Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We must continue to look at the facts

The most common KPI or tool used by clubs is games played. I thought I would compare North and us using this stat from Saturdays teams.

It proves to me that we are at least one year behind them in our development, especially with key position players.Despite our frustration we are being asked to be patient because of this.

Cheers

This argument/excuse/reason about our development/games player/average age is certainly valid, but it is the manner in which we are losing that is dissapointing. We lost 13 games last year, and I don't think any of those losses were as poor as the three losses we've had this year.

Too much analysis can lead to paralysis.

Get the Bloody ball and kick it forward to a leading option. If he dosnt mark it, then have rovers front and centre to pick the crumbs, handball it to a free teamate in space, provide a shephard and then kick it forward to a leading option.

If we dont have the ball, stick like glue to your opponent, contest hard, and tackle like Trengove.

Footy is pretty simple really.

I am sick of all the crap about potential, premiership window and young players. These comments come from people who are afraid of dominating the contest. From losers.

I am sick of all the talk, blah blah blah blah.

I understand your point and I think it is valid to a degree, however those stats are skewed by Boomers 308 games. If you take him out of the equation then it is:

Melbourne - Average Games: 60.00

North - Average Games: 66.86

But why should you take Boomer out of the analysis? He played and was one of their best which is almost the point of the comparison...

Agree with this. All the other stats are correct and when discussed amongst like minded football followers is understood. But it goes back to how competetive we are and the signs here have not been good since pre-season.

And I'll take Green out of our equation. Snap.

Stats are like Shakira's hips, they don't lie.

So let me get this straight, you're saying that because we have a bunch of young players bringing the ave games played stat down around 60, Brad Green has an EXCUSE for a very poor season, Dean Bailey has an EXCUSE for being behind other coaches, Aaron Davey has an EXCUSE for under-performing, MOST players have an EXCUSE for not running or showing any movement, and our whole team has an EXCUSE for not showing any heart?

Our inexperience might be a contributing factor to our win/loss record, but it is NOT a reason for our lack of unity, aggression, or heart so far this year.

This is correct.

To be honest, the kids are travelling better than I thought they would. But they are not ready to shoulder the load, and Green, Davey et al. are tacitly asking them to and it is hurting.

Really just more excuses. We have a younger list we have less games blah blah. It doesn;t mean we should give up on games. Have our captain walk around and have no impact on the game. This stats didn't matter that we got 6 goals up and is not the reason we got smashed from qtr time. They are excuses, just like losing the two players. Good sides like Hawthorn thrive on it, there first gamer came on and made a valuable impact.

You can either play footy or you can't.

I'm thinking (actually kinda hoping) Green may be carrying an injury. In the 3 games I've been to this year I've seen long periods of time where he doesn't make it out of the centre square while the ball travels end to end. It's the stereotype of our non-moving football this year. Bennell used to be great at providing us with movement without the ball but even he's seemed to have lost that this year.

Melbourne are playing like a side that have been repeatedly told that they are young and a few years away from their premiership.

That may be, as he was in career best form last year.

But even playing out of the square, where an injured player can play, he seems out of sorts - arguing with the umpires, losing his feet, etc.

What about the kids in other teams who keep turning in competitive performances we dont have all the kids

What we have is an extremely poor attitude in the club coming mainly from senior players

I wouldnt be surprised if good young players leave the club because of the poor attitude and culture in the club

I admit I don't really fully understand the "press" but "stick like glue to your opponent" apparently isn't the modern game. Heath Shaw admitted on the weekend (or on Friday night?) that Malthouse criticised him on Friday for staying with a player instead of being in the right position on the ground. I don't think "footy is pretty simple really" at all.

Completely agree, and I am starting to harp on this...

As for the next sentence - I would like to challenge those kids to change the club themselves, and have the leadership group be 23 and under from next year.

Yeah, none of our older guys have alot in the way of on-field leadership qualities. I'm of the opinion that criticizing them for not being leaders is not the way to go, for every 30-year old leader there is another 30 year-old who just plays the game. I do think Greeny got thrown in the deep end. Our leaders will come through.

And Port and Adelaide over there.

There are posters on here who must drink or something because they do not remember how awful we were in patches last year.

We kicked 7 goals at home against the eventual wooden spooners...

It's because of this attitude that has seen Bailey criticised for a fair while now. He understands the attitude that the older players have, and the culture that they were a part of, and as a result, he has thinned them out as much as he can. Robbo would be a great example of a senior player that you wouldn't want around a club full of kids in my opinion, and Bruce's onfield attitude is/was far from inspiring.

I would like to think that with Stynes spending more time with the FD, he will be able to see if their are any cancers remaining (I sincerley don't mean to use that word in the same sentence as Jim). These cancer's are what causes disunity within the playing group and need to be removed ASAP.

It does irritate me when I watch Richmond, their young players, while ability-wise I don't think are better than ours, are enjoing their footy so much and as a result are competitive for most of the game. It makes me proud when I see our young guys kick goals, and the senior blokes get around them for that extra lift, sadly it doens't happen anywhere near enough.

You want facts.. heres one:

Last Premiership 1964...thats fact.

Makeup and potency of teams , ages effects etc etc.. that s conjecture.. As all are qualified by this subjective association or another

A fact is whether a game is won or lost.. the how...is not a fact...it might be a reason.. but reasons are not facts.

I cant say for a fact that we're playing like sh!t but I can observe a similarity.\ to the qualities.

Facts are irrefutable absolutes.

refer again line 2

This fact needs to change.

Trouble is, last year we were mostly pretty good, but awful in patches - usually against teams that did their homework against us.

This year we're mostly pretty awful, but good in patches. That's the difference.

Did anyone else notice that twice when Jurrah kicked goals no MFC players rushed to congratulate him. He had to approach a couple of players himself for a high five. I just thought at the time this looked odd and they weren't playing for each other. And this was when we were doing well.

Maybe I was reading too much into it?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
