Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Eade as next Melbourne coach?

Sacked from two clubs for not being good enough, and has left the bulldogs with the one of the worst leadership cultures in the AFL. Bailey aside, I struggle to think of a worse candidate.

Every year now there are 14 unsuccessful coaches.

The current most successful coach is getting the flick in spite of what may be two in a row.

So I am not sure that his record in that area is the be all and end all of the story.

What you think would have happened is irrelevant to the fact the GFs are won by the best team on the day. And the difference between the two GF LY able demonstrates the different outcomes you can have on the day. There are so many variables that you just cant wipe a side as naively as you have done yet make the claims you do about St Kilda. Its completely illogical.

If Saints as the underdog in the LY GF could almost pinch one then a team that makes the PF and does not get blown away aint that far away from the trophy no matter what irrelevant floss you want to put in it.

Knowing a few doggy supporters and claim their attitude reflected the attiitude of the broader club is not that smart. And you silly effort to try and create a sense of plausibility are laughable.

This discussion should go in your greatest hits file WYL together with debt discussions and batting first when you win the toss.

Whatever Rhino...you do love to have the last word, and you are not always right.

If you rated the Bulldogs over the last 3 years to actually win a premiership good luck to you...i didn't.

Not sure if true but apparently Chris Anstey tweeted on twitter that he was told 12 months ago that Eade would not get a new contract and they were going to sign up Leon Cameron. saving money was the big motivating factor.

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this, also, I have a twitter account but I hate it and can't be arsed logging in and searching for the comment, I am pretty sure that Anstey is a big Doggie fan though.

Nothing like rumour and innuendo on a Friday afternoon...

Might say a lot more about you, than about Eade.

14 seasons as a senior coach without a premiership. That says enough for me.

I'd rather take a punt on an untried coach over a coach that he has proven that he is not good enough.

I often agree with you and was of a similar mindset with regard to Eade. I decided that my thinking was too shallow. I've always believed that players make coaches. Sure, a [censored] coach is a [censored] coach, but even good coaches need the cattle.

It wasn't long ago that Malthouse was being questioned. How good was he really ? People were saying that he inherited a state team over in WA and only won two flags. Some thought he underachieved. Others pointed out that they had to fly every second week, which shortened careers and had a negative inpact on performance.

Malthouse got two average teams to grand finals at Collingwood, but wasn't able to deliever. They then went back to the well. Ultimately Malthouse got the sack from Collingwood. And make no mistake that's what happened. Collingwood knew he was a good coach, but could he deliver a flag ? In the end the thought of losing Buckley was too great and the perfect compromise was to move Malthouse aside when Buckley would be ready to take over the reins. Now, of course, Malthouse is top of the tree. Isn't timing a wonderful thing ?

Alan Joice was a [censored] coach, but he took over Alan Jeans' premiership team and duly delivered a flag. The Hawthorn players won in spite of him. Joice was later sacked at Footscray.

Rocket Eade is considered by Terry Wallace as the best coach he went up against in 12 years. Eade took over a bottom team from Barassi at Sydney and got them to a GF. He took over a bottom team at the Bulldogs and got them to 3 prelims. Does it mean that he can't win a flag, or that he didn't quite have the talent capable of winning a flag ? Afterall, they're not easy to win.

David Parkin coached at 3 clubs, one of them twice, and ended up being sacked from every one. He coached 4 flags.

Bomber Thompson was very close to getting the heave ho.

But for timing, premiership coach John Worsfold wouldn't be at West Coast this year.

I'll back the club in whatever decision they make, but I have no doubt that Eade is a terrific coach and that he can win a flag. It doesn't mean that he will, but there's no doubt in my mind that he has the capacity.

If we can't get Malthouse, or Clarkson then the choice is an untried coach, or Eade. I'm open minded to both, but geez, you'd be brave to knock back Eade.

I'm not sure of the impact, but it's also worth noting that Eade's teams have been considerably under financially resourced compared to some others.

Nooooooo!!! Can someone please show me a player he has developed over his time? These are the players he has failed over his time. They are all first rounders

Ray - Traded, then improved at St Kilda

Williams - No way

Higgins - if people think he has then don't go bagging Colin Sylvia cause he's a poor mans version of Colin

Everett - Traded and still struggling but had already done more at the swan then he did at the dogs

Grant - No. Completely unsure what's going on there...

The only 2 that have reached there junior potential is Cooney and Griffen. In saying that Cooney is finished due to poor management with his knee. Where as Griffen well I've seen better kicks in the under 14s

Gee our future looks bright with our kids if we get him....

Neeld is our man. He's been in control of Thomas, Pendlebury and Beams over the last couple of years and look how they are developing...

Clarko and those two players are primed for another few years at the top and flags are likely. The Hawks have shown this year how much depth they have during the times that they were stretched with injury.

Clarkson has got his three year contract he wanted - case closed.

I'm not convinced an experienced senior coach is the answer either. I wish there was Scott triplets..

Is that confirmed already?

Scott's, I agree! Maybe we can take over the Roos? LOL.

Development IMO, has a lot more to do with the atitude of the Board and their desire to fund a Fully functional footy department. = A healthy Board = a strong club!

If we have a strongly funded and Knowledgeable Football department, inc' recruiting, then we have the recipe for Flags!

No, whast you are talking about is not my point....So rather than just burn people why don't you just not answer.

Yes anything can happen on the day, but it usually goes to the better side....and Footscray were never going to win the flag, regardless of the Prelim Result.

It is what i thought would happen....they actually were on the "easier" side of the prelim draw each time i believe...so the result is what it is

The Dogs finished 4th three years running....7 years at the dogs & 7 at sydney....no flags 1 GF appearance (very lucky to make that GF....Dunkley) So is Eade our man?

For mine he is another ND...i think we need a tougher approach, but i will support the board.

But sometimes it doesn't as we saw in the 1st GF.

But i didn't rate the Saints in the 1st GF as an outsider...i always thought they were a big show, which is what happened.

The suprise to me was in the replay, when the saints had no juice in the tank at all.

Eade is the wrong choice.

We've seen all his tricks, he is a career coach. A month from the end of the season his thoughts while still coaching the Dogs turned to himself and his job security and I think he has pinpointed the Melbourne job because he sees us a soft "new" option.

He wont bring the one core thing to Melbourne that is missing, which is a single minded self determination to suceeed. If he could he'd have done it by now and at the least got into a GF in the last two years when he had all his cattle. He'd have found a way. It's no good comparing himself to Malthouse vis-a-vis resources/FD spend. He'll face the same obstacles at Melbourne as he did at the Dogs.

We need a bit of mongrel as a team and club

Plus

a game plan

a more defensive mindset rather than continuing the front runners we are today

a strategy for kicking out from a point - Bailey didn't have one after four years!

someone who can get Sylvia, Davey, Green our more senior players to dig deep when the going is tough

Equals

Malthouse

Clarkson

Roos

Maybe Choco Williams - can't believe I've added him

As I have said, its irrelevant what you rated them. St Kilda went into the first GF as rank underdogs. Collingwood were raging flag favourites. The diammetrically opposed outcomes in the 2 GFs should substamtiate that anything can happen on the day if you get to GF. So no matter what you thought of the Bulldogs they werent that far short in the PF and were in with a chance.

PS Just for the record, I was surprised the 1st GF was a draw. I thought Collingwood would win easily. But I thought the Saints would be slaughtered in the replay. The replay was more realistic as to the gulf between the 2 sides and the 1st GF just shows strange things happen on the day.

No they didn't The Saints finished top 2 so that is not a rank outsider. If the Bulldogs had scraped into a GF, then they would be a rank outsider.

The Filth & The Aints were one all at the end of the home & away.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
