Collingwood is a very young side aswell. You don't see them talking about patience. They just wanna win.

I for one am continually excited and then massively frustrated and then thrilled and then disappointed and its not easy being red and blue at the moment.

Have yet to meet anyone who can answer that question in such a way as to escape further censure and suspect the author of that old chestnut drew up the terms of reference for this post. (Congratulations !!! )

i think Bailey has made a rod for his own back. If we had'nt shown quite as much as we did in patches last year the expectations would have been less and he would have been sitting ok to keep his job /sarcasm

i like deam bailey and I admire him for taking the path of developing youth etc. Problem is that alot of other clubs are going down the same path, with less fanied draft picks and are showing better signs than us?!

Failing Malthouse or Roos then a judgment call will need to be made based on the following criteria:

- 2011 performance

- On-going development of younger players

- Success of recent draftees

- Evaluation of gameplan effectiveness

- His strategic plans for 2012 - 2014

on a slightly seperate note; Although unlikely to happen as the hawks are travelling nicely at the moment but I would like to see Al Clarkson coach the Dees.

Yep, as they say, the grass is ALWAYS greener! We all wanted Sheedy... how do we all feel about him now? Now everyone wants another veteran in Malthouse,,, do you really think he is going to do better than Bailey? Do you really think he could have taken Collingwood to the position they enjoy now with our playing list and budget - how long do you think it will take him to get us to that position? Based on the fact that Malthouse is a seasoned premiership winning coach and Bailey came from virtually nothing, you will all be baying for Malhouse's blood if we aren't in the top 4 by the end of season 2012.

I suppose the treatment meted out on these forums is the price Bailey must pay for putting development ahead of results... never mind the fact that like our playing list, he could be good for a premiership in 2013 as well.

Roos ... we would need one hell of a "Coach Demolition" tin shake.

Consistency is my biggest knock on Bailey, I don't know what team is going to show up every week. The responsibility of getting a team prepared from week to week ultimately falls on the coach. I think he needs to be harder on players, adding emphasis on keeping your spot in the 22 or getting your spot. No passengers and nobody exempt from being dropped.

Forget about Bailey's first 2 years - we know they were development years and we went through the pain we had to go through. At the beginning of last year we expected improvement and we got it so he ticks off that year. This year we needed to see more improvement and what have we got:

Round 1 - Draw with the Swan after beating them by 73 points in round 17 2010 (8 months earlier) - fail

Round 2 - 45 point loss to Hawthorn after a 21 point loss in round 20 2010 - fail

Round 3 - 11 pont win against Brisbane after a 10 point win in round 18 2010 at the Gabba - probably break even given Brown not playing.

Round 4 - Versus Gold Coast - doesn't count.

Round 6 - 54 point loss to West Coast after a 29 point loss in round 8 2010. Last years game at MCG so will be generous and call this even.

Round 7 - 96 point win against Adelaide against a 16 point win at the MCG in round 3 2010 - improved.

Round 8 - 41 point loss against North against a 26 point loss in round 6 at Etihad in 2010 - fail.

Round 9 - 20 point loss to St. Kilda against a 35 point loss in round 14 in 2010 - improved.

Round 10 - 47 point loss to Carlton against a 41 point loss in round 11 2010 - fail.

Round 11 - 33 point win against Essendon against a 19 point loss in round 15 2010 - improved.

Round 12 - 88 point loss to Collingwood against a draw in round 12 in 2010 - fail

Whilst injuries and other factors are not taken into account it is still hard to justify a Bailey reappointment at this stage given the score card. The next 3 weeks are all winnable and if we don't win 2 of those 3 I think he will be a dead man walking.

Interesting analysis...although you might need to factor in that the opposition teams we played last year will have improved and changed from the teams we face this year. Comparison of our team and their obvious developmental improvements against opposing team that are stagnant would probably look as you have stated in your post above.

When you factor in the the variables such as the level of improvement of each team, consider changes to the line ups via trades, retirements and injuries, change in coaching staff and the different levels of fitness and rehabilitation services available at each club. (Just to name a few) , then it would be interesting to see how that effects your analysis.

I can't agree hangon007. Surely in 2011 a club that has freed itself of debt, has a record number of members and increased it's bottom line by $6 million via the acquisition of the Bentleigh club can afford to spend upwards of $1 millions for a coach, if that's what it takes.

You can & should level that criticism against Any AFL Coach thats ever dared to Coach a young AFL Team of Kids... inconsistency has been the trademark of young AFL players since Adam was young & Goodes.
