Article Here.

Could be a real boost to see him in action at Casey next year ahead of being drafted. Especially if he manages to force his way into the senior side.

Hang on - he's a gun but give him a bit of time He's still only in Year 11

He'll be doing VCE next year - and Carey will be pretty keen to use him to help win a premiership

If any of you watched his father play he has the same running style it could have been Todd in that photo.

Cant remember exactly how it was said, but on Footy Classified last night they mentioned Jack and said that he was as absolute ripper and nearly harder than his old man already.

They called him a 'brick wall with eyes'!!!!

I pity those that stand in his way ............. actually...I dont lol

I wonder what number Jack will get... ? An early number or late?

If one can beleive what is said here and on other fora, #12 may well be available. Or, hopefully, #10.

Viney playing VFL footy next season should be a given, considering Swallow and Gold Coast got the approval in similar circumstances last year. Hopefully it's not another "GC/GWS: yes, other clubs: no" thing.

31 maybe?

Haha what a contrast in players that would be, Morton to Viney. I'd fall off my chair at least once a game thinking that Morton was playing instead of Jack.

He's an absolute nutter and I love it, just what we want in our club. A real [censored]-stirrer, who saw him in the Metro v country grand final? Was always the first in to all the fights, swinging people around and ripping guernseys. Also got reported twice though which may be a bit of a worry.

Just got back from watching Jack run around with Oakleigh in the TAC today. I thought he played an outstanding game today. For those who haven't seen Jack play as yet, think of Todd with a much better left foot. Of the players going around today, his playing style seems to remind me a lot of Sam Mitchell.

If Tapscott is referred to as The Bull, I think young Jack will be known as The Tank is years to come.

Not so much from his size (whilst he's still quite a solid teen), it is his attack on the footy and willingness to have a contest at every opportunity that is most pleasing to watch. Whilst Jack's not a quick player (like his old man), he never seems far away from the contest. He comes across as a very 'smart' footballer who reads the play incredibly well and seems to move to where the ball/contest will occur, rather than worrying about his opponent. I thought his attack on the footy today was top notch. A number of times today whilst he was 'resting' in the forward line he backed straight back into the contest with no second thought.

This may have been covered somewhere but I cant see it.

What are the rules in relation to what pick we must use for Viney in 2012?

For example if we trade away our first round draft picks for players then are we able to snare him with our 2nd round draft pick? Or if he is nominated by other clubs as a first rounder and we trade that pick does that mean we would no longer be allowed to get him?

I am also thinking if Scully does leave and we get extra draft picks that would most likely be held to next year what impact this would have.

F/S comes before trade so we can't do what you're saying - we have to use our next available pick after the best pick bid for him.

Not exactly. I believe how it works:

- Club nominates player as F/S

- Clubs much then nominate what pick they would use on him if he were to be available

- Club must then use their next available pick on him

Not exactly sure how it works if there are two F/S picks in the one year, though - although Billy Stretch is the year after isn't he?

Isn't that what old55 said?

If there's 2 in the same year, it works exactly the same - once the 1st round pick is used, the 2nd round pick would become the next available.

Obviously it depends on what other teams bid - you might get away with using lesser picks.

See Liberatore and Wallis in 2010 draft.

Compo picks would be exempt (fair assumption, I think).

And Stretch will be the year after.

It's more the exact working - you can have two clubs have vastly different values for a player. I don't know whether it averages out over 'round' or whether it is done off exact pick number.

Exact pick number.

If we were able to pick Viney this year, and another team offered pick 10, we'd need to use pick 12.

If the best offered by another team was pick 13, we'd be able to use our 2nd round pick (roughly pick 40).

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
