Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Elimination of the Apologists

I'm sick of the club putting up injury lists.

Depressing facts and nothing but bloody excuses for the apologists to grab hold of and try and explain away everything that is wrong with our club. Everything.

Hell, I wish they'd take the numbers off the backs of the players so we couldn't identify them. No, lets go further, lets dye their hair, put false bottoms on their shoes to change their heights, put a bit of padding here and there and even paint their skin a different color. That would stuff the apologists too because they couldn't tell one player from another.

And while we're at it what about player information?? Let's forget things like providing ages, heights, weights, draft pick position and experience. Let's get to the stage that when a Melbourne team run out on the ground it's just 18 bodies (yeh, lets forget names) playing 18 bodies. No excuses then for not competing, not chasing, missing kicks and missing tackles. No ability to make comparisons with other teams to compare abilities, experiences or games played. We'd just be Melbourne and we could judge the team based purely on performance with no distracting "facts".

Think of the advantages. No delistings, no need for a recruiting department because all the players would be the same and all those little pesky "facts" can be eliminated. And if things aren't going well (winning every game) all we have to do is change the coach. Yeh, it'd be all his fault. He's not motivating the players, he's not got a game plan, he's not playing them in the right position, his training methods aren't right, he may not even speak the right language. And we just keep changing him until we do.

And we shouldn't know who he is. That way personal feeling won't come into it. No debatable judgements about his personality would be required. No interpretation of media conferences (because we'd ban those as well) and no concerns about his experience, age or religious preferences.

Can't you see the advantages?? No apologists. No nasty divisions. No diversity of opinions. No need to try and think about footy. Just a simple equation. Win and the coach stays and lose and he goes.

We would be a united supporter base. No torch bearers wanting to burn apologists at the stake. No apologists wondering if the men with hoods were coming in the evening to burn them at the stake. No big dick competitions. We'd all be as one and Demonland would be a happy and loving space.

I think it's time for this club to get serious and consider the supporters. Hell, we pay our subs and we are entitled!!!

LOL... I kinda like all that.

Theres a certainly reality about it in that essentially thats all it is..a team of 18 bods vs another team of 18bods.

Something goes awry and any number of particular , player orientated excuses bubbles to the surface.

Invariably its just the team played cr@p.

Now there are varying reasons this might happen. But it is after all a team game.

The old adage still applies, you can only play the team thats out there competing agsint you; and that works both ways.

Im tired of al lthe excuses too...and we wont be alone.

edit:

Id qualify it as 18 bods plus others v 18 bods+others ;)

FFS, drop it. On the one hand, there's a difference between brave and stupid, and on the other, when - for all his sins - has Bennell not backed into a pack this season when he could have?

More mindless rhetoric.

I won't drop it until we see players of his ilk walk off the field a bit bruised and battered, having earned the right to wear a red and blue guernsey.

Dermie was right, some of our players empty the ice baths before the game knowing they won't need it.

It might be rhetoric, but it's true rhetoric.

I will tell you what you need to do, if you can beg, borrow or steal a change room pass after the game, wait around quite a while, then you will see the players start to ice up parts that are sore, coz they have to, they have been told by the medical staff.....I went once and Col Sylvia ended up looking like he belonged in the frozen food section.....Bennell is getting there, they used to say the same thing about Varcoe, I take it you always crash into packs when you play do you?

You have a wonderful way of missing the point, intentionally or otherwise, in order to make an argument simpler for yourself to understand, Hannabal.

Sometimes you do it by just not replying to a post at all - which at least gives me feedback on the strength of my own argument. If you choose to respond, the thread is still on the front page ...

If anyone wants to cast aspersions on any player who takes the football field at this level and call them soft, they need their heads read. That doesn't necessarily mean that some are not as hard as others but this is a tough game and I'm in awe of anyone who walks out onto a footy field to play in the AFL.

Regarding the opening post, I don't mind satire but I think it's going over the top to denigrate others' opinions. I'd hate to see these forums become groupthink tanks but if you really want your way, why don't we all agree to ditch our names and avatars and call ourselves by numbers and then we can all act and think like robots?

This has nothing to do with what I think or what I look at.

A specific claim was made about Bennell not backing into packs. I (for one) am still waiting for specific instances to support that specific allegation. If none are forthcoming, then the original (and false) claim should be withdrawn by the poster.

The straw man in action.

If you're going to engage in a chest beating and then write poorly thought out, logically inconsistent tripe then you deserve to be called on it. Running away and pretending it doesn't exist does not give credibility to either yourself or your argument.

If you want to tell everyone how big your dick is, then at some point someone is going to pull your pants down for all to see.

Mate if you want to split hairs go ahead. I'll rephrase ... when was the last time you saw him take the most direct route into the heat of a contest.

"Ahh gotcha!!" Spare me. He's soft and anyone who denies it has their head buried in the snow.

It doesn't mean he can't changed or is finished. He's got talent no doubt about it. But that, as we all know, will never ever be enough.

How many times have you been on the bash Bennell theme. Lift your own game.

Don't know, A couple of time maybe? Look through my posts. I applaud effort and excellence and criticize performances lacking those qualities. Pretty simple.

What I don't do is stand and clap like an automaton everything and everyone within the MFC. I know some here just can't stand that but too bad.

OK, so here we go again ... where (for example in this thread) is anyone standing and applauding everything and everyone at the MFC?

Same old spurious BS from you. You have no arguments to support your position(s) - so you just make them up.

Talk about irony, the OP denigrates the denigrators, who you then denigrate and get denigrated in return. It's a veritible orgy of denigration.

Depends I suppose how you define "denigrate" I suppose but these discussions will always generate some degree of disagreement between individuals, it's all about maintaining some degree of class, decorum and humour. The OP does it well in my opinion.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
