I only heard this on Seven News earlier, so might not be 100% but apparently Pendlebury has signed with the Maggies and Thomas is likely to do so soon. Obviously, this mean that all three Magpie targets have declined to move, which is great to see really. It will/may have implications on the Scully saga too, as it might mean more money is thrown at him (assuming he is still a target). It is also concerning that players of this calibre can come out and signal their intent to stay whilst we hear nothing.

I know another Scully thread is probably unwanted, but given the recent developments re: Pendlebury and Swan, it is worth pondering again.

Thoughts?

P.S - many people who claimed to have "had it on good word" that Scully will sign soon (saying within the next month well over a month ago) are awfully quiet these days. I noted many of these such claims on this forum and bigfooty.

He's not signed til he's signed. Although I think the arguments for him staying are right up there after his pre-season press conference personally.

I'm fine with waiting til the end of the season and hope that neither Carro or Hutchie get their grimy paws on any tidbit of info to blow the issue up.

Scrap this before it gets any more legs is my suggestion. We have had enough issues this week at the club. Enough said, I believe.

Putting your head in the sand won't make the issue go away. I am happy for it to be merged, but if supporters want to discuss this issue, they should be able to. If you want no part in that discussion, then do not click on the thread.

Seriously, think about it, would you throw three or four years of development away to play in a side that is going to be crap. Who good are the GSW going to have. You only have to look at Ablett (who is a seasoned player) and the Gold coast to realise it would be a monumental stuff up.

I agree with you mate. I was just posing the question. My thoughts are that Pendlebury and Thomas staying only highlight how few players will want to make that choice to leave. Of course, both of these players are at a powerful club at its prime with plenty of money. Melbourne, though, is an up and coming club (hopefully) that should appeal to a young player.

There was not enough money left in the kitty for those two,. GWS already got their man at a premium.

Convinced his gone? Fair enough, a possibility. I am not sure why you are not allowed to express your opinion about this matter. Sure, I can understand that starting multiple threads on the same issue is a problem (forgive me for doing so again), but the others are locked so there is little choice.

I was quite upset at the prospect of losing him, and still am. But with free agency coming in soon, there is no choice but to get used of this type of thing and at least we get a draft pick in return if he does leave. This will not be the case in most other instances.

Here we go again...

Seems to be two options (defined by either side of the argument): either have your head in the sand, and up your own arse.

I am sure there is room for sensible discussion with your head somewhere in between your own arse and the sand :)

Edit: if everybody is going to get their panties in a knot over this topic, just close the thread.

For what it is worth:

Pendlebury-closes-on-signing with Scully bit

Brilliant Melbourne second-year star Tom Scully is another ace signing who was originally on GWS radars but the classy left-footer is now expected to stay with his current club and sign a new Demons deal.

Won't make it go away, but have you heard of the Hindenburg? Puttting out a fire is best done early.

OK - Scully hasn't signed, but let's go the pragmatic line. A club, starting off, needs big bodied, well known players to kick start their birth. Scully has ONE season under his belt and if GWS throw bucketloads of money at him, their FD should be sacked. That probably works both ways as I think the MFC shouldn't make a massive offer either.

Having said that, here's my two cent's worth - no bigger target/s for GWS than Adam Goodes and Brendan Goddard. BIG signings, wait and see.

Heaven help you if Scully stays at Melbourne.

You are going to cop more hammering than a rusty nail.

That website is the same one that had the club in talks with Scully when we weren't. It's nothing more than heresay until his name is on the contract next to Jimmy's

Hence the "for what it is worth" bit.

Nothin' means nothin' without the ink, but if it is going to be a subject of discussion then everything may as well go on the table.

I guess Roost It is pointing out that for all the credibility that site has, you may as well just link to a post of some guy or gal on Demonland.

Yeah and that's cool. It sort of rules out posting a link to any paper, radio station or anything on the TV too these days.

Yeah but it's just a rumour ROTA. You are an ostrich with your head in the sand, because that's just a rumour and just because Scully's management have come out and categorically said that he hasn't signed a deal doesn't mean anythink because they are probs tellin lies. He is gone. Eddie would know.

Fair dinkum, sometimes I want to break the internet.

One thing that is for certain, GWS will not get with in 10 goals of any team next year. This club is going to be a bigger flop than the Brisbane Bears. With in 10 years the AFL will relocate this club to Tasmania and it will go done as the biggest mistake by the AFL.

Pendlebury and Thomas staying will only make it harder to pick up quality players. Scully WILL stay at Melbourne, unless GWS offer him 6 million for his first season!!!

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
