Just confirmed on the wonderful DEMONWIKI site what i suspected......our last win in round 1 was in 2005 ! I'll be taking the advice of Corp. Jones in "Dad's Army" if we lose: "DONT PANIC" !

Correct. Scores : Melb 15.13 103 Ess 8.9.57 Beamer B.O.G. in his debut for us Ooze 4 goals

Should rectify this record on Sunday. Sydney have some major injuries (Malcheski, Kennelly, Bradshaw plus others) and we play the G' well. Need to get up on Sunday.

We should know in the first 5 minutes whether the team is "on". I find it amazing how many times this scenario sets the tone for the entire afternoon.

All players should be pumped, no excuses whatsoever. There will be a big Crowd this sunday of Demons...i dreamt it 2 nights ago.

My footy dreams turn out correct more than not!!!!

We are now in the business of breaking those records as we march upwards.

No more AAMI hoodoo.

We will own North this year.

A win at the cattery. (I was there for the last win; one of the best days of my life.)

And my personal favourite bundling the Dawks out of the finals (hopefully this year, if not next year)

Yes i remember that so well from 20 years ago. Beating Hawthorn twice in 2 weeks-Who else got even close to that achievement. The Filth owe us a bucketload for that years flag. They were shite scared of the Dawks back then.

Indeed it is even worse.

We haven't won a game in the first two rounds since 2005.

Terrible record. Need to beat Sydney to change it. Certainly cannot see us beating Hawks, so if we lose to Sydney, record is likely to remain until at least 2012.

Sydney have a lot of injuries but they are hurting after our thrashing last year. They will be fired up...

Absolutely we are going to have to play very well to beat the Swanettes.

They made week 2 of the finals regardless of our thrashing. We better be on. It's at the 'G so we must make it count.

Hopefully Bruce and Dennis will once again get more than a little excited in the commentary box!!

Happens too often for mine - guessing they've been put to sleep listening to B) DB's pre-match

Oh Yeah!!! Very memorable , "WYL",(though it was round 22 and the first final, not the Round 1 this thread's about).

Remember Greg Healy taking that Gutsy mark running back into Langford??!! Courage personified!

I sort of wish we'd lost, now, since I'm sure Hawthorn would have knocked Collingwood off(as they might have to this year).

Our first round record is a bit worrying. Every year we go in "underdone" after a poor record in NAB Cup(or equivalent) and practice matches. Despite not bgoing flat out, we're crippled with injuries.(perhaps that's why?!)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
