Today spelled the end of Dean, Ive never been more sure. We are at our lowest ebb since he took over.

In a year where we should be showing fight and consistency like North Melbourne.

Our wins have only come over weak teams and have been flogged by the others, its not good enough.

Anyway time to look at who could take over.

Do we go an experienced coach or rookie.

We need a hard uncompromising coach, who demands effort.

Malthouse is the best coach in the comp and out of contract.

So id say chase him. He wants to coach on and it wont be at Collingwood, so get in contact with his manager now!

If Todd Viney gets a response from the players in the remaining games it would be hard to go past him. I see him waving his arms around passionately at games whilst DB is deep in thought.

Well hes on his last year of his contract, we arent performing, been smashed to record score. You would say he was on notice.

So its i can fairly assume, that they powers to be are discussing what to do. If they arent then they should be all gone. Go back to the pre-season, when the year was full of promise. Today we have had our second worst loss in history.

So if that dont make you question the coach nothing will.

I'm a Bailey Support, but today will be the end of him. Yes he doesn't take the field but he preps the players and develops the culture. It will be an interesting week.

As for Viney taking over, only if he wants too. It might be smart for him to sit out if he wants the top job, as it could go either way....

But we need a coach to develop some Mongrel..

Yeah, I'm not a fan of knee-jerk reactions, but I can't see how DB will survive this. Like Craig over in Adelaide, a coach on already shaky ground who has just suffered a record defeat is almost a certainty to be gone.

What I would have loved from DB today is if he had just walked away at half time and left the players a note on the dressing room door: "if you can't be bothered playing, why should I bother to coach you." Let them play without the support staff for the second half. It's sad that it's has come to the point where the team actually needs that sort of slap in the face to get them moving.

If we do find ourselves with a new coach next week, the first thing they have to do is drop most of the side that played today. I know that pretty well ensures a loss to Carlton and the end of our finals chances, but it might send some sort of message to them that they are not indispensable and there are plenty of other guys waiting to take their spots.

Viney would have to be the interim coach but he obviously doesn't have desires to be a Senior Coach or he wouldn't have taken the job doing running Development at Melbourne when he'd been a highly rated Assistant Coach at the Hawks and the Crows.

In terms of a replacement I don't think we need an experienced coach as much as we need a coach who is up with modern trends. From day one Bailey has been years behind where the game is at, and this is evident by now with how little we "press" in our forward half compared to the likes of Collingwood, Carlton and West Coast.

I would much rather see a Mark Neeld, a Scott Burns or a Brenton Sanderson who have come from a currently successful environment as the next MFC coach

If we are to have a new coach, I want an old fashioned fire-and-brimstone-breathing bastard who will run the players into the ground on the track and tear the hide off their backs during his game day speeches. That is the one thing that they desperately lack as a group. DB may be a great bloke, he may be good at bringing the kids along, but he has never been able to kick start the team when they were playing like a bunch of sulky schoolkids. We've all seen the footage of some of the great coaching addresses of the past. I would kill to have someone who could do that now.

One thing I have noticed about all the threads tonight is that posters with huge numbers of posts over many years have suddenly gone missing - don't they have any suggestions for the future, are they locked in the past, have they finally realised the obvious or maybe even they can't defend the indefensible - Bailey has been a dismal failure!

Alan Killigrew was an old fire and brimstone man, he was the coach of North many years ago and won the first 7 games one year on emotion alone but sadly they dropped off after than and finished down the table. Tony Jewell at Richmond was the same he used to get a piece of steak and pound with is fist it when he was giving his warm up speech before the game and at half time. He would hit things and kick tables etc. those were the days. Today the players would demand counselling if they were subjected to that.
