This week we will not see Melbourne's most inexperieced side. Its most inexperienced side of the year beat the Bummers by 33 points, with a tally of 1138 games between them.

Not quite. My records indicate a tad less experienced team in Round 8 vs North at Etihad.

Round 11 against the Bombers was scary though. It was this round that we fielded a less experienced team than GCS. Demons 1,138 games vs GCS's 1,287

I am loving how we are blooding new players and creating a merit based system.

A very welcome change from the old ND "play the old favorites" days.

And none of those debuting this year have really done much wrong - and Nicholson, Howe, and Tapscott prior to injury have all really fitted firmly into our best 22 at present.

I took the number at the bottom of the table (which has the post game tally) and subtracted 22 to get the pre-game tally. So I get 1,298 against North.

Hopefully, we can increase our winning streak to 3 tonight and I'm confident we can. Our improvement over the past 4 weeks has come from our young players. Since our bad run of three losses against in a row we have welcomed back McKenzie, Scully, Trengove, Jamar, Garland and I think Gysberts as well. We have introduced Evans, Howe, Gawn, Nicholson and Blease tonight, you can add Strauss to that list with only 2 games to his name last year. Watts is getting better, and very soon we will get Tapscott back.

Everyone talks about the young talent on our list, tonight we will see all our first round draft picks from 2008/9 play in the same team. The only early pick we are missing is Tapscott and he should be back in Darwin. In fact the only first round draft pick we are missing tonight from our last 5 drafts is Cook and Grimes.

I had removed 227 games of Greeny's as well as Harvey's just to see where this placed the remainder of the players experience wise, as these two players kind of skew the numbers at the top end a little. I forgot to add them back when saving the spreadsheet. A slight oversight

I wouldn't subtract 22 games however, as that will take you back 1 round. In other words you'll be subtracting 22 games incorrectly as the numbers supplied by footywire and your source match and are games played up to that current round (ie., games played post Round 7 in readiness for comparing them in their Round 8 match up).

So the correct figures up to but not including Round 8 against North are as shown in the totals on your site. 1,320 Demons vs 1,779 North. Not that 22 games either way matters much lol.

I decided to actually do some analysis for myself for once rather than waiting for someone else to do it.

All stats count the number of matches played PRIOR to the match.

Melbourne's total matches played this week will be 1252. Gold Coast's last week as 1180. Gold Coast's lowest total of the season was against Melbourne with a paltry 802 games. Anyone want to hazard a guess as to why we flogged 'em? Brown and Ablett out makes a huge impact on their total, not to mention their ability as a side.

Interesting to note that last week against Richmond, we actually took in the more experienced side, however this week's change (Macdonald out, Blease in) would've tipped us under.

This week we will not see Melbourne's most inexperieced side. Its most inexperienced side of the year beat the Bummers by 33 points, with a tally of 1138 games between them. How delightful, couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.

Our opposition's experience tally this week is 2156, which is AFTER they lose two 100+ gamers from their side and replace them with kids. This is a seriously experienced side, and we're every chance to severely embarrass them.

After initially thinking he would be I have a feeling that Blease will not be the sub. He did not play last week due to no Casey game so to play him for maybe 1 quarter and then potentially miss again next week when we have the bye would be strange.

Expect Morton to play on Murphy, McKenzie to Cooney and Jurrah to have his best game of the year.

I don't quite follow your logic, but I'm pretty sure subtracting the 22 is the right thing to do. Subtracting 22 games from each total is just subtracting 1 game per player. It doesn't take you back to round 1, it just cancels out the fact that the stat has the post game matches played figure, not the pre-game match. For example, right at this exact moment in time (before the game), Colin Garland has played 49 games, but when I look at that site after it publishes the stats, it will say 50 there. Therefore, I subtract the 1 game to get the number back to the pre-match figure. Do this for each of the 22 players = subtracting 22 from the total.

Confusing everyone including myself lol.

Correct method when looking at past rounds for number of games played. Sorry, i'm looking at my own stats where i've used latest data for an upcoming round so i never have to do what you've done and look back at earlier rounds in most cases.

However, don't do this for rounds you're looking at which have yet to be played. Example, when looking at the game against the dogs, just use the latest data from the previous round (in this case you would have looked at Rnd 14 stats, post match, against Richmond). If you subtract 22 games you're then taking it back a round to round 13 data which is relevant for Richmond round but not the Doggies.

Hence the total number of games played vs the Doggies this round (inclusive of Rnd 14 but excluding Rnd 15) is 1,320 rather than your figure of 1,298 (ie., less 22 games). Hope this makes sense.

At home having a few frothies watching the delayed telecast after an 8.15 finish at work....not lookin good.....

Arghh. Too hard for tonite. I don't think people look at age on a field anyway. Number of games to me is the one that counts. I'd have to adjust every field in the spreadsheet to take out the word "year" and "month" lol. As well as round the months up and down to arrive at the averages. Can be done but i'll give it a miss this time High if you don't mind.
