Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

We'll take him, whatever happens. It's not just about getting the best players, it's about getting someone who has red and blue blood, the son of an ex-captain.

It's about "culture", that word that's thrown around here increasingly often these days.

I have absolutely no doubt that we will take him, it's just a matter of WHEN we will take him. I hope we are able to let him drop to our 2nd round pick, but I think it's unlikely. Either way, we'll have the equivalent to 3 first rounders which puts us in a good position to build a strong young midfield.

What a load of bollocks. It's all about getting the best player.

The fact that someone's old man played in the jumper is a bonus.

If we are forced to use pick 3 and he is only worth pick 10-16, we don't take him...it's as simple as that.

But if he is worth 3-5, then pay what he is worth.

Aren't we getting a bit ahead of ourselves here? For starters who knows where we will finish? Seems to me that when this bloke has a lack of material, he simply makes some up.

There are and will be numerous scenarios to consider and that will be played out over the draft table.

For instance if we finish 3rd last, we'll have a few on our list who it will be time to move on, who would have some currency to the fledgling sides and a whole range of deals could come into play. Not only with GWS but the likes of GGS and others. In adidition let's also not forget that we also need to bring free agency into the total picture.

One way of viewing it might be that young Viney, who seems to be more than handy from all reports, would simply be a straight replacement for someone else who did SFA for us and we still have two compensation picks. To me that would be the worst case scenario. Some worst case scenario!

On the other hand, if we were to bring into the mix, some trades of reasonably talented, yet inconsistent players on our list who could be of value to other ( maybe younger clubs) many different scenarios could arise.

I think we will have a good hand at draft time with a nice hedge as a starting point.

If Viney is not worth a pick 3 and GWS/GC bid pick 1 or 2 let them take him. Then he can come back home after his first two years contract is up.

If the club does take him with pick 3 and he is only rated top10-20 then I think I would absolutely lose it. The club needs to be smart and ruthless about this and can't afford to stuff up another draft.

How about we/Melbourne play dirty and smart for a change and use the system to our advantage? It's been rumoured for years that West Coast/Fremantle hide players in lower competitions or tell them to underperform and get them as a bargain (rumoured to be the case with Jack Darling and Nate Fyfe). We have a perfect opportunity here with Jack Viney... guarantee that we will draft him (he already has this in contract, plus his dad is our head of recruitment) and tell him to shut up shop NOW for the rest of season 2012.

HE KNOWS he is getting picked by us, and WE KNOW he is pick 5-10 draft quality... why don't we just tell him to underperform for the next 6mths, and just let him slip out of first round calculations? That way no club will want to risk picking him first round, and he can slide down to our second or third pick.

Behind closed doors at AAMI Park he can still train with an AFL club, and accelerate his development... but all the outside world will see is a kid who has dropped off in his final season of Under 18s. Jack Fitzpatrick was rated top-10 in his first year of Under 18s, and we saw how far he dropped with a poor final Under 18s season.

Jack Viney is one of those rare father-son situations where WE hold all the aces (despite what the media would like to report)... we can effectively manipulate the draft by telling him to hold back, and letting him slide to a pick that we want to take him at (without the fear that another club can swoop in and take him at pick #20 if we have pick #21). If any other club wants to risk a first round pick... then it is their risk because we can simply say 'Nah, we don't want him... he is yours'. I really don't care if this is seen as cheating the system... this is a business and we should use EVERY possible avenue to gain an advantage over the opposition. I want premierships, not the respect of the wider football community!

Lots of conjecture here that's for sure.

Let me tell you this.

The club has worked with Jack for 2 years.

They know what they are getting.

They firmly believe he is a number 1 pick in any year.

Pundits and press will propose they know where he is rated.

This is unique in that the club knows more than anyone on this given he is not an unknown.

He will be picked with the clubs first pick. Simple as that.

He will play round 1 next yr for the Dees.

The only way the club will get him second round is if they finish last or do a deal that lands them all available picks above them in round 1 of the draft.

Thinking about the situation i cant see GWS risking so much that will barely gain them anything

It would make absolutely no sense to do this and it is just media beat-up. Not sure why this story is not including anything about GC possibly doing the same, or either GWS or GC forcing Essendon to use there first pick on Daniher either.

The only possible gain that GWS could get outa this is that there will be 1 extra player left in the pool come there 2nd round pick.

Not worth losing a first pick in a draft on

Slow news day

I'd be up for calling Sheedy's bluff.

It's the week after the Grand Final. Discussion turning to Viney. Someone sticks a mic in front of Neeld. We have pick 3.

Neeld says 'if GWS are prepared to give up Whitfield or Vlastuin, I'd happily take them off their hands for pick 3."

Watch the media go bananas.

If, JV, wanted to,,, he'd could do a lot worse than starting off in the tough surrounds in the West of Sydney, under Sheeds, for 2 years... the contract (ours), well, may be an Issue.

What if JV simply refused to play for GWS? what options can occur then? Like what Luke Ball did to the MFC

Would JV end up in the rookie draft? or just have to miss a year of AFL experience?

Well, I can see how the GWS stitched us up re skunk, & lied all of 18 months to loved ones & all, about in this place...

If they want to play hard ball & take JV ahead of more highly rated kids in this coming draft, designed to stitch us Up yet again,,, then maybe JV could go there & then come home later. Leaving us with posibly a Whitfield or someone?

# Edit: Getting back would be very difficult, so It wouldn't happen, but we need to be sure that the bidding for Jack, is an Honest appraisal from the likes of GWS...

Is this the sort of stunning amazing Hun content that is supposed to be driving us to subscribe so we can get the great content behind the paywall?

Nah, Stevens just spends a lot of time trawling supporter sites like demonland and playing on people's insecurities

He didn't say anything that hasn't been said here so why are we discussing his story?

So, are you telling us they know just as much of say Whitfield, as they do of Viney ?

Because if they "firmly believe he is the no.1 of any year" they'll need to know as much of other candidates as they do of JV.

Jack will play some games in the first half of the season but watch for the dreaded OP to set in during the second half of the season. Some rumours of drinking and womanising (whilst still underage) could also surface.

I am super confident that if we finish 16-18, we will get him in the second round. The bottom 3 teams will also be given a comp pick by the AFL after the first round.

He's already dealing with OP, if you read back a few months ago on these boards.

Someone smarter than me suggested we could arrange trade deals (to be executed in the trade period that follows the F/S) that are favourable to GWS and GC on the basis that they don't nominate Jack.

Win-win!

As if we can't manufacture a way to worry GWS or GC out of it. Say we start talking about contract details that state we are under no obligation to pick Viney (even if they are fanciful) or start talking up the kids tipped to go 1 and 2.

I am going to be mighty [censored] if we end up with pick 3 and have to use it on Viney when we could have used pick 20something. When are we going to get smart/ruthless? Why don't we get an advantage of F/S when a good one comes our way? I know the rules changed but Geelong picked up Ablett with a pick in the 30s. Well what about us? Where is our free ride?!

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
