Good to see Gysberts doing so well. 11 disposals to H/T plus a goal.

Guys, we're playing Brisbane, not Collingwood. I don't understand why Davey's tagger isn't catching hell from other Melbourne players -- like what Collingwood did to Jones that time last year. Everyone seems to just watch. Just a distinct lack of team support.

Worst on Ground so far (3 votes is worst):

1. Colin Garland. Not hard enough at the football. Goes in with one hand too often.

2. Jack Watts. I know he's young, but for the amount of time he's on the ground, I can count the good things he's done this year on one hand - which incidentally is the number of hands he goes in with.

3. Lynden Dunn. Layed about 4 or 5 head-high tackles, and is apparently deaf. Slow, no run and is generally not damaging in any way.

Best on Ground so far:

1. James Frawley. Anyone who says this guy does not give us run from defence is an idiot. Wins the ball in the backline, runs 15 metres and kicks in 30 - 50 metres himself on a consistent basis. Just awesome.

2. Mark Jamar. Destroying them in the ruck, and winning the ball at gound level. Disposal around the ground is miles better than just a couple of years ago, and if it weren't for his poor kicking at goal, he'd be easily BOG.

3. Liam Jurrah. When this guy is interested, he is absolutely awesome. Has probably contributed to 75% of our goals this game.

Has anyone noticed how much slower Brad Green is this year. He seems to have bulked up and it has not worked for him at all, IMO.

Remember that percentage is not likely to matter for us this year, given the draw we had, so as long as we win this game, I'll be satisfied. Particularly since we'll need to play well for the next half to do so.

Steph Martin again doing some nice things .

Really coming along now with abit of confidence .

I don't think Watts has been too bad. He's been presenting up the ground and giving an option kicking out of the backline.

Me neither .

Would love a coupla goals from him tho' .

Anyone notice how much holding the Lions are doing? Also cheap shots behind play. Like the fighting at the half time Siren, it means the Lions are cracking.

Go Dees, put em away!

I don't think a single one of Watts' tackles have actually stuck though. He's definitely been trying, which I love, but it almost always just results in him just twisting a finger or two up in the opponent's jumper. Althoug I put him as worst on ground, his effort has been good, and so I'm impressed with that. He's just had not much impact on the game at all.

Watts equal highest tackles with 4, but yep, not great from these two with the likes of Petterd and, dare I say it, Newton running round in the twos. I thought competition for places was supposed to bring out the best in players - not so far.

Good ins with Wonna and Gysberts, both adding a bit. But got to do something to help out Davey, or find a different role for him, he's getting bustled and tagged out of it.

Going to be interesting second half, which Melbourne are we going to see??

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
