I can't believe how soft the AFL is with this, this isn't the first time Shaw has brought the game into disrepute, lied about the parked car fiasco and now this, must be family thing Tony Shaw's quote...."On the positive I guess there's plenty of time to freshen up for finals." How arrogant is that !

This really sticks in my craw, should have rubbed out for a season !!!!!

I agree, If the AFL wish to get rid of players even thinking about laying a bet.....A full season penalty....mandatory.

Simple.

This is Collingwood's response:

We're going to suspend him for all the rest of the matches of the year! exceptfor theonesthatactuallymatter Yeah, we're really super-dooper serious about this! butnotsoserioustoletitimpactourflagaspirations.

Their sanction is just a big insult to everyone's intelligence, really.

Edit: Not sure if the sanction imposed was actually by Collingwood or the AFL, but either way it stinks. Penalise him properly or not at all.

I don't understand why some of the weeks are suspended.

What the hell does that mean? why bother including them if they don't matter?

Why not just come out and say 8 weeks? Can someone explain this to me please?

Posted (edited)

Coincidence that he's back for the first week of finals?

He'll be nice & fresh by then...IMO- will not get a game-Ben Johnson will take his spot and he won't surrender it.

And by the way hope your Ultimate team plays well but naturally not as good as mine-great match ahead-All the Best..

Any other code in the world all points would have been stripped. AFL are clowns.

Eddie said Heath was on his "last chance" in the car fiasco - wonder if he'll follow thru?

Great 24 hrs for the Pies.

Not the first time Heath has tripped up at the club. This has to be the end of Eddies tether. Heath Shaw's name will come up on the trade table no doubt about it. I would take bets on Health being moved, but I don't want to tempt anyone......

Would have been intresting had heath shaw had the ball and was kicking to didak who was in a better postion than maxwell ,

In the first minute, wonder who he would have kicked to? Theres the corruption . Like the rugby league issue last year which has police involved and ppl charged

I wonder how Mick rates this compared to Addam Maric's "cheating" effort

Nice post.

Just saw the collingwood presser highlights, intresting to see players wear black ties not offical tie and the background was the collingwood insignia not the usual sponsors logo. Thinking that eddie did not want to associate the sponsors with the team on such a black day. How unlike eddie who would drop a sponsors name at every opportunity.

How could the AFL find out about a $10 bet at a local TAB? Surly there must be more to all of this.

I have put $20 on a Melbourne player for first goal every week for about 4 years, every week a pretty much random player, I have bet on Frawley, Grimes, Garland etc. many of my mates do the same with other clubs, you get great odds!!

How could the AFL find this random $10 bet put on by Shaws mate? Smells like BS to me.

If it was Trengove he would be out for 5 years and then sent to GWS.

AA would say we change the rules last week you mean you missed the change!

If it where Trengove, the whole club would be band for five years!!

Agree on Shaw. IMO the jury is out on Maxwell to for providing the information. Did he suggest to family/friend members to put bets on ?You have to wonder about Maxwell though. I'm dreaming of a quote from behind closed doors at an office within the Westpac Centre by someone on the line to Adrian Anderson...:EM - "Give him a fine but go easy he is the Captain of the footy club, it would be an absolute disgrace to this great club and the AFL mind you, if it were known he was indeed a party to these bets !"AA - "But Ed, the public is not that stupid!.."EM - "one more word out of you and I'll start up a Super League, now do it !"

Sd thing is HT, that I can actually believe that conversation could've taken place

LOL, nice one.

It wouldn't surprise me. This is off the link on the mfc website titled "A timely reminder"...:

Maxwell was fined $5000, with a further $5000 suspended, for disclosing the same information to family members, which resulted in a further three bets being placed.

Now if Maxwell told family members which resulted in three bets as a direct result and Shaw says he'll go halves in a $20 bet on Maxwell to kick the first goal (put in $10), what's the difference ? (As far as I'm concerned)....

I find it hard to believe the $20 bet would have resulted in the odds slashed from $100-1 to $25-1. Those other three bets must have been something....

Result: Maxwell get's off lightly because he is necessary for the season being captain...just impose a fine and suspended fine. But don't let on he wasn't party to a cut of the takings had they collected.

Give Shaw 14 weeks, 6 suspended plus a hefty fine...because we need him for finals. (All for half of a $20 bet)

Each to their own, Ed.

18 months ago a goal umpire places bets at a pub on the AFL Grand Final (which he is not officiating in) and is banned for the entire 2010 season.

Now Shaw bets on a game in which he is directly involved and cops 8 weeks?

Double standards.

Umpires are different. Look at the problems soccer have had in Europe with umpires and you understand why the AFL has to be so, so, so forceful with any sort of umpire gambling.

That said, betting on a match you are involved in should mean the end of your season in its entirety and a massive fine. That's the only way players are going to learn. Corruption breeds corruption.

IS there a spell check on this website?

Tell me that Shaw and Maxwell didn't collaborate. What a joke.

Heath Shaw should consider himself lucky that he is allowed to play football in the AFL again.

Agree entirely.

Notwithstanding he will be back for the finals, he is still missing alot of football even though he can train. Its clear that Shaw learned absolutely nothing from his escapade with Didak. Amazing.

Maxwell was plain dumb for a Captain to mention team plans. Incredible.Embarrassing. Rightly fined.

Eddie would be furious. They need to keep a lid on things for another 10 to 12 weeks. They are in the box seat for the flag. They dont want to blow it.

First Malthouse, now this what next. Pendlebury injured....

What a magnificently bad 24 hours for the Filth.....demon_cool.gif

May it continue unabated. A Shaw suspended for 8 weeks is music to my ears.

I remember Ray Shaw back in the 70's....evil little creature...

Sleep well tonight Eddie....demon_laugh.gif

Have to say - knowing Ray Shaw personally and a finer man you would never ever meet

He would be very upset at his son's silly action

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
