Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

So if he can't play (only train and be around the club)why waste a highish pick or player to get him. He will be able to be around the club running around with his u18 side anyway....

We could throw Bate and Dunn at them for him and it saves us a first round draft pick at the end of 2012 (which he probably will cost us regardless of father-son right now)

Hence we could actually trade for one of those picks under the guise of taking Viney, then pinch another gun like O'Meara (seeing as we could still secure Viney F/S).

I imagine if we operated unde the premise of taking Viney and not weakening the following draft pool, GWS would trade a pick to us more cheaply (Bate, Dunn - who are both under contract for 2012, so can't be taken by GWS as an uncontracted player until next year).

Possibly.

We have to nominate to GWS who we're taking with it. Only issue with that is O'Meara has said he wants to stay in WA.

Do we though?

I don't think we do.

If we did then we'd be trading for the rights to a player, not for a pick in a 'mini-draft'.

The process is still vague and inconclusive.

Although, immediately after posting I realised a flaw in that plan, assuming it is a pick you trade for, not the player.

The players would presumably have to make themselves available for the mini-draft prior to the trading of picks in trade week.

Presumably there'd also be penalties for players nominating for the mini-draft then not going to that team, just as with the National Draft.

So for that ploy to work, you'd need to have Jack Viney nominate, making himself vulnerable to poaching, and then pray to god another team with a similar pick doesn't take him.

In fact, even if we were to aim to take him, we'd have to be sure another team wouldn't have a pick before us, and wouldn't then snaffle him as he was exposed by the system.

Much safer to just wait it out & secure him via the F/S route.

That's the thing. The whole situation is so vague. It's probably going to work best on certain players in my opinion. Guys who want to stay in their state for example, such as O'Meara, or guys like Viney who will simply be a F/S anyway. Remember, GWS are almost certainly going to have the #1 pick for the 2013 Draft as well (although I'm not sure whether the priority pick rule comes back in for 2013, and if so Gold Coast could be eligible?) and will thus be lining up the top talent for THAT draft as well. They'll be looking at those that they can genuinely get, rather than those (such as Viney) who won't be going their way.

I'm anticipating Freo trading with GWS for one of those picks for O'Meara.

Easy win to Metro. Jack had just the 12 possessions and kicked 1.2.

A reasonable effort but the star was Jonathon Patton the big key forward who kicked 5.2 and took some strong marks.

If we lose you know who, we should make an all out effort for the first pick in the draft as compensation which would only be fair.

Did Chad Wingard get injured?

I've seen him talked about as one of the top 3 picks in the draft, but he only had 3 touches.

From what I read yesterday the mini draft works by the AFL sending out a list of kids that are eligible who then nominate whether or not they want the chance to go into this mioni draft. Once the list is finalised the clubs are given the list. The picks are obviously 1,2,3,4 which is then up to us to sort out a deal with GWS to get one of those picks and it is up to them to decide what pick we get for our offer. Not all four picks have to be used this year as long as all four are gone by the end of the same period next year

Any idea what his Time-on-Ground was Jack?

Maybe he didn't play much time

They just spoke to Peter Rhode (PAFC) on FiveAA and were talking about Chad... Our man Jack tackled him in the first qtr and he never recovered... Apparently Jack tackled him, pack developed, all got up except Chad.

Yes he did. Happened before quarter time - seemed concussed. Didn't return. When Jack hits them, they do not get up. Viney will make the All Australian Under 18 team IMO.

So he will miss 3 weeks after every game for tackling :)

Roost it reported hearing the same information that Tom was looking at possibly moving to a Melbourne based Club. I would rather see him go to GWS than to Collingwood.

Hmmmn, & where did the Scully to GWS rumour start, I seem to have forgotten who started it.

I've tweeted Emma Quayle to find out if there's a result on Jack Viney's tribunal appearance (result to be posted when available).

All I can say is that these Prince Alfred College boys had a big weekend.

• Jack Trengove one of our best v Bulldogs but his tackle on Ward created controversy;

• Luke Tapscott one of Casey's best v Werribee and KO's their captain in a clash of heads (accidental) a minute into the game. Gets up rubbing his head but goes on to play a fine game;

• Jack Viney one of Vic Metro's best v SA and KO's their captain as a result of a tackle. Fronts tribunal; and

• Luke Saville wins junior boys title at Wimbledon. Nobody hurt physically at all.

Not bad.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
