that he is a number 1 draft pick. Lethal might have said this about Watts but Scully's strengths are rarely, if ever, on display. If he stays, I hope a full pre-season and an injury-free 2012 will show me what I htought we might get this year.

I was thinking McDonald could be a good replacement for Morton. Similar build only McDonald has a crack, can take an overhead mark and looks to have some idea what he is doing out there.

McDonald's debut is one of the best I've seen for a defender in a long while. Bennell and Jetta are now starting to show a little of what is required. Blease was certainly worth the wait.

agree that just about anyone else would have had us on toast today. Some truly disgraceful efforts out there. we were just lucky our opponent was so utterly bad, had they been matched up against a top4 side today they would ahve gone down by 150

I think he played mainly in defence today, but a few times I saw him start inside the centre square after a goal. I know he has done this for Casey this year a few times and maybe they were seeing if he could rise to the task. He did not. I thought he positioned himself really well at times, and ran into the right plce, but his decision making and kicking to advantage were sub-standard.
