T U if this is how you really feel, i am suprised, you must know a thing or 2 about Marketing coupled with supply and demand. Contract negotiations would be being sorted ON BOTH SIDES as we now speak.

Phew. Thanks WYL. That's re-assuring.

I've read every post in this thread.

I don't know whether I deserve a medal or should be institutionalized.

I'm leaning to the latter.

Well i wasn't sure if you were taking the pi$$ or not!!

Just Checking...the Feeding Frenzy in here is getting ridiculous.. B)

People believe you to the point where they come on a forum and question why so many posters would supply bogus information that they believed was true.

Possible, but not the case here.

OK.

Why hasn't Scully held a press conference to douse the rumours?

Surely the fact that every rumour on the radio/TV/newspapers says that Scully has signed means he has signed?

Who wouldn't take that much money?

Mark Murphy didn't. Neither did Kurt Tippett. And probably dozens of other offers have been made by GC and GWS and not taken up.

Can anyone tell us how much money has been offered to Tom by MFC? I haven't heard one rumour that says 'GWS has offered xxx, Melbourne have offered yyy'.

Ok, Ok, to stop my constant shaking and the bitter taste I've decided to put my money on the fanboys.

You'd better be right and Scully stays, if not I'll come over and rip yer bloody arms orf (apologies to AJ)

"And i will too...."

Maybe Norman Gunston could interview Tom Scully to get the real story.... B)

TU, rpfc & KS - you've just written the complete FAQ on the Scully situation. If I didn't believe in people's right to an opinion - no matter how unfounded and/or stupid - I'd sticky that and just refer any Tom Scully related threads to that. Well done.

Let's assume for the moment Tom Scully goes. He will go at a ridiculous price for a teenager. We will get two first round draft picks in return at a time when our top 8 rivals wont get any. Further, Scully staying would require us to pay him a stupid salary which would only encourage our much more talented youngsters than him to make similar demands.

At the moment, in terms of value to the teams overall I don't think he is even in our top ten: I'd put Green, Jurrah, Watts, Petterd, Grimes, Sylvia, jamar, davey, Maloney, Frawley all ahead of him. Furthermore, we have a surplus of elite mid fielders - it is not where our weakness is. I'd rather let him go, let him play for a sub standard team which can't and won't hurt us, and we get a further march on our rivals by getting two elite picks which will not be available to them.

I'm also very much aware the club these days are very concerned about the club culture. Giving in to GWS blackmail is not culturally where we want to be.

I say the sooner we can get an answer out of him and his management the sooner we will be able to plan productively for the future, but to allow an albett situation to develop is not where we want to be.

Who agrees?

Good post, might bring some sanity back to this debate. Will comment further.

Lets just leave him alone, he's got enough pressure already, furthermore it will only be a nuisance to not have him. I mean we have him, we will keep him.

also say scully were to see this, it will only encourage him to change contracts.

i was going to say DELETE THREAD but he actually makes a fine point

either way there are some pros and cons, the idea of him Bogarting our cap and someone like Watts getting poached later doesn't sit well. We need a Watts or a Frawley more than Scully

Posted

I agree with a couple of first round picks plus Viney next year Im sure we would be fine. Now go and tell that to the thousands of little kids with 31 on their back.

Posted

Yep we want him to play outstanding football this year and for the next 10 years at least. If he goes at the end of this year- goodbye we will replace him internally and gain great compensation- that is if the AFL doesn't step in the meantime.

Posted

no gaurantee of 2 picks at all..or at least not 2 first round. One G Ablett was an established GF player.. Scully is mainly potential atm !!

What debate? It's mindless speculation.

I stopped reading when you said he wasn't in our top 10 and then had Maloney who as far as I know doesn't even play AFL football. Remember it's people like yourself that are fuelling an "ablett like situation"(I know I read the whole post!}

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
