Jetta or Joel Mac for Jack? I'm thinking either would be a risk, because of their hard tackling... :P

MacDonald for mine, he was named in Casey's best last week where as Jetta wasn't and he's also more of a like for like replacement for Grimes' role, where as Bennell (already in the team) can be used anywhere with Maric & Wonna potentially getting more of a run on the ball in at different stages through rotation.

Jetta for mine. We need another stoppage player. Others can cover the half back role.

MacDonald, we need more backs this week. Grimes gone, and I would assume Bartram running with Harvey as per usual.

Jetta for his work in & around stoppages.

No question.

Confirmed. Jetta in. GO DEES! Show these muppets how unified we are!

Yep. And big Max Gawn is now named as an emergency...

Does this mean Stef is going in under some doubt?

Good opportunity for Jetta to stamp his name in the midfield, he looks good at Casey so hopefully he can be more consistent for the Dee's. Bennell sub hopefully....

I doubt it or they would have named Gawn as an emergency last night.

All it means IMO is that they needed to name another emergency and it's good encouragement for Gawn to be named.

This bit is certainly right.

I hope Martin and Juice can stand up as it would be unfair to throw Gawn in when he really has just gone from second ruck with plenty of rest to taking on the no1 ruck duties in Casey seconds.

A senior player would be given continuity after a major injury (e.g Petterd look very rusty in early games this year) so given he is just starting his first full season let him have plenty of time trying to handly just getting the tank to be a number 1 ruck.

it will be very interesting to track his progress now Spencer is out.

I felt we would have been better equipped for a Jamar injury about mid year so timing is not great.

Guys I struggle with Bennell however he can play forward or back so I suppose that gives us something.

He has had a number of games now and IMO needs to show more if he is to get a regular spot in the 22.

He has IMO three weeks to show he is more than a bit player.

In three weeks time we will have Trengove back and hopefully Mckenzie with Scully shortly after that.

If he has not shown significant improvement then we should up grade one of the rookies and give them a chance.

So I will try not to complain about him for three weeks.

Some players are going to have to step up massively over the next 4-6 weeks while we slowly get some of our team back. Big opportunity for the likes of Jetta and Bennell who have both been thereabouts in our best 25, also a big load for Stef to bare until the Red Russian is back.

Some interesting times ahead.

Old Dee, I know it is unfair, illogucal, etc etc to compare players. but in relation to Bennell, two words Travis Varcoe, two years ago and now......be patient

3 weeks to render judgement as a player in 2011?

His career?

Jeez...

We have given Bate and Dunn 7 years. With the more celebrated latter having a most average career.

I am willing to give the talented kids time. They will need it, and we will be rewarded for our patience.

Petterd looked rusty early?

Was sub in one and reasonable in the other before being dominant last week. They are his only appearances in 2011.

I am glad you see things I don't.

My comment is that he has 3 weeks where it is doubtfull we have anyone to take his place.

After that we hopefully will have a number of players pushing for a spot.

On past and current form would you play him in preference to Trengove, Mckenzie or Scully?

Add in Blease and Strauss maybe in a few weeks time.

I look forward to seeing something.

I have never seen him play a game where I would put him in the top 10 of our players.

Bate and Dunn had plenty of games in the earlier years where they were inside the top 10.

Just does not do anything for me.

Happy to be wrong.

I live for the day "satyricon".

My memory is that Varcoe had the odd good game.

I have never seen Bennell play above average.

Now I have not seen every game he has played so I may have missed his "good" game.

It is only my opinion, right or wrong.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
