Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I admire your ability to last the distance, you have been over this like a lampshade.

I would (and) have lost interest in it long ago.

He stays or goes...meh

Trengove is on triple m at 5.30pm as well. Poor kid he's had to speak more about the issue than Tom has!!!

Makes it easier to admire him

I admire them both too ... question is have they enough fight in the belly to go again?

Time will tell if they need too.

I would be meh too.

But I just cannot get past the two things I mentioned earlier.

That is why I am here, and will continue to be.

And you really don't have to admire it...

Just don't pity it...

And while we are talking about Women's tennis - who won Wimbledon? I have taken zero interest in it but usually catch wind of which woman won...

Not a clue.

Kvitova beat Sharapova, she showed a bit of form in oz earlier this year, think she knocked out stosur at the oz open, seeded around 8th at Wimbledon, would've got good odds

Nothing from memory. Just a hunch. Since then, events have confirmed my intuition. So?

So according to you Tom was lying when he said at his presser:

He rejected claims he had been offered $5 million over five years to join Greater Western Sydney

OR

His management would hold off on contract talks until his current two-year deal ends at the end of this season.

Because according to you he engaged in contract talks in the following 6 weeks and committed to GWS.

Call it what you want ... Question is do you have enough left in the tank to go again.

Both "sides" have laid all their cards on the table. Very interesting times ahead, patience is a virtue.

i have to laugh

media cretin #1 "scully is going"

demonland: "that's just unsubstantiated rumour that doesn't mean anything!"

media cretin #2 "Scully is staying"

demonland: "see! this is proof! I told you!"

Wrong.

No, that's not right. All the panic merchants were saying that he'd already signed and that he was lying when he said he hadn't. That's what I (and many others) took issue with, and it's why I'm now carrying a smug look on my face. It's been shown to be completely unsubstantiated with facts and quotes from relevant parties as opposed to he-said-she-saids, thereby being proven to be false beyond any shadow of a doubt.

Of course there's still the possibility he will sign with GWS. It's not truly over until he signs one way or the other, but at least people might (hopefully) ease up a bit on the character assassination now.

Right.

If the offers are roughly correct then I would like to think that the gap between what we offer and GWS' offer can be made up by the following:

1) Some left-of-centre Judd-Visy type deal/arrangement or alternatively arrangements that will help him money-wise after footy.

2) The "intangible" of being a one-club player with an established traditional club, possibly being a club great and the feeling you would get from achieving success with such a traditional club with loyal fans rather than playing with a soulless club like GWS who have no history and whose success will bring joy to few people.

3) Playing footy on the MCG in front of big crowds against traditional rivals as opposed to playing in West Sydney in front of 5,000 people.

4) Staying in Melbourne, with family and friends, as opposed to moving interstate.

If the money is a $2m difference over five years, being $1m after tax, then I would think that we could 'bridge the gap' between our offer and the GWS offer through the above means.

I don't see it as an insurmountable difference at all.

I would consider it a very low act to leave a club that has invested so much in you purely for that difference in money (especially considering the non-monetary incentives in staying at Melbourne and the possible post-career monetary incentives in staying loyal to Melbourne).

Agree.

When I agreed with Curry & Beer that he will go I was implying that I didn't think he would be able to resist the big coin that would eventually be thrust under his nose.

That is saying neither of the things you seem to be charging me with.

Events since then appear to be bearing out my misgivings, wouldn't you say?

You have your view. I have mine. Get over it.

"Gone" was the word you agreed with, not "will go ... when the big coin [that would] eventually be thrust under his nose".

And no I wouldn't say that about "Events since then" at all.

Indeed you do have your view - it's that Tom lied.

You cant discount your line of thinking .... Question is .... Is it all about the money?

You dont think he will ie "refuse the coin".... which is quite within your rights. However, many have put compelling arguments to stay in Melbourne.

We will now find out.

Now you're being silly. You know full well someone can say "I reckon he's gone" with an implied future tense.

Go ahead, twist my words around to paint me as the bad guy all you want. It makes no difference to me.

No, I have said that he agreed to go to GWS at some point after that press conference. Big difference.

That presser was in early March. A crapload has gone down since then, as evidenced by the aftershocks we are witnessing in the media at the moment.

You're still inferring Tom's a liar. Tom couldn't have been clearer when he said on March 4, "There has been no approach, absolutely not. And I definitely haven't spoken to GWS and most certainly haven't signed anything, certainly not. If I did have an approach the club would be the first to know. I have been transparent with the club."

Pay particular note to his last two sentences. Up until last week Scully's management have been denying an approach. You're accusing Tom of lying by saying a "crapload has gone on since then". Other than GWS this week formally tabling an offer at the request of Scully's management nothing has happened. And now that a formal approach has been made Scully is upholding his remarks from March 4 and Melbourne have been made aware.

Here we go again. I've addressed this exact same charge from Rpfc and Old55 and see no need to re-hash what I've already said. Read my earlier posts.

I agree JCB, getting very tedious.

You have accused Scully of being a liar. Furthermore, going by your recent posts, you are sticking by that.

Tweed Pig has also looked at another part of Scully's press conference to add more evidence that you are calling Scully a liar.

You have made no attempt to respond.

Good luck with that.

If it wasn’t for differing opinions internet forums would be boring as bat s#it!! I like the fact that Range Rover isn’t afraid to have a different opinion to the majority on here. Far too many for my liking who just stroke each other’s ego's by agreeing on every issue which is discussed (rpfc/nasher/Artie etc etc). We all love the MFC but the sun doesnt shine out of it's arse!

If you and the Tweed Pig and whoever else want to believe that what you read in the paper is an exact indication of what's going on, that's your prerogative.

Nowhere have I accused Tom Scully of being a liar.

The last time we lost a player like this it was 1965 & we never recovered..I know the careers are at different points, but there are similarities here between Tom & RDB.

Thoughts People....

I think there's also parallels with losing Gerard Healy. Clearly that was a comprehensive net loss for the club. Long before draft picks as compensation though.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
