Scully Out for Another ... now ... back to Six Weeks

GWS are strong on Martin, with his ethnicity, tough way about him and his tatts. The thinking is the locals would really relate to him. They've dangfled the carrott. If the Tiges were likely to lose Martin with AFL sanction, they would love to pickup Scully (a dyed in wool Tiges supporter) from the roundabout. GWS were into Viney in a big way and were looking at ways to get him, or ontrade him for another Deal with the Crows at one stage.

If that did happen, (Martin > Scully) then what would be the Dees payout?

Martin is contracted until the end of 2013 - happened late last year - takes him out the GWS window of opportunity. GWS can dangle anything they like - can only happen with Richmonds blessing - so the question remains - do you think that Richmond would trade out Martin for Scully ? I don't.

I also put on the record that it really mean squat who you barrack for growing up as a kid - The Ox was in the Hawthorn cheersquad and Judd was mad about the Demons. Means little

I did see him outside of one of the membership tents on my way in. Could quite possibly just have been in the Presidents club function or in the coaches box learning different elements due to his injury...

or maybe he just went for a pizz when you looked?

by the 'tone' of the article it sounds as if Scully is.... Injured and needs further time to heal his troubled knee. OMG, who would have thought a knee injury would take so long to heal? This 'mysterious' knee injury he had surgery on pre draft is not a sign he is off to GWS.

PS if you read it backwards it tells you exactly when the world is going to end.. the Mayans were correct in their prediction.

anything at all, like sitting in the stands with his teammates watching us play, for example. That would be a nice indication that he is interested in being part of the club. I saw Jordie at the ground the other day, didn't see Tom there

yeah and because Scully is not siting where you can se him, it assures him of his departure of from the MFC.. wow, you should follow our comedy show with a conspiracy program...

I think channel 10 should pick up our shows for this coming winter.

so you have had confirmation from EVERY crowd member from each game? if your answer is no then your argument is no longer valid. Why dont you send the club an email asking whether he was in the crowd and if not where was he... oh yeah and where was the rest of the side not playing on the day or with Casey?? was robbie campbell there, troy davis maybe.. wait a minute, there all going to GWS based on your conspiracy theory.

sorry is Robbie Campbell potentially the player of the next generation, holding out on contract negotiations with the club? NO HE'S NOT, SO WHY SAY THAT? Why do people 'argue' like this around here? It makes zero sense. Who the hell cares about Robbie Campbell, we are tlaking about Tom Scully. Very annoying.

equally as dense is suggesting I have to speak to every crowd member in order to make a comment. Seriously, think that statement through. I would have thought a poster would have said by now that they saw at whatever game sitting with the group, but apparently not.

my point remains that the kid seems absent from the club right now and nobody has said shizen to convince me otherwise. all we have is another memo from the club buying some more time with a picture of him the last (and perhaps final) time he wore red and blue

Because, what type of player Scully is likely to become has zero relevance when considering your inability to spot him in the crowd at an MFC match, nor in turn does that have any bearing on his likelihood to leave for GWS.

How do you not understand this??!?

it is as i quote "equally as dense is in suggesting" Scully is "absent from the club right now". Just because you or other fools do not see Scully around, it does not mean he is not around.

And your reliance on 'posters' to post fact over their usual "I have it from a reliable contact in the mix" it a void comment to make, you are clutching at anything at the moment. For example, Scully has signed with GWS, only for Scully to come out and make a statement saying he is yet to sign nor has he been approached (not to say his manager has probably been approached), or a poster posting that Scully is off to GWS when it was in Scullys tone (but maybe it wasnt Scully because he is never at the club).

99.9% of posters comments are chinese whispers.

Not a single person on here can definitely say he is going to be here in 2011 or at GWS.

contract negotiations stalled +

various media types making claims about him +

highly unusual injury keeping him out +

apparent/possible absense from club activity

do you really think there is nothing going on? what's the sand look like down there?

PS Does anyone have a clue what this business trip is all about, seems a bit odd to me

Scully's interview he said neither himself, his management or his parents had been approached by GWS. He also said that if he was approached he would immediately forward the information onto the MFC. So he is either telling the truth or he is going to set himself up to be regarded as a blatant liar!

Yes, I noticed that last night, when i googled his info. He signed a contract after GWS were chasing hard.

That still doesn't quash the speculation that Scully hasn't seemed happy being drafted by Melbourne, not in the first pictures after the draft, the rumours that e,d swares by, and the fact that he's not playing still and looks OK at training The fact that Martin is now off market doesn't diminish the talk about Tom. And I'd say nothing will other than a signature on a MFC contract.

I know one thing, is that if Tom leaves, there will be compensation to us. And the other thing I know is this obsessive young man, Is an out and out Tiger at heart.

that's not true

if later he signs with GWS he can always say that AT THE TIME HE WAS ASKED he hadn't YET been approached

Mike Sheahan certainly seemed to think he was full of S at that presser

He can say that but people's perception will be different. Also he will have to notify the club at some stage of an "approach". And regarding his injury, easily confirmed by club doctors I would imagine

I like to try and see positives (sometimes)

Should this injury make GWS not want Scully, then all good, he stays with us.

If Scully ends up injured for most of the season and then signs with GWS, at least we haven't had to watch him develop into a star during the year, making watching him leave hurt even more.

I know its not much to hang my hat on, but at least its something!

The boys look very sharp in there suits i think!!! Relax a little C & B.

this is a good thing. However, I still don't get what exactly the point is of their trip, why are they taking our best prospects on a tour to see how the media works? Part of our non-finacial/networking/future prospects/mentoring idea to try and keep players who are offered more elsewhere?

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
